Follow Si, Matt, Monika, Myke and Stu as they makle their annual pilgrimage to Richmond for the annual 'Draw Off'. The river is low, and expectations are high as a surprise hoard is uncovered...
Another superb vid, Si-Finds. You are completely right, re the efficacy of the offerings. It was once explained to me (long story) that it was no different from throwing a coin in a wishing well and the money then going to a charitable cause as far as the original offerer was concerned. It’s the act of making the offering that is crucial. Keep up the great work
Mark Thomas Hi there!👋🏻 I came into the conversation late.... but I think disagree with you. I’ve often as a Christian tossed a few coins into a river praying for God to bring them to someone who needs them. I’ve not really thought about someone who’s a Mudlarker by trade... but I trust God enough to let Him to figure out where and with who the coins go to. My husband and I give at church ...a substantial bit actually...we also donate to homeless shelters, St. Judes, food banks, homeless shelters Christmas Tree Angels👼🏼 🎄 Wounded Warriors, Veteran’s Hospitals, Wounded Veterans, battered women and children, sick babies.....and yes, I toss a couple of coins in fountains and off boats or banks or bridges and fountains. we have purchased and had a small lock engraved and fastened it on a bridge in Paris.. (yes I know it will be cut off) done in love!! We love all kinds and colors of people, Dogs AND cats all or most animals.. I’m not fond of rats, spiders, ticks or fleas. I believe we must give to others and it’s good for us too. I believe it’s my choice to toss coins into water and make a wish....not because I think it’s magical but because it’s FUN!! And when life is at a dark point it helps me feel a bit better to remember the joy I felt while tossing those coins whether alone or I find best with small children and/or my hubby. I pray you all are able to find some peace or joy somehow recently. May God bless you and those you love today and and everyday to come😘 If today is a particularly bad day may He give you and yours the strength you need to make it through it. Please accept my condolences if it’s a particularly awful day...xx❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️
The 10 coin is first decimal coin ... Australia. First minted in 1966. The Australian pirates of that period regularly pillaged the Thames from their base in Tasmania.
I don’t know why I never got into your videos before but the more I watch them the more I like you. You’re such a good guy and doing it for all the right reasons. Gives me faith in people! 👍🍾💖 You will find loads of offerings there it’s due to boat tours along the river, my original part of town. Not sure the ashes are are going back to the Ganges though. 🤦♀️
I enjoyed this video Si. Interesting to see the different landscape there. So different to my stomping ground! Lovely to see Monika too. See you soonest. Nic
Great finds, Si, and your friend, too!!! That horde, wow! Btw, the figured piece you found is Krishna, Hanuman on his shoulder, and the sacred cow. Krishna was a cowherd that's why the other tokens show him walking with the cow (but that's not why the cow is considered sacred, oddly enough). The elephant on the other tokens represents Ganesh. Looking forward to your next larkabout!
In the case of the missing elephant, Holmes and Watson had occasion to spend a penny, in the literal sense, as a tip to a small boy standing by the river side, "gawd bless you sir, but the fiend went that-a-way" he said pointing avidly to the newly-built Hindu temple. Holmes told Watson to hold his ground at that very spot and to load his newly-bought .338 Adams revolver whilst he himself returned to the shrine the recovered bag of gold offerings, in replacement of the lead counterfeits. Watson, his fingers shaking in expectation of the violent encounter yet to come fumbled in his leather-gloved fingers and a single .338 round fell to the hard ground, skidding noisily into depths of the icy river, "Damn and blast my butter fingers!" ejected by Watson were the words that alerted the fiend to Watson's presence by the river side.
Hey . Great video. I metal detect, mudlark and magnet fish here in N.C. USA. My name is Dirt Digging Granny. I dig with my young grandson. I hope to have my own channel one day soon. Keep the great videos coming. I love watching them!
I thought the offerings pieces and the one you found would make a good windchime - add some beads and a topper and I can hear them tinkling in the breeze !
George tge 3rd. My wife’s family land in Kentucky has him as the name before theirs. They came over the mountains with Daniel Boone and have been there since. I buried her on that land 20 years ago
Have always wondered what the blessings are on the tokens, may never know. Must be nice to splosh about in a fresh place now and again - every year a fresh layer of ooze to hunt in 😁 I need to find some ooze. Great video, thanks!
