Hades 360 Review, Mt. Olympus Gravity Group Wood Coaster | Is it Too Rough?

- Hades 360 is the wild wood coaster at Mt. Olympus. This was the first coaster ever built by Gravity Group and it was upgraded in 2013 to include a corkscrew inversion and Timberliner trains. This is in addition to a layout that already included one of the best pre-lift sections, a giant drop, and two long underground tunnels. But is it now too rough?

A world-class coaster at a bargain-bin park. This coaster is honestly amazing; it’s just a shame it wasn’t built at a park who has the resources and wherewithal to maintain it properly.
I agree it would still be running better elsewhere.
I went to Mt. Olympus for the first time. I actually thought Zeus had more air time. Hades is faster though for sure and has crazier elements, but not much airtime after that first drop
Yeah, I guess that's what you get when your tickets are $5 per person after paying the $35 parking fee.
You can touch the trees on Pegasus, Cyclops, and Zeus. A general no-no in the coaster industry.
The water park is included and it's awesome, but there are no formal changing rooms, just regular bathrooms you have to use to change in.
They don't even enforce the no-hats policy.
The ride operators go from ride to ride in the same shifts. That is ultra-rare.
They didn't have mask mandates and they stayed open throughout 2020, which IMO is a good thing and rebellious in a good way, but perhaps not the majority general public opinion at the time even if it was my opinion.
As with all their coasters.
As a Wisconsin native who grown-up with Hades you don't have to worry about rough coasters at other parks atfer riding this over the years
True.
SLCs?
One thing you forgot to mention is how extremely loud it is in the tunnel. It's almost deafening and I'm never sure if my headache from this ride is from the loudness or the roughness.
True!
Last time I rode Hades I literally felt the same, I've ridden this coaster every other year for the last 10 years and when I went on it last summer it literally felt like Hulk as a chiropractor trying to rip my head off and turn my back into a pretzel.
I like how after the first drop, Hades, the god of the underworld, takes you into FREAKING HELL and back.
The tunnel is a wild sequence.
Literally everything at this park hurts my head
Cyclops was fine even before the retracking in my opinion.
Hades and Pegasus are the only 2 that are rough for me.
If the coasters don't do it, the go-kart fumes will.
I liked Zeus that was fine but 2015-2016 hades was peak
This is without a doubt the most underrated coaster I’ve ever ridden. I currently have it as my #5, above Maverick, Velocicoaster, and Storm Chaser just to name a few.
The layout is incredible.
Me too. #6 for me.
Such a terrific layout and pacing. I would never want this to be RMC converted but I would flat out LOVE the entire thing to be titan tracked. Honestly.
I just want it to be smooth. I agree the layout is amazing.
@@CanobieCoaster I've never been to Mt. Olympus nor rode Hades but this ride should defintely get either the RMC 208 retrack treatment or the GCI Titan Track treatment, because this ride has such an incredible layout that it has great potential to be reridable.
This with the lights off inside of its tunnel was a hostile fast roller coaster for me to marathon back in 2021
It's a tough one to marathon for sure.
I think traditional wooden coasters have a height ceiling of between 100 and 120 feet. Anything bigger and they start to tear themselves apart. If you think about it, most wooden coasters taller are either Intamin prefabs, or RMC Topper Track models. Traditional wooden coasters over that height seem to always have roughness issues.
It also comes down to the park's willingness to do maintenance. Voyage is doing fine, but Holiday World has done so much trackwork on that one.
@@CanobieCoaster I'd peg The Boss as a middle ground here. They do replace an extensive amount of boards and a good amount of track every single offseason, and early in a year it does ride significantly better than 'normal' - they even always have a couple pallets of wood on hand for spot replacements during a season. But there just isn't much time during a season for anything more than small TLC. So as the season reaches the heart of summer the roughness returns. If they replaced a larger percentage of track the way Holiday World does smoothness would definitely last longer but the park's maintenance team does try very hard to keep it from turning into a dumpster fire with the budget they're given.
All of that experience with track work carries over to the other two woodies too. American Thunder is kept in great condition and Screamin' Eagle has no need for a Racer or Beast style retrack and they always have it running well. And it doesn't batter itself into a pulp by October despite being the second most intense woodie there.
