    DESCRIPTION
    Welcome to HowFixit! In this video, I'll take you through a step-by-step guide on how to disassemble Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502, GU502 laptop, clean its fans, and replace the thermal paste. Our comprehensive tutorial will equip you with the knowledge of fixing laptop overheating issues. From disassembling your laptop to cleaning the fan and heatsink from dust and applying thermal paste, we've got you covered. Say goodbye to overheating and hello to improved performance!
    * Laptop Disassembly Guide:
    Disassembling your laptop may seem daunting, but I'll break it down into easy-to-follow steps. You'll learn how to remove the laptop's casing, locate and clean the heatsink and fans, and access to CPU for thermal paste replacement. By following this guide, you'll gain a deeper understanding of your laptop's internals and how to keep it running smoothly.
    * Fan Cleaning Techniques:
    Dust and debris can accumulate in your laptop's fans and heatsink over time, leading to reduced airflow and increased temperatures. I'll show you effective methods to clean your laptop using an antistatic brush and proper handling techniques. By keeping your cooling system clean, you'll prevent overheating and extend the lifespan of your laptop.
    * Thermal Paste Replacement:
    Thermal paste plays a crucial role in transferring heat from the laptop's CPU and GPU to the heatsink. However, over time, a thermal paste can dry out and lose its effectiveness. I'll guide you through the process of removing the old thermal paste and applying a fresh, high-quality one. This step is vital for optimal heat dissipation and temperature management. Don't let an overheating laptop slow you down! Watch this comprehensive guide and take control of your laptop's temperature. By performing regular fan cleaning and thermal paste replacement, you'll ensure smooth operation, prevent hardware damage, and extend the life of your laptop. Hit the play button now and let's get started!

    I have this laptop and after cleaning the fans, it runs sooooo much better. My Cyberpunk 2077 would run at 45 FPS on Medium Graphics before cleaning the fans. Now it runs at 60 FPS on Ultra Graphics and 25-30 FPS with Ray Tracing turned fully on and set to Ultra. I also tested Doom 2016 and it runs at the highest possible Graphics at 144+ FPS, the screen is only 144hz so it can't go above 144FPS. I bought it used and never thought to clean the fans but I am so glad that I did

    Few corrections here... cleaning the dust out of the fans with a brush over top of the board is never a good idea especially because the heatsink compound on the video ram and vrms was not replaced (if you are having heat issues it is always best to replace all of the thermal paste). Only one fan was separated from the heatsink to clean the congestion point between the fan and the heatsink but it would be a much better idea to remove both fans and make sure all heatsinks are completely clear of dust and debris

    Nice video, you should try to apply thermal grease to the vrms chips as well or use thermal pads without the mess to help keep them cool next time you repaste.

    (4:42) So there are 2 VRAM sockets not populated with 1GB chips. Maybe some of these boards came with 8GB GPUs at one point, we can see that they even covered those blank slots with the stock cooler!! I wonder if there are some resistors that have to be re-positioned so that those chips could be seen by the mobo. I wonder if changes could be made to the motherboard BIOS with AMI flash tools? Or if the actual VBIOS has to be changed, I mean technically the VRAM is soldered to the mobo. I've also read that the RTX 2000 series can technically interface with 2GB chips and some people have replaced those 1GB smaller ones as an upgrade.

      I have this one and it over heats soooo bad, It runs games normally but ever 60 seconds it will go down to 5-10 FPS for like a minute and then goes back to normal. It does this because it is over heating, also ive even had it just turn off on me when playing games because it got sooooo hot. If you touch above the keyboard, that part os so hot that it literally hurns your hand, I'm kind of scared that it is going to just expload and start a fire. Also I bought it used almost a year ago and when I got it, the battery life was soooo bad, it stays on for 5 minutes without having anything open. If I open something, it turns off in 1 minute. Should I get a new battery? Also do all gaming laptops get extreamly hot where it is uncomfortable to touch and do all of them need to have dust removed every 3-5 months? If they do not, then I'm for sure going to sell it and buy a different one that doesn't over heat and need constant maintenance

      But I have heard that laptops in general are very loud and can overheat easily. Mostly cause it’s a lot of power in a compact space.
      Now here’s my question do you know what the where the vrms is located and the video thing as well on this laptop?

      @@EdgarMendezz It will hurt your performance by a bit, but in games that you can manage, use a tool like "Throttlestop" to just completely disable turbo from your CPU. This will pretty much guarantee that you will not thermal throttle down to 10fps but will hurt your performance. Alternatively get a fan(needs to be pretty good) and prop your laptop up with a book or something. Have the fan blow air from the side of the laptop to move tons of air underneath it. This will solve a lot of your thermal issues.

      @leahvigs I may be misunderstanding here and of course no idea of your fan curve - but to my understanding those temperatures are fine, stable and FAR within spec for a laptop.
      If the fans didn't work that's one thing, but maybe they were not at 2/3000 rpm, because you were running so cool already (73 C).
      If it was melting and or in need of the a higher rpm from fans... don't you think the temperatures would have been climbing steadily? Again- don't know the issue or your scenario. Just that if I could get my CPU or GPU to 73 C I wouldn't care what the fans were at.
      Either way, best best is to take a fan out and get a part number / start your search from there. Good luck.

      @@mdmcd6273 it started at 40°c when i booted up my laptop, when i went into BIOS it steadily climbed up to 73°c but the fan speed started at 774rpm (when at 40°) and didn’t budge from there. my laptop is used to being 73°+ but usually the fans run much faster when at that temp, i noticed because it got suuuper hot to the touch and normally it’s just warm. it also makes a loud strange noise which i assume is coming from the fan? i brought it to geek squad and they cleaned it out but couldn’t access anything under the heat sink and mentioned it could be the CPU dying. however the laptop itself (5yrs) runs beautifully besides overheating so i feel like it’s either a broken fan, loose bearing, not enough lubricant, or something to that degree. i could absolutely be wrong though, normally i wouldn’t care about the 73° as that’s normal like you said but it seems unable to cool itself down at all now
      i’m definitely going to try replacing the fan and see if that fixes it but i haven’t gotten around to it yet as moneys tight lol. thank you for replying and giving some insight!!
