I cracked this open & was excited at what I found! Mudlarking w/ Nicola White (November 22)

- Oh my goodness! This is the first one of these I have ever found! Something made me stop and pick up an odd shaped lump from the muddy Thames foreshore. I knew from the look and feel of it that there was something inside. My suspicions were soon confirmed! This is the first time I have found one of these and when I got it home I put it in a bucket of water to try to preserve it! During this outing I also find a lovely medallion but I cannot for the life of me see what is on it and so perhaps you can help me. There are also a few other things I could do with your help on.
If you would like to try mudlarking you need a permit from the Port of London Authority. Details here:-

Thank you for watching.

Nicola, I have to let you know you gave my mom so much comfort before she passed. She was always so against learning any type of technology, she would say, “there’s nothing on that cockamamie contraption that I need to see!” She was 85 years old when I showed her one of your videos of you finding a pipe, a porcelain doll head and a few buttons and she was fascinated. I gave her my old iPad and she learned to open CZcams and search your videos. She talked and talked about what you collected and the beautiful scenery you would show. You gave her peace and I can’t thank you enough. ❤
Hi Vic, Thank you for sharing that. Im so very sorry for the loss of your Mum. Im happy that she enjoyed watching the mudlarking and that it gave her pleasure and comfort. When I hear something like that it makes me feel so fortunate to be able to share something I love with people like your Mum. Sending you and her much Love. Nicola xx
I've just been watching videos of my brother. He was the last of my family and he died far too young, 4 years ago (49 years old). A short time before he died he introduced me to Nicola's CZcams channel and they are now both inextricably connected in my mind, which is how I ended up back here tonight, and how I saw your post. Beautiful people like Nicola make such a difference to this world.
Omg....this made me cry
@@LezMarwick hi Lez, I'm sorry for your loss. Sending much love your way ❤️
Peace be to you.
That religious pendant is Catholic miraculous medal.
My dad was Catholic and I found one when I was clearing out his thing's.
I love the young crow at the beginning of your video.
Thank you Nicola for your wonderful videos 😌
Indeed. It is from the Mary of Paris sanctuary.
@@hugolandheer7008 indeed. I was having a difficult day and seeing this in the video reminded me that my father always asked me to wear mine was I was younger. It almost felt as if he was talking to me from beyond the grave
@@myrtlemount Absolutely your father was right and no doubt Our Blessed Mother herself was asking you to wear it again. It's very powerful against Satan for those who belong to Christ and love His Mother! I am never without mine! " Oh Mary Conceived without sin pray for us Who have recourse to Thee." ❤🙏🏽
There's an interesting backstory. The design was based on a nun's vision. A search online will do it better justice as well as good illustrations of it. And I too appreciate the birds at the shore as well as your choice of music. Your videos are a great way to take a serenity break from the chores of the day. And there's no limit to what a squirrel will do to B&E (break & enter) a bird feeder! Thanks, Nicola.

@@jennywalborn7769 hey Jenny I am never without my miraculous medal and rosary. How wonderful to 'find' this in the mud.
The medal is Catholic. Its called the " Miraculous Medal"- has The Virgin Mary on one side, and the Cross on the obverse, with the M for Mary, below. These are surrounded by stars. It's a medal well known to Catholics. Love your channel! (The words on the medal say, " O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us, who have recourse to Thee.")
Nicola, I have to thank you. I have really been struggling lately and watching you has significantly helped to calm and quiet my mind, even just for a little while. you have been a beacon of light through my tough time. ❤️
me too
In response to your question, that medal you found is a Miraculous Medal. The writing on it says," O Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to Thee. The two Hearts❤️ on the back are the Sacred & The Immaculate Hearts.
❤HUGS❤
Leannemarie5522 you need a big long HUG from someone special to you. And words of support and love. You may not feel like it too much right now but you have the world by the oysters. Don’t ask me what that means. You will figure it out. You are right though, Nicola knows how to bring peace in my soul.
You are absolutely delightful. I love living vicariously through you.
Nothing is more soothing than a cup of tea and watching Nicola mud larking! Her voice is so comforting.
Agreed!
Me, too, except make mine coffee! She is loved in America, as well 😃
I concur!

I can't walk the shorelines anymore so she's my hero!
I feel like she gets all muddy just for me she's so personable.

