I've always felt that Selena is more famous on United States than here in Mexico, Americans make such a big deal about her and here in Mexico you can't even compare her to Juanga, Vicente Fernández, José José, these three really represent the Mexican culture and Selena rather than representing the Mexican culture, she represent the "American Dream" that isn't really relatable to most of us Mexicans
but selena is very important to us chicanos, because she learned to speak spanish when she was a little older and was very successful in usa and latin america. she is just a really big inspiration to us mexican americans and even her dad has a very good point: "we are too american for mexico, and too mexican for america." viva selena :((( (and don't forget, her music has a mix of cumbia and tejano, so she is representing hispanic texas culture, not straight up mexican.)