@@Danrarbc That’s very interesting. I got a ride on Boss at the end of the season in 2018 and it was unbearably rough, but I’ve heard good things about it too
I laughed when you used the term “Achilles heel” because it was thematically clever:
You're welcome.
I rode this coaster before the corkscrew was added. I didn’t find the tunnels bad then, it was the rough beginning and the return after the second tunnel. By far, one of the roughest coasters I’ve ridden, and a good reason I haven’t returned to MO in many years. Great video
Thanks!
I loved Mine Blower and this looks like it on a much larger scale. It was rough, sure, but the roughness really added to the intensity of it. Hoping I can get out here someday, Gravity Group's rides are great.
When did you ride Mine Blower? It got extremely rough this year.
As much as people like the Timberliners, they’re 100% the reason this ride has so many issues. Other than the momentum issues, the lighter trains react to track imperfections more and bounce around. I rode in 2011 and while it was bumpy, it wasn’t half as bad as it is now.
Interesting point.
I was just here over the weekend. Every ride was closed besides Zues!! No go carts or nothing… I fear this place may be on the verge of going out of business :(
I love Hades 360! Hope I get to ride again
I've heard this place can have quite a bit closed if you visit outside of peak season.
If I ask you what about the outward tunnel, Canobie Coaster would say:
As you blaze through this tunnel, you navigate a small bunny hill, bank right, head over another bunny hill, traverse a 90 degree turn to the left, and navigate a step-up. All these elements occur in rapid-fire succesion and your body is tossed about like a ragdoll. The first two bunny offer some midly sustained floater airtime. Then the sudden changes of direction offer jolts of laterals because you can't brace for them, and the step-up gives a little pop of floater airtime. However, the tunnel is...
A) the smoothest part of the ride.
B) the roughest part of the ride.
B
I absolutely love Hades 360! Rode it in 2021 and sadly did find it rough. (I also don't think Millennium Force is too tough when I rode it this year in 2023)
Millennium Force is super smooth.
I thought it was one of the best roller coasters I’ve ever ridden. Was definitely rough yes but not in a painful way for me. If anything it added to the thrill experience. Now Iron Gwazi (which honestly is the same ride except bigger/faster/more elements) is my number 1 but this still comes in at a close 2nd tied with Hulk at Universal.
I can see how some think roughness adds to an experience, but usually it's a negative for me.
i would say that Cyclops and especially Pegasus are far rougher. It felt like Pegasus was doing everything possible to snap my neck lol
Hades is definitely rougher than Zeus though. Zeus is the smoothest of the "Big Four" at Mt. Olympus
Definitely not too rough, and definitely a top 5-10 woodie. I rode it with Amanda in late May this year in the third-to-back row. Stood in long lines for all 4 woodies at Mt Olympus with her. We broke up several days later. It hurt Amanda's back a bit, but it was one of my favorites all-time.
Love the layout, but I do find it very rough.
Wow, who the hell runs a coaster that requires full trains?! This place seems pretty crazy, would still love to visit but it looks like I need to keep my expectations of the park low and get a good stretch in before riding! 🤣
I think this is a policy they have on the roller coasters at Parque De Attractiones De Madrid in Spain.
@@mitchellries256 well they're cheapskates when it comes to their rides then. It has nothing to do other than them wanting to save a little extra money at the expense of their guests time and happiness. It's a terrible business practice
It was a valley risk with the new trains and I'm sure they didn't want people to get stuck in the underground tunnel, but they fixed the camelback that was the most problematic spot.
@@CanobieCoaster understandable, they definitely should have considered this in the refurb- it's as though they just don't care. They reprofiled the one hill and basically said "hey we tried 🤷♂️"
@@mitchellries256 I was at Parque d'attraciones in 2018 and I can't remember their policy on this. I think they weren't honouring row requests. I had to let a whole train past me to fill up and get the next front row on their Intamin invert, forgot its name.
I love rough wooden coasters. I loved grizzly at kings dominion on a wheel seat. I even liked wildcat at lake compounce even after the retrack. But this being apparently more rough and at a much faster and rougher I could not marathon this. This could definitely benefit from some Titan Track.
I wouldn't do Titan track honestly. I would want for Gravity Group to do their own retracking with their new pre-cut wooden track (Racer + The Beast at Kings Island). I know they themselves can be capable of improving their rides.
It absolutely could benefit.
