    If I were a young person, I 'd give this a hard look. When I served in the Navy 68 years ago, probably nobody would have guessed there'd ever be such a branch of the military. I was serving when the USSR launched Sputnik, the very first satellite. Amazing what has transpired since then! Good luck to the new agency and its people!

    Thanks for the information, it really gave me an idea of what this career field has to offer. Now that you are retired (Congratulations and thank you for your service) how is the job market post military?

    • @jrobion
      @jrobion  Před 2 lety +3

      Hello and thanks for the comment. The job market for a space professional is great if you are living in the Denver or Colorado Springs area. There are a few other metro areas around the country where a former space officer can easily get a job paying very well (6 figures). Where I chose to retire doesn't really have space jobs. I am teaching at a local high school currently. With an officer's military retirement I don't really need to work, but I enjoy teaching.

    Seemed helpful.
    What about the fact that the military needs so many skilled people to fill the ranks of the newly minted space force, are there are speedy enlistment program for qualified immigrants to get in?

    • @jrobion
      @jrobion  Před 2 lety +1

      No, in fact there are very few direct enlistments into the USSF. Most of the skilled manpower was already there in the USAF doing the exact same job. They have simply transferred to the new service. USSF is just doing a mission that the USAF was already doing. The USSF is also taking transfers from other branches. They are not having a hard time filling their positions, the Army on the other hand is struggling more.
      Also, you don’t really need to have any skills to join since the USSF will teach you all you need to know. You need to have the intelligence and capability to learn new concepts. Then you start off on the front line operator and rise up the ranks with more responsibility.

    I hear the age limit is 39. 35 right now and expect to finish my bachelors in the next 2 years. Prior service. You wouldn’t happen to know if my RE code would make any difference for commissioning as an officer?

    • @jrobion
      @jrobion  Před rokem +1

      I’m not an expert on all the RE codes. From what I’ve seen in ROTC, you just need to be honorably discharged with no medical issues and you can commission.

  • @adscript4713

    How would a 39 year old (turning 40 in December) go about joining the Space Force as an officer without a stem background? Is it even possible, and if not would it make sense to go the enlistment route for someone with a Masters?

    • @jrobion
      @jrobion  Před 11 měsíci

      You should talk to an Air Force recruiter for the most up to date information. I would say it would be best to enlist since the age cut off to join is 39. You might be able to get a waiver, but the process for OTS is much longer than the process to enlist. You can enlist in the space force without a stem degree since there are a variety of jobs in the Space Force. The issue is the Space Force is very small right now. The Air Force might be a better option. Once you enlist you can start working on your OTS package and hopefully move from the enlisted side to the officer side in a couple years. That way you are already in and the age limit won’t matter.