16:22- Those are the metal bases from Loctal tubes for radios Dates from late 30's through the 1960's. often used in WW2 military radios. I have hundreds of the tubes for restoring old radios. Awesome find on the cannon ball. Very rare item here in the PNW of the U.S. On the cannonball, one can use a product called 'Rust Mort" or similar which will cause the rust to be chemically converted and will stop rust. If you can't find it there, try a panel beaters shop. They use it to stop rust on vehicles. IIRC, weigh the cannon ball. It's weight will indicate the size of cannon. Example: if it weighs 6 lbs. the cannon would have been a 6 pounder. My memory could be faulty on that info though.
Might they be bobbin casings from a sewing machine? Looks like the ones in my machines…
Nicola, I lost my big brother unexpectedly last week 4 days after surgery to amputate his foot. I have had trouble sleeping ever since returning from Georgia for his funeral. Listening to your calming voice on yet another great video actually relaxed me enough that I literally fell asleep typing my comment to you yesterday.
The cannon ball was a great find and I enjoyed seeing the cannons! Loved seeing sweet Grace again! She’s grown into such a stunning young lady!
Much love from DeeAnn 🇺🇸
How can videos based on the thrill of the hunt also be so peaceful and relaxed? That's an excellent trick! Best to you always
Good point!
Kit and Caboodlers videos are relaxing to view as well
So glad you find them relaxing xx
The roundels are what appears to be the remains of small iron caster wheels - the holder and spining bearings having corroded away.
I'm oddly fascinated by that thick washer! LOL #thesearcher
Was anyone else expecting that ball to explode💣💥
That looks like a Miraculous Medal. If I remember my mum's, it think it starts with O Mary conceived without sin... I can't remember the rest. Maybe the find foreshadows that you'll miraculously discover an intact onion bottle or Roman pot soon!
The Miraculous Medal has a cross the the letter “M” on it. Nicola’s has two crosses.
I agree
It is a Miraculous Medal. The reverse has a cross with a horizontal base intertwined in the "M". You have a great eye!
@@woohoo5473 One of "two crosses" is part of an M
I have a gadget, looks like a blunt pen, it's an extendable magnet for fishing things like car keys from drains or small things in tight spaces, might be useful for you when picking up small metal bits ! I use it to fish sewing pins out of the cracks in the parquet floor !
I set aside time every Sunday to watch your latest video. It brings me joy every week. I sit in my little Texas house and see you uncover objects from the past and recognize that I’m unlikely to ever find anything that predates 1830 in my town! My favorite find today was the bottle. If only you had been able to slip a note in before it continued its journey. #thesearcher
The medal looks like a miraculous medal.
I absolutely love hearing about the history of the items you found. #TheSearcher
It is definitely a Miraculous medal - with a cross over a capital M and two hearts underneath, on the reverse. I used to own a couple of Miraculous medals so I thought that your medal looked familiar, Nicola. 😊
Having your daughter participate in your video was my favorite part. Time doing things with your children, that you both enjoy, is the best time. #thesearcher.
The rapid colour change in those pipes never ceases to amaze me
He’s a scammer
Well the Thames is the best collector of old and new treasures that i know. Obviously he wanted the Glass bottle, piano polish back. Snook in crafty like and snatched it back.
Ah well, you did find other treasures which you were allowed to keep, so that's not so bad. One of my favourite things, is seeing you find a pipe bowl. Then scrape and pop out a good long stem. So satisfying. I do love all the interesting finds you collect though. So much history scattered in and the mud. X
I know it's not part of the mudlarking, I love all of that anyway, but I did love seeing your daughter feeding the squirrel, and then the bonus one with you at the end. I think they are lovely little creatures. #TheSearcher
I’m from Wisconsin,USA. We also have some great treasures here. Pre-historic, pre- American Indian etc. but I’ve only seen them in museums. I love going on your adventures of mudlarking on your own or with the other mudlarkers. The history is wonderful, the scenery stupendous, the squeals of delight make me happy. I feel like I’ve been there along with you. Would love to see more of your artwork. Thanks so much for introducing me to the world of mudlarking#thesearcher
My favorite part of any of your videos is the excitement of watching you extract a pipe bowl. I loved that your beautiful daughter, Grace was in this video. Congratulations on being on the cover of #TheSearcher !
No one can do a pipe extraction like Nicola. I was living in Waco Texas, working as a butcher and met a lovely British lady. She loved the fact that I watched a lovely British lady mud laking 😊
I love that your daughter was involved in this one, and I appreciate the research you do into your treasures, that the Thames gives up, and sometimes takes back!😊
#The Searcher!
Congratulations on being featured as the cover story on Searcher Magazine! Outstanding cannonball find! Silver bullet? Maybe it was used for protection from the Werewolves of London? Maybe the fate of the polish bottle was still in the Mudlarking gods' hands and that it was meant for a new mudlark who sorely wanted to find their first complete bottle. That or maybe it's meant for someone mudlarking in the next century? Treasures come and go but memories are forever. #thesearcher
I loved the time lapse of the pipe turning white! #the searcher
I love Miss Kitty…..so glad you found her and gave her a home 😊
Love watching your "journey of discovery!" #THE SEARCHER!
I enjoyed the chalk drawing of the lady on the mossy wall and the swans swimming in line were so relaxing to watch. #thesearcher
Always love your videos, Nicola. The canon ball is a "big" find. After following you on a regular basis and wanting so much to be on the Thames foreshore, my dream finally came true last week. I bought a three year permit and a eurostar ticket and could mudlark several times in central London. I was over the moon. Can t wait to do it again.#thesearcher.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it
I envy you! (in the best possible way) I have the same dream, but with no realistic hope of it coming true. Will you be filming/posting it? Would love to watch. Best wishes! Or is that "cheers"?
@@juliao1255 Unfortunately I only took pictures of my finds.
My favorite part of this video (and all of the videos) is your enthusiasm for what you do! When you get excited about a find, I find myself getting excited. #TheSearcher
Isn't it amazing to hold a little bit of history in your hand? Thank you for taking us along on your adventures! #Thesearcher
What a smashing good time watching you chip away the rust concretion from the cannonball to reveal such a magnificent sphere of history! The squirrel, as well as the interloper visitor squirrel makes me so happy. Thank you for taking us along with your fabulous camerawoman on this lark with you. Always happy to see where you’ll take us next to discover more curiously fabulous finds! #thesearcher
Wonderful video as always Nicola, beautiful medallion, coin and pipe. Thanks to Grace for the lovely clips with squirrel and the cannon ball. I had so many squirrels fighting over sunflower seeds in my 18inch diameter glass sunflower that they broke it off the stand and shattered it on a brick on the garden edge. I will have to get in touch with my daughter to find out where she got it, my grandson likes to go around the garden and point out the things HE gave me. Thanks Nicola!
That squirrel was trying to tell you that he wanted some nuts !!!!! I loved everything that you found !!!!!
I particular loved the wildlife you showed in your video. The birds are delightful and your squirrel is just lovelly #thesearcher
Things I liked about your video:
Your finds, the squirrel, getting your daughter involved, history lessons, and the thought of you refunding that bottle in the future as well as the lesson to embrace what we have now as it could slip away. And...the second squirrel. Would love a signed copy of #thesearcher magazine
Thanks! Mudluring Queen⚘⚘⚘you do amazing videos❤. Hope you have a wonderful week👑👋
Thank you very much. That's so kind of you ❤️
Lovely to see the cannons n your daughter.Enjoyed this video.
Really liked that cannonball !!! In the USA she's called "Hello Kitty" I didn't know that she had different names. Nicola your daughter is pretty like you !!! ❤️🙂 #thesearcher
I really like your editing, especially the intro to your video with scenes of the river and the birds as well as the music you've chosen. It must take a lot of hard work to put even a single video together with the care you obviously put in your content.
Thank you!
Loved the canon ball and the pipe, those round things with holes in remind me of sewing reels, thanks again for another good vid #thesearcher
Those little washers could be copper 'roves' that are used to form a rivet with a square copper nail in boat building. It might be worth your while collecting copper nails and roves etc as you go, because copper is a surprisingly valuable scrap metal.
It's got the be the pipe transformation for me. I love how you nearly always find pipes and seeing them transform over night. Watching from New Zealand :) #thesearcher
Loved seeing how your whole family support you! Excellent camera work by Grace! #TheSearcher
Always nice to see Miss Squirrel! And I appreciate all the history of each object. Thank you! #thesearcher
What a great video. I am so happy to see the trip to the cannons. More history and enjoyment and so happy to see Grace Thank You so much
Nicola, I always enjoy all your videos. Wish Canada was as old as the U.K. It was so nice to meet your daughter too. Congrats on being on the cover of the Searcher. #thesearcher
What I love most, is the way you present your videos and your insatiable curiosity of history. You bring so much history to life through your finds and you’re very inspirational. I look forward to all your videos and hope one day I can go mud larking on the Thames. #THE SEARCHER 🙏
The squirrel was to funny, as well as your comments, made my day 😂
Our favourite part of the video was seeing more of Nicola’s ever-helpful family, and bringing the finds to life with the sightseeing! #thesearcher
Hi Nicola. You and si are my favorite mudlarkers. I get so excited to see your finds. Uk has so much history. It's my dream to come there some day. Til then I'll enjoy mudlarking with you. ❤
Thank you for always smiling and sharing. I always enjoy your trips to the muddy shore.
I like the fact you research your finds and let us know the stories behind the items. You have a great eye for finding some great items! #THESEARCHER
I love seeing everything you find. The cannon ball definitely makes one wonder where it came from. #thesearcher
What a great find that cannon ball was! Very interesting video as always. 👍😊
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for your videos, you always put so much extra in. It is nice to have a window into your part of the world.
As always, Nicola, I enjoy your videos! I find your editing including the birds is quite calming to one's soul.
Your trip put to the cannons with your beautiful daughter Grace was fun!
Ha ha ha!!! The interloper!!!
I would dearly love to win one of The Searcher magazines!!