It needs different trains... Those Timberliners are even rough on the family coasters... They are trash!
My number 1 woodie and my second favorite coaster overall out of 61 credits. This ride truly is a masterpiece and the roughness added to the chaotic experience. I will say it is hard to marathon as after ride number 5 I started to develop a headache but it was definitely worth it
The roughness doesn't enhance the ride for me, but I love the layout.
It's also probably damaging the discs in your spine!
@@thisrollercoasterlife498 worth it
@@mariokartwii123100 Damaging your spine definitely isn't worth it.
It's an AMAZING layout that is deserving of better track throughout it. This would be less of an issue if the park had a good maintenance team - but they have the opposite of that and all of their woodies end up riding like crap.
@@Danrarbc I rode it 7 times total, I don’t think 7 rides is enough to cause damage
I know my comment is late, but I wanted to offer up my opinion on this ride. I got one ride on it last year, and that ride was in the front row. I wished I could’ve done it in the back, so this gives me a reason to go back. My opinion is exactly the same as yours. I thought the ride was absolutely fantastic in terms of the forces that it delivered. However I found myself having to brace for almost every Element because of the roughness. I agree that there is no way I could marathon it. However I can appreciate the ride for what it has to offer. If they could just retract the ride I would think of it much more highly.
If this were perfectly smooth, it would be a borderline top 5 wood coaster.
@@CanobieCoaster
Absolutely!
I have ridden renegade, which is well renowned as well, and I think if Haiti’s were smoother, it would be a better ride
Wisconsinite here who goes to the dells every year, to people who aren’t from here this park sucks but for us it’s awesome. Hades is INSANE! The tunnel is so rough but that what makes it fun! I do wish they’d build a metal coaster, they obviously have the money..
I'd love for them to retrack this.
I have a feeling upgrades are in the works. I rode this yesterday and said to my wife ":I love this coaster, but I'm okay if I never ride it again. It's just way too painful." She shared my view. However, the park has improved overall. The new water park additions were terrific and our bargain priced accommodations were actually really nice. I love the diversity of the park, both in features and in people. But a new steel coaster and a retracking of Hades 360 are going to be necessary for theme park portion to remain a draw.
I hope they give it a proper retrack. It desperately needs one.
Before the 360, i marathoned this 11 times in all different rows. This was during their October fest season back then. Got to ride this at night. It was fantastic then, too rough now. But still a good coaster
I imagine this would be a sweet night ride.
I have ridden over 100 roller coasters, including some top tier RMCs, yet that tunnel in Hades 360 was the ONLY ride that threatened to rip my glasses off. That coaster needs some serious work, one ride was enough for me
A full retrack would help immensely.
Another great review and I totally agree with what you said and I think that at the bare minimum the tunnel should get retracked but maybe the reason they didn’t do so yet is because it will be very hard to get to it. They might have to take off part of the parking lot just to get the materials down there
I don't know how they could retrack the tunnel, but it could use it.
I’ll be riding this Monday. Never rode it before and I’m super excited
Enjoy! It's rough, but the layout is amazing.
Love the aggressiveness! The tunnel is amazing!!
It's a bit of an endurance test, but it's intense.
CAN-O-BEAST!!! This one really looks brutal. It jackhammers the track in several areas. On GG's Timberliner Trains, every seat is a wheel seat. Never forget
True, but the single bench trains are set up more comfortably with regards to vibrations.
It has been the 10th anniversary since Hades got its major protein boost.
True
My biggest worry with a full conventional retrack is Mt Olympus' maintenance is dubious at best. While it would definitely help in the short term I don't have confidence that the park will replace bits of track and other components as needed over time to keep it in good condition. After all there are plenty of parks out there running older, even much older, woodies than this that have never received a large scale retrack.
I'd prefer two (or three) other retrack options. They could opt for a Gravity Group precut retrack - which is supposed to last longer than standard wood track BUT you likely still have to be proactive with maintenance with that to keep it running well. The other option could be a Titan retrack, which would IMO be best for the park given their maintenance issues. Yes there's always a 208 RetraK option too but I suspect that costs more than Titan or GG Precut.
I agree there's a good chance it doesn't stay smooth given their maintenance.
I absolutely love Hades 360! Rode it in 2020 and didn't find it rough. (I also don't think Mine Blower is too rough)
I enjoyed Mine Blower in past years (as recently as 2020), but it was brutal this past February.
