I got invited to the Fox US Open of MTB best whip, and figured now was the perfect time to try my hand at being a professional downhill racer. Some of the best riders from all around the world came to KIllington Mountain Bike Park to send themselves down a gnarly course. I figured this would be a perfect first downhill race for me.

Being underbiked is sometimes fun, but this was very impressive! That was a brutal slam but great riding also!

Dude, that was pretty epic, you did not finish but you are a legend with your positive view. I raced BMX, also did some XC before I switched to DH and now in my mid 50s race enduro just for fun as long as you race you always win. you got a one more Sub from this vid.

@@cosmicbackwoods I saw a couple of the with NSP logos. Despite getting some hate for being sticklers, certified patrollers are really good at mountain extract. Saw a group of them practice pulling sleds through the upper part of National at Stowe.

Holy crap Jay, i thought you'd broken yourself for sure on the tree. So great to see you having a crack at anything. I'm in Paris for the weekend. Went to a skate spot and there was a flea market there with tons of people. So I got a stunt scooter for $10 to cruise around on instead of walking everywhere, which is tons of fun.
Found another spot, but no one on bmx, which was a little disappointing, but hey.

The fact that you were bombing lines and getting swaggy on a trail bike in a track designed for bikes with at least like 30mm more travel is insane. This event should be a yearly thing you do and every year you come in with 10mm more travel each time 😂😂😂.

i recently subscribed coz i remember from Skills with Phil channel. First video that I watched was with your new bike and with the way you were riding i thought you could do some racing, Then I saw this vid. That other bike suits better for this kind of trail or even a proper DH bike and no doubt you'll be smashing these trails . Looking forward to more videos...including future race events....

Cool to see the Mallen boys doing well. I used to see them every weekend out at Canyons as groms.
To me that kind of riding doesn’t look fun at all but it is impressive to watch the top riders go down a course like that at full speed. More power to them and stay safe.

Going that hard on a 130 bike is actually insane. You must have been holding on for dear life. If you had a full-blown DH/Enduro bike, you would actually place pretty well.
Once the course started to break down I was definitely holding on for dear life, hahaha. After qualifying it was way too rough. Definitely want to try again with a bit more suspension :)

You shjould come do Mid South or Unbound bike races. They may or may not be endurance gravel races. But it's like a week of partying before the race!

I always watch this sort of thing and think it's the closest thing to rallying on two wheels. Do you fully memorise the full course with the runs you get before or are there certain bits you are dealing with on the fly each time?
It really is. I did my best to memorize the layout, but it’s hard to remember every line you have to take and rocks/roots/stumps to dodge.
With so many people on the course it changes A LOT every single run (as I experienced in my finals run 😂)
