We are proud to share with you this Song Around The World in honor of the Grateful Dead's 50th anniversary. Our friends at JamBase asked us to turn the Grateful Dead's 1970 classic, "Ripple" into a PFC Song Around the world as part of their "Songs Of Their Own" series (www.jambase.com/soto.aspx) and after many miles on planes, trains and automobiles we can finally share it with all of you!!
"Ripple" is in support of the Playing For Change Foundation's music schools and programs for children worldwide and we need your help. Watch the video and then let’s turn that inspiration we all share into something bigger. Join the "Ripple Effect" campaign so we can all leave the world better than we found it, one heart and one song at a time. As Jerry Garcia said, "Let there be songs to fill the air..."
Special Thanks to our Supporters: The Jerry Garcia Foundation (www.jerrygarciafoundation.org/), The Ripple Foundation, SeaChange (www.schange.com), Michael Klein and Judi Hunt.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

The absolute most beautiful version of a perfect song. In my 66 years on earth this is the BEST song I have ever heard. If you want to start your day off with pure happiness then listen to "Ripple" four times! The joy of the musicians is infectious: Roberto Luti, FeFe Lee, Bill Krueutzmann, La Marisoul, Keelin Garcia, Blind Boy Paxton, Elyasaf Bashari, Luciano Damiani, Sassi de Matera Strings, Washboard Chaz, Jason Tamba, Anala Abdel Halik, Mohammed Alidu, Tula, Vasti Jackson (the three most soulful guitar licks ever played), Las Rosas Angelina's, Clarence Bekker ( the luckiest, and coolest, cat on earth), The Chicago Children's Choir, David Crosby, Jimmy Buffet and David Hildago. I hope all these folks know the how important they are to the world!
I also listen to it virtually every morning, and whenever I need to regain perspective. Love it.
Greetings, Robbie best wishes from an old head inJury Yorkshire. I agree completely with your sentiments. Peace.
I've always loved this great song too Robbie. Such beautiful poetry and music.
I am 67 ...and I totally agree
robbie rosenbaum I agree. This version of this beautiful little tune brings tears to my eyes. The melody flows softly like a warm and gentle breeze and the lyrics speak of life. One's birth, one's journey through life and finally, one's passing from it. "That path is for your steps alone''. This would have been a very dark and dreary world without The Grateful Dead.
RIP David Crosby and RIP Jimmy Buffet. What a lovely moment was captured here!
I was just thinking the same thing. So glad to have captured them while we still had them.
Well put!
Happy 420!!
Two greats are gone from here ....David Crosby and now the mayor of Margaritaville, Jimmy buffet...rip to you both and thanks for years of memories
Beautifully said, Tricia. Cheers to you, and to Dave and Jim as well.
🙏🙏
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Tears of joy formed when Jimmy Buffet started singing and then they started falling when David Crosby’s verse hit.
Hey, did you know you can watch our videos ad-free here? www.playingforchange.com/videos/ripple-song-around-the-world
RIP Jimmy Buffet...😢
Yea man,
Our musical hero’s have faded and the ones left are fading fast.
I’m just thankful I was Blessed enough to hear them when they were alive.
Who’s gonna fill their shoes? The world wonders.
When Jimmy comes in on the second verse it makes my day, every time.
This is still the best cover of Ripple. Makes me smile to see these talented musicians having a great time and nailing the song.
RIP Jerry, Jimmy and David.❤❤❤
dont forget robert hunter, he wrote it! =)
@@FrittenFritzgeraldwhen I hear this song I'm back in Monte Rio on the Russian River
If one ever thought The Grateful Dead didn’t inspire the masses, this absolutely beautiful rendition of the classic, should open those eyes bright. How beautiful this is. I’m simply amazed.
Anyone that says that doesn't know GD
I am 74 and listen to this everyday in my studio while painting it just lifts me up with hope and joy. Thank you
I’m 79 and just discovered this! Better late than never
Lovely. May it be reflected in your work.
Yes !
I'm 74 and just discovered this on my porch with my dog. We love it!
I agree with you, it is an uplifting song. And for people around the world to join in.
And now Jimmy has departed. Seeing and hearing him play a part in this wonderful production is always a pleasure. RIP Mr Buffet.
RIP David Crosby. Bummer he's gone, but a good long amazing life.
Seeing David Crosby kind of brought a tear. It was Jerry Garcia who lent his slide guitar to Teach Your Children, all those years ago. I'm sure David remembers too.
Pedal steel, not slide.
A tear or two specially hearing Crosby and Buffett who are both gone now.
I've listened to this lovely tune from PFC many a time ; and just now again with thoughts of Jimmy Buffett in my ❤.. RIP Sailor.. Hope you're enjoying your Cheeseburgers In Paradise 🤗
@@drebyrd54
I Stand corrected. I believe Jerry asked CSN to teach the Dead how to harmonize in exchange.