People don't know the difference between rough and forceful.
But I absolutely love hades 360° with the lights off the most! Rode it in 2021 and sadly found it too rough😢
But I love hades 360° too especially with the lights off inside of its tunnel during the daytime in regular speed and rode it for the first time in 2021 and rode it for the second time in 2022 and sadly did find it too rough in 2021
Awesome review! I wish I could’ve ridden the original Hades, that would’ve been so cool! To be honest I don’t mind the roughness, I got used to it after 12 rides in one night
It got way rougher for me between 2019 and 2021.
@@CanobieCoaster and also 2020
@@CanobieCoasterbut I wanted to ride it this way
I rode this 2 weeks ago and the lights were on in the tunnel. It was definitely extremely rough but the layout was so good that it didn't bother me too much riding it with long breaks in between.
I've never had a lights on ride.
@@CanobieCoaster me either but I’ve had a lights off ride but I will keep getting them
I really like this roller coaster’s red 24-passenger timberliner train itself
It looks nice, but I heard the old trains may have run better.
About the gum filled trees - they did take all the gum off them and it looks much better but you can still tell that something was on them.
That's an improvement at least.
During the falcon’s flight roller coaster’s original full construction, announcement starting on august 2019 and opening date early 2023 and this is the roller coaster for me to marathon over, over and over by taking long breaks, medium breaks and short breaks from it while it’s tunnel is pitch black
Falcon’s Flight may open next year.
Great review! Really captured the feel and attitude of this Beast. "IT" will tempt even the most daring not to attempt for the wickedness of the 7 of 10. even the rise of the stairs will weed out many G.P. but hearing the chain slack smack of the lift, like loosing a chain off your bar on a saw. Will have those that question there fates will redact our the queue!
That chain smack!
@@CanobieCoaster is that good
This is an excellent video...Well done fella! 💯🙏
Thanks!
I can't complain too much since I usually always go to Mt. Olympus by myself so as a single rider, I'm always asked to jump in and cut a bunch of annoyed looking people in line lmao
if you're in a group, i recommend hitting up Hades 360 as soon as you get to the park...as early as possible. Once it gets to around Noon on a weekend, it can get crazy busy and Hades being super close to the entrance is going to get a super full line
Definitely makes sense to hit this early since it's the longest line most days.
I hand built working model roller coasters. I built track & trains. Most "steelies" make their own trains. A few "woodies" made their trains, but usually went to a train manufacturer with specs. I'm sure Hades NEEDS to be re-profiled, but I also think the lighter trains "hunt" (Trying to find the tracks center line) My models would "hunt" a bit after they'd been on a 200 + mile travel on a trailer. It was sort of easy to straighten it out though. Hunting also tends to slow down a coaster as energy is wasted. Not sure If "weighting" the wheeled cars would help? While coasters are computer designed, there is still art + a little black magic that makes them tick. I too, was alarmed by chain snap. Why, no NO nylon roller there or better tensioner? This will surely wear the chain. Chains ain't cheap. It's either a Reinhold or Whitney chain. I bought Reinhold's (10' per chain) The most I ever used on a coaster was 30 feet!
It always fascinates me when manufacturers retrofit rides they didn't build. At least Gravity Group did the track and trains here.
What an insane monster. It doesn't have the best airtime but it has so much. This thing is a powerhouse fro mstart to finish, literally start to finish cause it has probably the single best pre lift on any coaster with 4 airtime moments, on the pre flift. The drop isn't crazy buts its big and has good views, the trains are fantastic timberliners. The tunnels are just unbelievable on this thing as you can't see crap down there and it has 2, and they go all the way across the parking lot. This my be rough but it absolutely ads to the intensity. If it was smoother, I actually don't think I would like it as much as the roughness makes this thing feel out of control and that's what makes it special. That's how a lot of Gravity groups are and I think this shows it the best. Also a very long ride. Hades may be hard to marathon for some people but I absolutely love this thing. This is what started Gravity Group and it sure is history.
I just wish it was smoother for my tastes.
For me, yes it was unbearably rough. Top 5 roughest woodie for sure. I'd love to give it another go, but not holding out hope it'll be better. I wish I could've enjoyed the airtime it had, but I was too focused on the jackhammering.
I hope they fix it.
