Episode 6: Coach Rac's 3 BIGGEST Baseball Parenting Mistakes

Welcome back fellow Headbangers to another exciting video! In today's video, Coach RAC will be discussing 3 BIGGEST Baseball Parenting Mistakes!
Short Summary:
1. Don’t correct mechanics during competition.
Don’t say things like keep your elbow up or stop pulling your head mid at bat. I once spoke with 1984 rookie of the year Alvin Davis about this and he said that when the ball is moving it is too late to make any mechanical adjustments. Baseball requires fast twitch muscles and you simply don’t have time to make adjustments once you’re in the game. It might feel like you have the answers or know why your kid is struggling in the game, however, it is usually most beneficial to them to let them just play when it becomes gametime.
2. Stop Saying Too Much
baseball is extremely hard. And it is OK to not have the answer sometimes. I have played this game at its highest levels, and there is often times where I still don’t necessarily know the right answer. And that is OK. I don’t need to have all the answers to be a great coach or baseball parent. I can give encouragement and when I don’t have the answers, I can go do some research online and then make an educated decision.
3. Don’t punish poor performance
So many kids these days are getting baseball performance anxiety. They are scared to fail because they know they will let you down or have consequences when they don’t play to the best of our abilities. Realize that every player wants to play their best and often times players fail because well it’s just a part of the game it’s not because they are trying to ignore your advice or because they actually want to fail. So be forgiving and don’t even mention the Failures just encourage the successes so that your kid might be able to play free of fear of failure.
Sometimes less is more and being humble as a parent and or coach is essential to your players development.