@@garyschneider8829
Very sad. But Jimmy left a wonderful legacy.
RIP Robert Hunter - you did know the way, and you took us all home.
Whoever did the arrangement for these artists is a pure genius. The blending of these sounds makes me love this song even more.
You are absolutely right about that!!
Genius indeed. The segments were not recorded in studios but in situ all over the world. Magician I say. I love the piece with Jimmy Buffett at Montauk Lighthouse, appropriate for an enlightening song.
Absolutely!!
One of the greatest songs ever created and the Playing For Change rendition is perfect. People from all over the world singing with such joy.
Absolutely international..let the music bring the people together.such hope cannot be denied
Right on, right on!
Rest in Peace Robert Hunter...the man who wrote these amazing lyrics.
No Resting In Peace - too long I expect to hear this song and play along when I arrive.
RIP David Crosby
You will be missed by so many that you brought joy to
R.I.P. Jimmy, You've made us happy with your music over the years.
This song has helped soothe my soul for nearly 50 years. Never heard a bad version.
Wow! That really was an awesome version. I love at the end when Kreutzmann throws his hands in the air as if to say, "Did you hear that Jerry?".
I'm sure Jerry had a big ole grin watching this lovingly 🥰
Even ole Krutz knows what a masterpiece this music is.
yes, he did
This tune makes the world go round. Thanks David Crosby for gracing this version.
Now more than you know.
Jerry didn't like David I just saw an article. What a bummer
@@keemandikotravels I can believe that. David was never exactly popular. But I love both Jerry and David. In the words of David himself, "why can't we go on as three"?
No body can replace David Crosby amazing warming voice!
@@keemandikotravels It's unlikely the animosity was lifelong. Crosby was a bit of a dab hand at upsetting people and even managed to alienate his closest and most loyal friend Graham Nash, but he also evidently had his good side and he did coach the Dead into strengthening their vocals: I'm sure Garcia would have been grateful (sic) for that.
I've been a dead head my whole life. This living tribute made me fully aware of Jerry's brilliance, and Bill's genius too. Tears streaming down my cheeks. My God!❤

I only wish more folks enjoyed the gift Jerry left me. John Prine too. NANCI Griffith, Guy Clark, all sitting around in heaven making music.
Me too, I was a card carrying member and they even sent me a " "Jerry Garcia for President" bumper sticker that I wish I still had. I never put it on my van but I don't know what happened to it.
and Robert Hunter's, my favorite poet
I am one of Jerry’s kids,first concert 1969
I have been blocked up by fear and anxiety for months. What I needed was a good cry. The sheer beauty of this broke me down. I am so incredibly Grateful to be among you on this bright blue ball just spinning free.
We're with you brother!
All in this together. I'm glad you got what you needed from this beautiful piece. Stay strong brother
You got this.. peace, love and good music always works..🌍✨✨🌍
Ahhh yes. Music is good medicine. Soak it up. Remember it , return during times of stress. Be well.
Right here with you friend. And yes be free...
This has got to be one of THE greatest versions of this song I have ever heard.
Word!!! 😎
IT ISSSS
word.
Absotively ! ! !
For real
Incredibly, Mark Johnson pioneered today's (unfortunate) socially-distant performances in a quest for unity through shared music. He achieved true beauty here.
This maybe the future for now. Brillient job
I’m 78 and STILL LOVE this song!!! WELL DONE! Thank you all!😍
I'm 6 months younger than you, girl, luvya!
I'm 63 a true public relations song
Rest in peace David Crosby and thank you for all the beautiful music
This came up on my playlist and it should one of the best songs of all time. This is one of the best renditions ever. Today jimmy Buffett passed away and my son who is a grown man now said isn't that the bench we took a picture on when we went to Montauk it brought tears to my eyes. RIP Mr. Jimmy Buffett much Love. thanks fo0r a great life brother.
A bunch of very talented humans contributed to this masterpiece….
When Bill lifts his sticks at the end. Pure joy.
Am sure that Jerry is smiling in heaven each time someone clicks on that video because he love every type of music/musician from a round the world (he played with a lot of them). I’m sure he would be in joy knowing that musicians around the world gathered around to sing his song. Jerry always thought that music is stronger than everything and that’s what makes political values, social crises and everything bad about this world go away and make people bond together just like what Playing For Change do. We miss you Jerry always grateful 💀⚡️🌹
Great to see Bill Kreutzmann doing this.
I've listened to this song for 45 years. I've never heard it without crying. This is as beautiful as music gets. Thank you.
what do you think about it being sung world wide?
It makes me tear up every time I hear it as well. One of my favorite songs, and this is a really cool version of it. I'm sittin' here with tears rolling down my cheeks as we speak.