Avoid Voyage too then. Avoid Mineblower as well. They will be too much for you.
@@gametime2473 Voyage is pretty smooth considering how aggressive that layout is and how well Holiday World has maintained it. I haven't done Mine Blower yet, but I've heard horror stories.
But I was brutally focused on that jackhammering while having that mythical long overbanked turn on august 15, 2021👿💪🏼🤘🏼🔥
In 2021 enjoying this pitch black tunneled ride and feeling the g-forces from it hurts
It's an intense ride.
This ride is in much better shape then Mineblower was on my last visit to be honest.
Mine Blower was brutal last year.
I rode this only in 2019. The roughness was on the edge of what I could tolerate. Visiting on Tue-Wed, the line was always around 20 minutes, which was just enough time to recover, although because of the full-train rule, I did get a couple rerides, because they needed someone to stay on. This makes my overall top 25 with that experience. Hearing your review, I don't think I would like this ride nearly as much now. Something needs to be done to fix this, because that layout is far too good, unique, and interesting.
It makes me wonder if the Timberliner trains could be part of the problem. The Gravity Group coasters that I've ridden with PTC trains run so much better, and they are my favorite 3 from the company. Mine Blower is unbearably rough now, and I have dropped it a lot in my rankings. Even Oscars Wacky Taxi & Kentucky Flyer have had some mildly rough spots in my experience.
I think you're onto something. In my opinion, PTCs run better than Timberliners AND Millennium Flyers in terms of rider comfort (not talking about the ergonomics, but their ability to absorb vibrations with the heavier chassis and wooden passenger compartment). They may be worse for the track over time; that part is likely true. The fact that Holiday World kept trying Timberliners on Voyage and never made the switch tells us something. I suspect they just had to admit they rode worse than the PTCs.
I think it also comes down to park maintenance. Holiday World, Waldameer, and Kemah are three of the most proactive parks when it comes to taking care of their wood coasters.
But I only rode this only in 2021 and 2022
I don't get how the biggest drop of any wooden coaster with singe bench trains (with the possible exception of Python in Bamboo Forest in China) is rougher than wooden coasters with bigger drops with non single bench trains. But I guess Hades 360 is rough! It's kind of a bucket list coaster for me, but not as much as 1: some of the coasters I've ridden; 2: Some of the coasters I plan to ride from May 29th though June 9th this year, 3: The Voyage, Fury 325 and Velocicoaster. Thanks for posting!
Enjoy!
So many people want this (and Mine Blower) to be retracked by GCI's Titan Track or RMC. But if anyone should do it, it should be Gravity Group themselves, since they recently introduced a smoother pre-cut track. Plus, it'll be easier maintenance-wise (since they only need Gravity Group for the entire coaster).
I don't care who retracks it as long as it's done.
Canobie Coaster would say:
When you enter ride's queue line, you may have noticed a sign warning you that Hades 360 was quote on quote "riding aggresive today". Aggresive is an understatement. In Hades 360's inaugural year, it precipitously plummeted in coaster polls. In the Mitch Hawker poll, Hades went from a top 20 ride in 2012 to a bottom 10 ride in 2013.
Was the corkscrew that bad? No, that's actually one of the smoothest parts of the ride.
Were the trains bad? They may have taken the layout more slowly, but they were more comfortable and the ride still had plenty of power.
So what was the problem?
The trackwork is bad.
I went to Olympus this weekend and I think is a good park for the price, I mean you have like 3 or 4 roller coasters and water parks. Hades 360 was a crazy experience, I agreed with the politic of the staff and the way that they work is bad, because you missing time waiting without reason 😮💨. But yeah I think hades 360 has a 8/10.
It's hard to argue with this park's price.
I think this would be a very high gear coaster if it weren’t for the roughness. I’ve rode hades 360 about 8 times and I loved it. Although it is rough, it has an insane layout and is awesome overall.
I pray they retrack it.
@@CanobieCoaster Same. it would be elite
I honestly wish there was a company that would buy this park. I feel like Gene staples or Herschend would make this park so much better.
It would be great if anyone retracked this.
What is rougher, Hades 360 or American Eagle at Six Flags Great America? The Eagle is pretty rough these days. Looking to possibly head up to Mt Olympus this summer, just curious how this roughness stacks up with a ride I'm more familiar with.
Hades 360 easily.
