In my 56 years, and 40 years as a guitar and piano player, this may well be the greatest performance I have ever seen. The genuineness of it, the SOUND, puts a tear in my eye Right from the heart. God bless Mr. Dylan
It is oddly moving to me as well. Bob's harmonica playing is so gentle and expressive and the band is so tight. It sounds like one guy is playing every instrument.
My favourite part of watching Bob is he doesn’t do the songs the same way twice. Love how the band members keep a close eye on what he is doing as he can pick a path and they need to watch every head nod or pointing at a member.
Most of what I wanted to say is already here. You don't need to leap about and play a million notes a second to be a musical genius. I play this every few days to remind me that there is still beauty in this horrible world.
I find this one always leaves me with mixed emotions, the five songs I go to so I feel relaxed are "My Back Pages", "If Not For You", "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Love Minus Zero-No Limit" and "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands". I don't know why people remember the negative more than the positive but maybe that's the futility of human nature.
My father was a lifelong admirer and appreciator of Dylan. He got a particular kick out of the harmonica playing and used to play air-harmonica (to my amusement and embarassment as a teen-ager) He never saw this era of brilliantly creative live versions so i try to transmit them to his spirit.
Yes. Watch who the great ones respect. Eric Clapton is another musician who gets the most out of each note, in fact his nick-name is Slow Hand. I don't think Clapton and Dylan ever worked together but both were good friends with George Harrison. I used to get into to arguments with a guitarist who claimed Dylan wasn't that good of a musician. He liked the intense music but Dylan is first of all a song writer and he wants you to concentrate on the lyrics. Dylan used to drive Joan Baez nuts because on stage, he'd make up new lyrics to his songs. Jerry Garcia, who Dylan deeply respected, and the Grateful Dead would never do a concert twice the same way. It is as if they never are satisfied to rest upon glories past and are always striving to find the better note, the better riff, the better phrase, and the better emotional timbre. Sometimes, it doesn't work. The mellower Dylan works for "It Ain't Me Babe" but not for "It's Like a Rolling Stone" or "Positively 4th Street". Dylan is demanding as an artist but he is open minded when others covers his songs, except for one time I know of. He didn't like Guns 'n' Roses interpretation of 'Knocking On Heaven's Door". I like it, yet prefer the original one which was in the movie "Pat Garret and Billy the Kid". The slow motion images of the sheriff dying still sticks in my mind and will forever. I'm going to stop and listen to all versions of this song, simple or complex it's dramatics are internal conflict of the song, She wasn't bad yet something was missing and maybe, just maybe, there isn't any answer no matter how long we think about it. Dylan is good with the abstract.
I must watch this video once a month for the last two years. If anyone knows the guitar tab on this??? I got the main chords down but am interested in his lead and also the backing guitars fills. Thanks!
Can anybody give the date and venue for this performance. I now think that this LIVE 27 Oct 1999, Champaign Illinois which appears in a slightly longer version on CZcams
Elston Gunn is Dylan's alter ego. Maybe they are going to put out an album of this material and decided to shut this channel down. I am glad someone captured this one to repost. It is one of my favorites and that is difficult to say as there is so much great material from The Song and Dance Man.
There was that one Visions of Johanna performance from 2005 or 07 from Atlantic City I think. That was the best thing I had ever heard and it got removed
At first I didn't like it as good as the old but when I was taken farther along, I may like it better. Musically it's better, but the original had more bite. When Dylan and I were younger, we were angry young men, with age we've mellowed some. My girlfriend still knows how to press my buttons though.
An unequalled 90 seconds - flaws me everytime. Do you know a better 90 seconds? Dylan making an effort on this occasion :) The never ending tour x x I imagine retrospective bullshitters will flood the world when the tour ends. U never met him. U dont know him. U just making money from a fallen Angel. He hates you. He hates everything you stand for. Let him rest, and celebrities - don't pretend for a moment you knew him and give retrospective accounts that he cant defend. . This world is a shit hole. He knew it.
he was one of those "who cares - this is what you get" and he played with soul (sold as it was lol) and he just didn't care. you don't like the music? no one is stopping you from leaving! Unapologetic vibes

Just when you thought you had heard everything, he comes out with this whopper.