That cannon ball was an awesome find. Well done Nicola! # The Searcher
I really enjoyed the cannonball. And the queue of birds in the water! And congratulations on your cover and story in #thesearcher!
It isn't a mudlark without a pipe! True words Nicola! I loved seeing the pipe restore itself to original. Quite amazing. So exciting to see you in a magazine! #thesearcher ❤️😊
You never know what you are going to find. That is the thrill of mudlarking. Thanks Nicola. Enjoyed this video. Iain Leeds Yorkshire. 🇬🇧🏴.
Your video today has already given me a wonderful gift… my splitting headache began to dissipate upon your well wishes. So thank you very much!
I hope it goes completely! ❤️
Massive congratulations on being featured in Searcher magazine, Nicola! And lovely meeting your ever-so-cute Grace.
What an altogether enjoyable video, Nicola! It was lovely seeing Grace again after quite some time, in addition to your squirrel friends. I guess it's ok the tide washed the furniture polish bottle away as long as it didn't take you with it! Please stay safe out there......#TheSearcher
Thx steve xx
I think my most favorite part of this video was seeing the cannons and watching you and your family enjoy a trip out together. Congratulations on being on #TheSearcher!
Mesmerized by your finds!!
Wishing our Rivers & Lakes had this much History in America 🇺🇸
Love 💘 to see what you find