I love this coaster so much
Nice!
What are your thoughts on Titan Track for the rough spots? I know that might be logistically difficult (though doable) in the tunnels.
I also wonder what Titan Track on a Gravity Group would mean for the park in terms of ride maintenance for the GCI sections vs Gravity Group section. If RMC converts a coaster then they become the go to for maintenance assistance or updates (depending on the sale and contract.) When GCI retracked Ghostrider they became the commercial partner for that coaster (especially in light of CCI being defunct.) But would Gravity Group be responsible for any contractual obligations on a coaster that now bares sections of GCI Titan Track?
I'd love seeing Titan track here. Not sure how that works for future maintenance though.
@Arrow Dynamics Inc. yes but sometimes companies will only guarantee a product if they have an exclusive maintenance contract. For example, it used to be the case that a car company could say that your car warranty was void if you had it fixed by a shop that wasn't owned by the manufacturer. That only recently changed by federal intervention. I wouldn't be surprised if most coaster manufacturers had similar contracts for coaster maintenance and repair. S&S honors the contracts that they bought out from Arrow when Arrow closed.
It would be interesting to see how something like Titan Track would affect coasters built by manufactuters other than GCI if the park had an existing contract with the prior manufacturer.
@@CanobieCoaster The cleanest thing contractually would be to use the new Gravity Group precut track on here.
My biggest worry though is the park just plain doesn't do track maintenance so I'd worry about them getting more wood track - even that track is supposed to last longer. At the same time we don't know how Titan track holds up over time so maybe there's still a problem there.
I'd probably trust the long term reliability of 208 RetraK in this park's hands the most - but it's also probably well outside their price range.
Canobie Coaster would say:
Hades 360 is an insane wooden roller coaster at Mt. Olympus. Rough
This looks like it would be one of if not the world's most out of control feeling coasters between the intense layout and roughness.
Sure is.
A few years ago, they retracked Zeus. Last year it was Cyclops. Here's to thinking this year will be hades.
I'm praying that's one of the rides getting the titan track that's unaccounted for.

this is my *favorite coaster* but i can only ride it like 5 times max in a day so yeah 10/10 layout but retrack would be niceeee. but i kinda like the roughness in the tunnel it adds to the intensity
I want this thing smooth.
I think my first rides were either in 08 or 09, it was rough, but tolerable then. And it kept getting worse. I was actually on the first public train for the 360 revamp. The ride was about 60-70% retracked. The parts that were retracked were very smooth--making the sections that weren't extremely noticable. And it kept getting worse from there. It's been since 2015 I think since I rode it. I plan on making it back to the park this year--not really looking forward to pain. I love the ride's layout--it just needs Knoebel's levels of maintenance or something drastic for people to see how great this ride can be. Unfortunately, the park would rather buy more hotels than maintain their star attractions.
I hope they do some retracking on this soon.
Hades360 needs RMC topper track. That would likely smooth it out
I wish!
sadly i don't think Mt. Olympus wants to put in the time and money to invest in remodeling Hades, especially with RMC treatment...although I could be wrong because they did introduce the Medusa Slidewheel
This would be amazing with a full re-tracking and some new titan track!
Absolutely!
Hades 360° with the lighter red timberliner train with 24 seatbelts on the sides of all of its 24 black lap bars on its track and a double down on its chain lift hill was a frustrating attraction for me to experience in 2021
I pray this ride gets trackwork soon.

It's nuts.
i rode it before the corkscrew was added. i enjoyed the original version but not the original restraints. i thought i was going to fall out as i couldn't get the lap bar tight enough to properly secure me and the person i rode with literally made sure i didn't fall out. i haven't ridden it again because i am afraid of the new restraints wouldn't secure me well enough to go upside down. The ride experience was a little rough but not too bad when i went 2012.
It's way rougher now by most accounts.
the Pantheon shade lol
I had to.
In your video of Coaster Express at Parque Warner Madrid (world's worst roller coaster!) review, there was a quote about wooden coasters often considered as rough, that said:
Hades 360? Amazing
Predator and Zeus? Great
Grizzly, Wilde Beast and Mighty Canadian Minebuster? Not good but smooth enough
Bandit? Bumpy but ridable
but I finally hit my limit with Coaster Express.
What do you think about both Hades 360 and Coaster Express in roughness?