@@nevadaned Me too. I miss Jerry so much.
@@johnmcdonald9304 Good Lord so do I.
Couldn’t agree more....beautiful
Seeing different people singing in harmony, make me feel the hope for mankind. We have more in common than the difference. For this moment, it's LA LA LA.
It's 12:47 am in Nepal right now and I have an exam tomorrow and this song is just perfect for me to sit back for a while and just chill man and there is nothing to lose. Just gonna give my best and not be stressed out.
Thank you to all the artists and playing for change for this beautiful cover of Ripple.
Good luck with your tests
Hope they went well for you
In addition to all the wonderful things already mentioned about this film, I have to give a shout-out to the producers who chose such beautiful and unique settings to place all these fantastic musicians, and the cinematographers who captured it all so perfectly.
The logistics in setting up the song, plus the logistics of choosing the scenes to show, indicated a lot of work and love went into this production.
I was with this video 100% loving it! But when David Crosby came on at the end, my face lit up like a 5 yr old on Christmas morning - such a fantastic job putting this video together! Going around the world & putting all these excellent musicians together- BRAVO! 👏✌👍👌❤
I was the same. I started clapping
That was my resction to jimmy buffet even though I’m more of a crosby fan. Wasn’t expecting Jimmy there
First song my wife and I danced to as a married couple 27 years ago. Hanging Christmas lights on the tree anticipated our College + aged kids return home for at least a few days. So Much Love!
I am 73 and this music makes my heart happy
“Let there be songs
To fill the air”
One of the best lines in all of music.
Moves me to tears ...thanks to these wonderful musicians who made this happen...Peace and love ya'll
me too....
I am 79 years old and I listen to this every day
What an incredible mixing job. With all these performers you wonder why it doesn't turn into a big mush. Instead you get seamless transitions from one instrument or group of singers to another. It sounds so natural. And the result being so carefree and easy.
RIP Mr. Hunter. Thank you for the blessing you gave to so many.
Hard not to cry - this speaks of hope in these troubling times.
One way or another, this darkness got to give.
Robert Hunter's poetry has taught me so much.
Really need this song to play again today my friends! Let us all come together!
Once more from the ❤. Happy Jerry Day 2023.
This song did more for the world in four minutes than the United Nations has done in nearly 80 years.
Simply gorgeous. Music truly transcends all. May the 4 winds always carry us onward.
A thousand 'thumbs-up'... Fantastic world-wide musical collaboration
Timeless treasure. I could play this on repeat always and have played this for a long long time...I’m 65.
My dear friend Ginny went down that path for her steps alone and went Home, and we played and sang it at her memorial. She so loved The Dead.
I love these videos. Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for us. Music has a way of bringing people together. Peace to All
What an amazing gift to see the dead i nowove listening to playing fot change around the world
This is more than just a well-written song, it's a freakin' ANTHEM man! This is a really nice version of it too.
Perfectly expressed, bro.🤘😎
It really is.
Also a prayer and a hymn.
The best I know of both.
Probably the greatest comforting sing-along song ever!!!--It makes me happy and soothes my soul !!!
RIP Robert Hunter... thank you for all the joyous sounds of love
Never could afford to travel with the Dead, but their music is unique and identifiable.
Ripple is my favorite Dead classic.
I turned 69 in May 2019.
With the way the world is right now we need love and World group hugs! This song makes it all possible. This song gives chills, makes me smile and warms my ❤️ Thank You!🥰
My Mom is going to be 96 in December. Played Ripple for her yesterday, she became an instant Dead Head.
RIP Robert Hunter, I love this version of this song.
David Hidalgo from Los Lobos!!! Great great great musician!
He remind me of HOyt Axton who I knew at Sturgis M/C rally> When he was 15 his mom sold Elvis his 1st big hit "Heart Break Hotel" & that's when Hoyt knew he'd be a song writer, things like Jerimia the bullfrog
@@rogercarmichael6653 The mention of Hoyt Axton brings one thing to my mind above all others - Della and the Dealer and a Dog Named Jake and a Cat Named Kalamazoo!!! That has been one of my favorite songs since I was little.
Thank you David Crosby for all your wonderful music and harmonies!
I dont carry much hope for the future of this planet. But in the worst of times, we need music like this. Sitting here looking at the haze from fires far away, yet the birds are singing. I hope we will all keep singing.
just when you think playing for change can't get any better then you come across this. Thank you for touching this old man's heart.
Jerry would be proud of this one. Kreutzmann looks like he's havin' a blast! Nice to see his daughter on this too.
Love how these songs are done by the World.
Hello, how are you doing today I hope you’re having a great day so far 👋👋
I've been playing guitar, singing and collecting songs ever since 1978. Ripple is the very 1st song I ever learned! It holds such a special place in my heart for that reason, but also because of its timeless beauty. Thanks to all who took part in this.