As you were the first mudlarking channel I found a few years ago I have learned so much from you about so many different finds, met many others like yourself from your recommendations of channels, and learned that some finds can lead to quite an adventure and occasionally a long lost relative of the owner. Your videos are always a joy to watch, thank you.😊
Absolute classic Nicola White mudlark: just you, beautiful wildlife, and the fun of the hunt. Loved it.❤
Thank you xx 😘
Watching you find treasures is always exciting but the squirrels at the end were hilarious leaping about and trying to get to the peanuts. #TheSearcher
It was lovely to see mum and daughter together ☺️ You are a force of nature, Nicola! Xoxoxo #TheSearcher
Having children of my own, I very much loved seeing your daughter look like she has come in to her own. She looks like a lovely person!
Thank you xx
I enjoy it when you show us parts of the history of your finds, like seeing the cannons. I also enjoy the wildlife you show interspersed in your videos, it's always so lovely, even the cawing of the baby crow, begging for food from its parent. I would love to have one of the copies of the magazine you're in, it would be fun to read. #THE SEARCHER
Congrats on being on the cover of #thesearcher magazine... I enjoyed when you went on the field trip to the cannons. I wish I lived closer to be able to go mudlarking.... it looks like so much fun!
I always look forward too your videos and learning about your finds
It was lovely too see you and your daughter working together and miss squirrel 🐿
#thesearcher
It's always a joy to watch you uncover the history along the beautiful Thames! My favorite of the finds this time was the little mystery medallion. #TheSeacher Thank you for taking us along on your adventures. ❤
As always a fascinating insight into lost history being found again. Love the cannon ball & actually seeing the pipe changing back from black was interesting. Congrats on the feature in the magazine too. Glad I stayed to the very end & caught the acrobatic squirrel footage 🤣 They are entertaining to watch. Thank you for sharing ❤️