Both are very rough, but Coaster Express is rougher with a worse layout.
One of my biggest bucket list coasters left in the USA. I do like a few rougher woodies in Grizzly (KD), American Eagle (SFGAm), Great American Scream Machine, but I must admit I was mixed on Mine Blower so I figure this ride is like Mine Blower times 10. Just how much rougher is this thing than some of those coasters?
I got my first rides on Mine Blower & Hades in 2019, and I would say that Hades was a little bit rougher, but both were barely tolerable for me. Now, on my late 2021 & early 2022 rides on Mine Blower, that thing is horribly rough, and I cannot even tolerate it anymore. I rode American Eagle on the same trip as riding Hades in 2019, and Hades was easily rougher. My Great American Scream Machine rides in late 2020 didn't feel that rough to me. Grizzly (KD) in 2021 was barely beyond what I could handle.
Hades 360 is currently comparable to 2022 Mine Blower, but it's a longer ride.
In your video of Coaster Express at Parque Warner Madrid (world's worst roller coaster!) review, there was a quote about wooden coasters often considered as rough. The quote said:
Hades 360? Amazing
Predator and Zeus? Great
Grizzly, Wilde Beast, and Mighty Canadian Minebuster? Not good but smooth enough
Bandit? Bumpy but ridable
but I finally hit my limit with Coaster Express.
How do you think about Hades 360, Wilde Beast, and Coaster Express, rough, tolerable, or painful?
Coaster Express and Hades 360 are very rough, but Coaster Express is worse. Wilde Beast is bumpy but not as bad as those two.
Imagine, what do you think about Ednör L' Attaque at La Ronde and Hades 360 at Mt Olympus in roughness, layout, tolerable, and restraints?
Hades 360 has better restraints (lap bars). Both are rough. Hades shakes you. Ednor has lots of headbanging with the over the shoulder restraints.
Honestly I like that the tunnels are rough because it makes an already crazy experience much crazier, but I would be fine with the rest of the ride being smoother
I don't think rough tunnels are a positive. The elements in there are wild enough on their own.
Which did you find rougher? Hades 360 or Mine Blower?
Hades 360. Mine Blower was running really shaky in 2022, but that one isn't nearly as long of a ride and you also can see the entire layout.
@@CanobieCoaster I rode Mine Blower in June of 2021 in the front row, and it was by far the roughest and overall worst coaster I’ve ridden since I can’t do roughness
When I first rode hades 360° in 2021 and I encountered the world’s 2nd roughest wooden roller coaster behind son of beast at kings island
Never rode Son of Beast, but I heard that was brutal
When I rode this in 2008, it was favorite wooden roller coaster anywhere. Now I am starting to wonder if turning this into Hades 360 was a mistake. I hope this ride was given or will be given severe track work by the time I visit there this summer.
I don't think the 360 part is the problem. It's the lack of trackwork.
Finally rode it. Once. My goodness it killed me. What was I thinking. Just re do the ENTIRE thing with the new pre cut track or RMC ibox it or something. It was actually so sad being there and seeing and experiencing this MASTERFUL attraction being run into the ground. I can tell anyone reading this commend, no matter how good the layout and pacing are, it is NOT WORTH IT. Plan your trip to go to Holiday World and ride Voyage instead, seriously. 7/10 is way too high to me, I give it a 1/10. Literally a one, I hated it that much.
If this was GCI retracked, GCI titan retracked, Gravity Group pre cut re tracked or RMC steel i-box retracked, it would be a 10/10 for me and a worldwide top 5 woodie (if GCI retracked or GG pre cut tracked), and a top 25 steel/hybrid for me if one of the other options was used. I think the best way to go is the pre cut track TBH, but they'll never do it. It's sad!
It's absolutely brutal but I appreciate the layout. I pray it one day gets a full retrack so I don't have to grab Advil after.
@@CanobieCoaster It won't happen Mike, they are letting the coaster tear itself apart till it's nigh on unsalvageable. The exact same thing would happen to Voyage if Holiday World wasn't incessantly retracking a chunk of it every year, and tbh they should just go pre cut and be done with it also as although it's supremely enjoyable, it's not exactly smooth (but nothing like H 360).
I believe Leviathan in OZ will be this bad by 2026 but time will tell.