The enigma of Bob, he can reinterpret his own material better than most
This video is a gem
Wow...Many forget what a talented guitar player Dylan is...
He has truly reached the status of "a song and dance man"
The last minute of this video is like watching a young child enjoying his new toy. Forever young . . .
It simply left me speechless
This brings tears to my eyes, every single time.
Keep returning to this gloriousness. His guitar part alone is worth a prize, not to mention the inventive harmonica improvisation.
I thought i told you not to mention the harmonica improvisation 🤭
I can listen to that harmonica solo till the end of time!!!
It takes a brilliant musician to make so much out of just a few harmonica notes.
You are so absolutely correct,,,stay safe

Dollar a day’s worth.
Plus “ There’s nothing in here moving. And anyway I’m not alone “ nobody else could tell you it’s over better than that.

Look at Bob man, straight fucking vibin
Well said
He can do what he wants....never will be another.Great guitar work.
Deep respect to this soul ,a living legend.
Absolutely unreal
Just the best. A cosmic treasure.
Well ... that is wonderful. THANKS!
La migliore versione 😊😊
Just watched it again!
What a Song and Dance Man😎
Fantastic performance from the master craftsman !
one word: Master
Happy birthday Bob Dylan from 🇬🇧✌🏾
I wish he would still play guitar like this
He has arthritis in his fingers.
Never saw him so animated. Wow.
This the first version I heard of the song. Never got to like the original after
Our boys still got it,,ox
Bobby was in a good mood that night.
Wow!
Yes it is, babe. It still is. It always is.
It’s his nice way of saying no.
@@oo88oo That wasn't very nice " nothing in here moving and anyway I'm not alone" what a master of words
This is just so cool.
Great versión of this beatifull song
Dylan was the first to enter the saloon and the last to leave....
he did a brilliant version in 1986..westwood 1 radio...
the best
Another beautiful ballad by Bob -- this one dates from '64 !
Wonder where & when this rendition was done? '90s? Too bad it's fuzzy.
......... great
This is my favorite and been watching it for years. Does anyone know what concert this was shot at?
If the Rolling Stones worship Dylan one is dealing with greatness..
Still listening...
7:58 is class
On top form - I'm hearing a lot of "Friend of the Devil" in the harp
Yep... Still here!!!
🙏🏼
I'd love to know who the guitarist on his right is, he's great and so much part of this epic version
How does this only have 33 likes?
It’s a different version of the master video (which went bye-bye?)
It’s dogwank
@@truthwillprevail.7213 Nah the musical arrangement is amazing
@@DarthOpinion Dylan’s voice detracts heavily from any semblance of a compelling musical arrangement.
Probably because his version with Joan Baez is the best..
I must watch this video once a month for the last two years. If anyone knows the guitar tab on this??? I got the main chords down but am interested in his lead and also the backing guitars fills. Thanks!
Dylan keeps on reinventing himself like a desert mirage..
Does anyone know the date and venue of this performance?
March 18, Benny Lukens birthday.
Note to self black and white.
Top post #
What video plug ins have you used?
This could be from the Champaign Ill show in Fall '99. I was 7th row. If not, then it's during the same tour somewhere else.
We will never know Dylan...like a Russian Doll in a black box inside a concrete safe buried ten feet under..
Can anybody give the date and venue for this performance. I now think that this LIVE 27 Oct 1999, Champaign Illinois which appears in a slightly longer version on CZcams
Double WOW!!
I prefer our harp in its fullness
What concert is this?
The guy in the audience at 7:46 sound like he’s enjoying himself lol
I told you not to mention the inventive....
Whatever happened to Mr Gunn who posted such great clips, sadly missed here.

@@davidwordsworth5584 What a shame Elston Gunn didn't form a band with Dr Winston O'boogie.
Elastin Gunn is a fake who stole other people’s clips and took credit as well as trolling true fans who called him out for it on Facebook.

I do likey own cognitive reference too
It won't happen again

So what happened in the last five minutes?
Something is happening here and you don't know what it is, do you Mr Luken?
I like the 1994 Woodstock version better.
6:57...eh...who or what is rising?
When did Marathi manus started listening Dylan. Hahahaha
Jesus Christ!