Always enjoy watching you find interesting pieces of history. Still don't know how you can spot tiny things in the mud as you walk along... Watching you and Si every Sunday is a ritual now. Cheers from Vancouver Island...
This was my first mud larking video and I have to say it was adorable! I love that these objects lost to time are being reclaimed and shared with the world. The best part was hands down losing the bottle back to the tide. It will live on in a memory for us all. ❤ #thesearcher
If you liked the lark, there are loads of them putting out videos. I highly recommend watching one of Nicolas done with her mate Simon, of Si-finds. He's quite a bit of fun.
She is the queen of mudlarking, may I suggest you have a look at Kit and caboodlers mudlarking, they are lovely and enthusiastic.
My favorite thing about this particular video is how exciting it was to pull up the cannonball! Imagine.... touching something where someone else placed their own hands well before you. Touching history! #thesearcher
I enjoyed the history of George III and to find out he had such a long reign as King. I've been a searcher of trinkets and odd things since I was a child digging in the yard. #TheSearcher :) Congrats on your honor.
I always love your editing and your wonderful historical finds. Born and raised a Texan but 90% of my DNA comes from the British Isles so I always believe the items you find could be from my ancestors. #THESEARCHER
There are many of us Texans with Irish/English/Scottish lineage!
Congrats on the cannon ball and other treasures. Cool coin too. Take care and thank you for sharing 🙏👍❤️
It was so wonderful to see Grace and to see the cannonball back at its home! Oh! Another favourite was Sqiggy, the acrobatic squirrel!! Thank you Nicola. Lots of love xxx #thesearcher
That bottle was really interesting, sorry that you lost it #THESEARCHER Thank you so much for sharing your finds with us and letting us know more about them!
Good day Nicola! I super enjoyed watching today’s episode…Great seeing your daughter Grace too! You both look so much alike. I enjoyed hearing about your squirrel friend and was so happy to see him at the window…You and squirrel are both my favorite collectors of goodies! #thesearcher
Loved all the great finds in this video. I'm a real history buff. Amazing that you continue to find pipes. Watching about 1 1/2 years now. #Thesearcher
I laughed out loud at the silly young crow! I love your birding interludes @ #thesearcher !
It never fails to amaze me how good your eyes are! It’s always fun to see what you find! I love Ferraro Roche, too!😄
Always interesting and beautifully shot Nicola! Such a nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon every week watching your latest recoveries from the Thames whilst I smoke my cigar and sip my cognac xo
I loved seeing you get to spend some time exploring history with your daughter Grace, it’s so nice to get family time doing something you love. Also that hungry baby crow at the beginning was very cute. #thesearcher
I've been taken mudlarking on the Thames several times this year. It takes some time to get your eye in, and I found my first pipe bowl on my last visit. I love the way you recreate the experience - the anticipation when you spot something and how it reveals itself as you prise it from the mud. #thesearcher
I loved this video a usual, I feel sorry for your bottle loss, I guess the mighty Thames gives AND takes away. 🤣 loved the pipe transformation thank you #thesearcher
I loved the bottle, it looked like it may have still had a cork/stopper and some of the original content although that could have been mud and river water too. #TheSearcher
Love your always pleasant demeanor as well as your soothing voice!!💕❤️#thesearcher
Loved the cannonball! Congratulations on your first one…. And congratulations on being a cover girl!
Great video as always! #thesearcher
I just discovered your mudlarking videos this past summer and have been going back through the playlist. I enjoy catching a glimpse of a landmark and "Google mapping" along the Thames or the estuary to find your search location. I'm in the U.S., so each video is a mini travelogue, history lesson, and nature documentary. Thanks for all the fun.

Well done being on the cover of #the searcher you always find such amazing treasures. I too have a squirrel who eats every thing I put out for the the birds and then takes away the feeders!
Love the baby crow wanting to be fed. #TheSearcher