What do you think about the rides on:
Hades 360 at Mt. Olympus
Zeus at Mt. Olympus
Grizzly at California's Great America
Wilde Beast at Canada's Wonderland
Batman the Ride at Six Flags Great America
Bandit at Movie Park Germany
Timber Terror at Silverwood
Medusa at Six Flags Great Adventure
Thunderhawk at Dorney Park
Goliath at Six Flags Great America
Goliath at Six Flags New England
Boardwalk Bullet at Kemah Boardwalk
Like some, hate others.
I don't know which coaster I love more. Hades 360 or The Voyage at Holiday World.
I much prefer Voyage.
@CanobieCoaster I agree since it is longer. I just hate MCBR. I know they are necessary for some coasters, but I still don't like them.

Why did you say Hades 360 amazing despite being a very rough ride?
Which Grizzly did you refer, Kings Dominion or California's Great America?
Great America's
I’m glad that I rode this rough ride for the first time in 2021 accidentally
It's very rough unfortunately.
What do you think about the experience on Hades 360 at Mt. Olympus in 2019 or before?
It's a very rough ride.
The roughest wooden coaster for you was Hades 360 at Mt. Olympus?
It's up there, but Coaster Express is worse.
In 2021
I feel either Titan Track or Topper Track would work best for the underground sections. Sidebar: I never understood the purpose of having the brake run so high, especially if they only have one train to cycle.
I agree either of those tracks should help.
When people first started riding son of beast at kings island and they encountered the roughest wooden roller coaster on the planet
I've heard it was bad.
Hey Canobie I just thought of this but if gravity group wanted to keep the layout really smooth they could put their new Titan track on it
GCI has the titan track, but I think Gravity Group has a pre-fab track option.
@@CanobieCoaster oh I got confused there I meant GCI
I can look past the roughness because it has one of the best layouts of all time it would probably rank in my top 10 if it wasn't so rough
The layout is incredible.
The Greek God of Tunnels
Yes
This ride looks like it could be a top ten coaster in the united states if it got a Ghostrider level retracking ngl.
It could!
IMO worse than the roughness in the tunnels is how loud it is. It’s absolutely eardrum shattering in there, I kept coming off the coaster with my ears ringing like crazy
The roughness bothers me more.
@@CanobieCoaster but I bothered me in 2021😢
I wish great adventure my home park would get this
It would be cool.
So hades has NOT had an RMC conversion?? It sure looks like it has. Isn’t I-box track the only way to get a woodie to go upside down?
Gravity Group has put inversions on conventional wood coasters.
In 2021 hades 360° with the lights off inside of its tunnel was a hostile fast roller coaster
Yes it is.
Waldameer should have GG come in and redo the road crossing on RFII to be a barrel roll like this one has
The bunny hills on the road crossing are one of the ride's best spots already in my opinion.
On august 15, 2021 this fast-feeling ride gave my brain g-forces
It's intense.
This coaster is fun and I didn't find it rough personally when I went, I went in 2019 maybe when you went it was a little rough
It was smoother in 2019 than 2021.
Millennium force felt this way when I rode it for the second time in 2023
@CanobieCoaster ik this is a year later but now it's so brutally rough in 2023
I like both rough and smooth coasters, and you?
Like both
Prefer smooth
Prefer rough
Prefer smooth
A case of elite layout and forces but so rough it just brings it down a notch. Still a good woodie though if you’re willing to fight.
I prefer to be able to straight up enjoy a ride myself.
@@CanobieCoaster same.
Hades 360 is awesome. I haven't ridden it in a few years so can't say how it is now but it is one of the best wood coasters I have been on and I have been on over 600 coasters. Ride it at night. I think people mistake forcefulness with roughness on this ride. The roughest part is the part before the lift hill. After that it was really smooth but it will throw you around violently in the dark I am going to give you a tip for "rough" coasters. You don't brace yourself, you relax and let it throw you around. You are trying to fight physics and you will lose. If you just go with it, you will have a much more enjoyable time. This advice does not apply to jackhammering though. In that case, get your butt off the seat.
My 2021 rides had severe jackhammering. The coaster was shaky in 2019, but borderline painful in 2021.
@@CanobieCoaster That's unfortunate. Hopefully they'll do some retracking soon
It was hard for me to try to start to attempt to tolerate this roller coaster’s roughness for the first time on august 15, 2021
It's an aggressively brutal ride.