Howdy Mr. Si-Finds! I discovered your site by accidentally finding Nicola White's site. I love it! I've been a collector of "things" all my life but don't have anything like your Thames here in California. As a kid I hunted the dry river beds here but the oldest historics are only late 19th Cen. The best stuff was Indian artifacts several thousand years old but that's illegal now. Watching your vids is almost like being there myself. Thanks very much for posting.
Your not kidding about illegal..if you get caught walking in a field looking down, it's straight to jail here in the South..It's so bad a little kid picked up a eagle feather outside a country animals on display farm and the Police arrested him..an 8 year old!!!! $2,500.00 fine!!
Si, I love the head cover!! I have a distant cousin that rides for Trek bikes, in the Tour de France! Buddha ridding a sacred ox? Or Ganesh but Sanskrit on the bottom. I love the elephants!! All good things to find! great hunt!
Great video, I used to fish exactly on that stretch as a teenager back in the 80’s. My step brother fished an old Bren gun from the 2nd world war a little further up from where you were.
You found an aussie ten cent piece all the way over there! Thats pretty cool :D New to your channel , really enjoying your uploads, Thanks for your hard work! Love from South Australia x
you found an Aussie 10 cent coin and it has a lyrebird on the front .Lyrebirds are so called due to their tail feathers form the shape of a lyre . They are also very good mimics of other birds calls.
Nice lot of finds guys! Interesting to see an Aussie 10 cent pop up in the Thames, down here in Australia I've found a few Brit coins up in Sydney including a couple of 1 pound coins and a 2p. That 1947 shilling is a cupronickel so no silver content unfortunately, 1947 actually was the first year all British silver coins went to cupronickel metal composition.
Hello from TEXAS! Beautiful pence coins, I do metal detecting i found a twenty pence coin, n a large copper cent 1787 , beautiful , coins, very good video, I subscribed.
Si-finds my problem is that I only discovered your vids a few weeks ago, then I binge watched everything and now I have to wait for new content like everyone else 😂
Your swans seem nice, here in California the geese are evil creatures that attack. I'm jealous of the history in the ground there, here in CA the old stuff isn't metal so it's just normal eyes only larking and some 1800's stuff around SF, mainly glass and pottery and rarely some silverware.
Hi guys love watching your vedios...the indian tokens are the astrological offerings..say to calm or strengthen ur planet...:-) the god on the buffalo is lord sani( god of Saturn)..:-)good wishes from Nepal...
I know this video is 6 months old and you probably already know but your 10 coin is Australian 10 cents, it's our current currency but you can't buy anything with it unless you have lots more to add. Also loved the coin hoard so amazing.
I live in Richmond, Virginia. We are named for Richmond-on-the-Thames. William Byrd II thought a bend in the James River, reminded him of your Richmond. I don't know if anyone mudlarls around here.
YAY a new video! Hope you've been well, Si. Are you saying mud lovers or my lovers? The metal detector in Clegg says that and I'm not sure which, just that I find it weird lol Amazing you found a hoard. Congratulations :) Beautiful swans.
What he meant was prior to 1920 they were 92.5% silver content. 1920 to 1946 the silver content was 50%. After that date nil silver content. Mike Baize Hi, yes the KG pennies and half pennies are relatively common. But I still love finding them and being the first person to touch them since they were lost. Imagine who lost it?!!! The Indian offerings are quite modern 5-30 years old....
Lovely stuff. Loved the Georgian ha'penny's. If you don't mind me asking, how did you clean up this coin Si? I've found some nice shillings, old pennies, vicky farthings etc on the foreshore and have always found Brillo is the only thing that cleans them. Always nervous about doing damage though... Great video matey 👍

Chris Morgan Top comment. And coming from a Vicar those words carry much gravitas. Thank you
You haven’t been to the casinos. The charitable cause is the owners wallet lol
@Mark Thomas So how does an "adult religion" go about it?

Paul Parnell Hi Paul. Usually electrolysis, then a fibre glass pen. Then I might ‘smoke’ the object to highlight the detail.
Would be nice to see you guys put the offerings back into the water and leave them there.
They're lead love, which is poisonous
What was the music you played when you were showing the cleaned up finds at the end? I liked it !! :-D
Quick question
Do u have to have permits over there to look for relics or is it just the Thames
River u need 1 i love looking for bottles in new Zealand just walking down river banks
Si you could make a wind chime with the offerings