I have listened and watched "Ripple" four times and that means four times my heart has been lifted. This touches me deeply and puts me in touch with all of you gracious musicians. Accepting the gift of this song we become a unity and Good Will pours over us all like a balm. Now I know it is One World and we are all in wistful, loving, tender, fragile union. Long may it flourish.
This song fills me with joy.....tears are falling down my cheeks. I can't explain it, it touches me.
It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Incidentally, this cover was the first version I heard, and fell in love with it straight away! Thanks you lovely people for putting it together. Much love to all of you.
RIP Jimmy, David and Jerry! Thanks for the music❤❤❤
That put my heart in a beautiful place thank you thank you so much I don't think anybody can watch All of these incredibly talented musicians and not have their heart filled to overflowing with happiness
Beautiful. I have added it to my playlist for the Veterans at Southern Utah Veterans Home.
David Crosby's voice is still magnificent at age 75.
Thank you Bill Kreutzmann! Robert Hunter's lyrics here are genius :)
As Robbie said: this is the most beautiful version of a perfect song...
This is one of my favorite songs, and definitely the best on in the Singing for Change series. All of the musicians were absolutely perfect for the part they sang. If you want to get your day started with a positive note, play this song! You can't help but feel the groove and have a better day!
889 people were so high they hit the wrong button. I have a hard time believing anybody legitimately dislikes this song. Every time I hear it I get a little dopey grin and sway side to side until it's over. My wife giggles at me.
This was absolutely beautiful. I came looking for a Ripple cover, left with much more.
I wish that I was able to give this a million thumbs up - just perfect.
I cry everytime I watch this video...especially when David Crosby sings...for some reason. I was never that huge a fan of David Crosby, but seeing him in this amazing video chokes me up.
Me too, tears of joy.
Same here, such a touching performance from David C.
Grow up
This song has meant more to me than maybe any song ever has. I was driving home on a 2 hour drive when I got some bad news and that my grandfather had passed. I’ll never forget just crying for 2 hours and just listening to this song on cassette right after. Now I can’t hear it without remembering the greatest guy I knew and some 20 years later I still tear up. This version is cool and so on par for the type of person he was. Really brought some happy tears out of me today. A nice reminder I’m alive.
".....if I knew the way.... I would take you home." But the secret is... this song and ALL music IS home! Thank you Jerry, your message and beauty lives on.
This just tore me up. I'm a mess today. To the core - every time.
An absolute Gem of a Ripple, felt around the world. Thanks to all.🙋🙂⚘🙆♀️
I always get goosebumps because I'm glad they don't let music die....it is this type of music that will always be remembered by good listeners.
Thank you Crosby for appearing in this video and making me shed a tear.
Ripple is a very beautiful little song. Saw The Dead do this many times over the years but this version is simply so beautiful and sweet. It makes me tear up with happiness every time I hear it. Thank you Jerry. You and Phil and Bobby, "Pig Pen'', Mickey and Bill made the world a happier place and I'm forever Grateful to have been able to be here on the Earth when you guys were out there doing it.
Hands down my most favorite song of all time!
Crying now... just beautiful!
When I was a fledgling hippie chick in West Texas, The Bus came by and I got on. Got the Dead's first LP from a record club and became a Deadhead at first listen.
So many of Jerry's and Robert's collaborations are excellent, but "Ripple" is truly transcendent. It's my life's soundtrack and there are many days when I wake up with it playing in my head. This is one of my favorite versions. ❤
Hello, how are you doing today I hope you’re having a great day so far 👋👋
I'll bet your surname fits you... Be Well.
Took my breath away! Just how you brought all these musicians 🎶🎶🎶🎶 together! Just awesome!
I love David Hidalgo's voice ... (outstanding guitarist too)
Yep, his take was spot on.
Best American band of all time!!
heard it million times!! I simply adore when Crosby sings "then who's to guide you"! he modified the verse's melody in such a simple manner but it is so subtle and beautiful ❤
They made me cry AGAIN. These are all simply beautiful videos.
Ohhhh Ripple....this time you done left me in tears. RIPPLES AROUND THE WORLD!!!
This has moved me ever since the first time I tuned in eight years ago. Ripple speaks to us all, the living and the Dead.
My favorite Dead tune, just what we need for these chaotic times.
Godspeed Hunter, thank you for the great American songbook !
I love this song and this rendition is amazing with all the instruments
This is my favorite video on CZcams and my favorite song! I’ve definitely watched this 100 times
Newbie here I stumbled across this song sitting relaxing at my home listening to Grateful Dead❤️this song is amazing and love playing for a change added most of the songs to my playlist 🎶🤘☮️
