TOUGHEST JOB OF THE YEAR SO FAR! Pressure washing & Soft Washing 320 m2 Of SUDS Block Paving

Welcome everyone. This is a job we completed a couple of weeks back, and it was definitely the hardest job of the season so far. We had two days to get this completed. Using our 21 litre per minute Honda pressure washer, getting the job finished within two days was always going to be a challenge, as that power and flow is great and perfectly okay for an average size driveway (up to 100 m2) but we're always going to struggle with time, as it's just too slow for an area this size.
Anyway, we managed to pressure wash, soft wash, then re-grit the entire area of concrete block permeable paving (CBPP), including kerbs within time, and the 3 owners of the properties that maintain the private driveway were over the moon with the results. .

Nothing more satisfying then pressure washing something to see it come back to life.
Hi Michael, thanks for the great comment. 👍🙂.
I cannot believe with how beautiful that driveway turned out, they wouldn't go all out and get the sidewalks done?!?!?!? Baffling. Great job. Thanks for sharing.
Once again, straightforward explanation about this massive job!! Excellent video young man, informative and great to watch!! Be well, look forward to the next one!!
Huge thank you Sandi, such a lovely person 🤗
I'm knackered just watching you mate! Well done.👏
Hey William, lol, thanks mate, yeah it was knackering pushing that grit along, glad it wasn't booked for these last few days of hot weather we've been having, then i would have been 🥵🥵🥵. Thanks again 👍.
There's something thereputic about watching you spray the whole area with soap. Great job! I love to see people enjoy and take pride in their work. Again, great job!
Hi Sam, quite a few people say the same about the foam 🙂. Huge thanks for your kind words, it's much appreciated 😊👍
This video made my day! SO MUCH SUDS! Loved it!
Yay, really glad you enjoyed it Lakshmi, I hoped you might. 😊😊
What a great driveway.....and what a great job you did....So much better....Great video...always make these...Just watched 19 minutes of driveway cleaning...and loved it all.........Superb work...
Wow, thanks Douglas, I think most people flick through the video, only watching parts of it, so hugely appreciate you watching the whole thing, and giving such great feedback too, cheers buddy 😊🙂👍👍.
And I thought cleaning my brick path to the front door was a big job! Watching this all the way through left me exhausted. Considering the time, knowledge, skill, labor and equipment, I'm sure you earned what they paid you.
Hi Bob, this was quite a lot bigger than I would normally do that's for sure. Big thanks for watching all the way through. Thank you for your kind words too bob, they're much appreciated 😊.
Wow, that was huge! Great job 👏
Thanks Mishka, you're very kind 👍🙂
Have to agree with you, one of the hardest jobs weeding it out, but then pressure washing it of and seeing it clean makes the first stage of the job rewarding, now just to do a few repairs to do. Once dry the original red colour starts to come through from under all the dirt the PW removes. Next stage is to brush in the sand and then seal it. Once done I'm hoping it'll remain wed free for the remainder of the summer!!! Now there's hoping??????
Hi v jary, thanks buddy. It sounds like you had a lot of work to deal with. When you've been as thorough as you've said, it'll be all good. It should stay clean and weed free for the summer for sure, probably longer. Great going 👌👍👍.
Well that was a fabulous watch..no job too big or small..you smashed it...keep up the good work your videos just get better better...enjoy the weekend 😀😃👌
Hey Angie, huge thanks 😊, my videos may be getting better because I get good advise from people like yourself. Massively value your input and support. Enjoy your weekend too 🙂. Nick.
Oh, hey, a fresh video! Stumbled upon this in the power washing rabbit hole
Frankly that whole driveway just seems ridiculous but good work so far!
Thanks F1sh98, appreciate that 👍
Once again excellent work I have to admire you that you do not let anything bother you less speed more haste 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much Jane, what lovely compliments you've given me ❤️🥰☺️
Just in time before the rain. Good job.
You know you are good at what you do when you obtain contracts like this. Destructive reconstruction at its best! A monster job broken down into nice bite size pieces, good work 👏🏻
Hey Graham, what a lovely compliment, you're very kind. Glad you enjoyed the video, top bloke 👍👍🙂.
Top job Nick. Very informative which is very helpful 👍 keep it up mate.
Cheers Steve, It's always nice to hear when a video helps someone out, great stuff, thanks again mate 👍🙂
Wow! Owners must be so pleased 😀
Hi Denise, many thanks for the great comment, they seemed very pleased. One got me back to clean their private driveway, which was a good sign 😁.
Outstanding job. Huge job for one man.
Cheers Crystal Clear, she was a beast alright. Tried to get one of my casual part timers to help, but no one was available - I was gutted 😕
OMG that's why leave this for the professionals nice job.❤
You are a very hard dedicated worker I wish you much success.
I've done a lot of pressure washing in my day (retired) and that's a pretty big job. Brick paving is nice but because of the maintenance requirements a lot of people here (BC Canada) have opted for poured concrete that is dyed and rolled with whatever pattern they want. Looks just the same, doesn't need weeding/weed controlling, resanding/gritting or much of any care after the pour if it is also sealed. After some years it can usually do with a pressure wash/reseal and it's good for maybe another decade.
Yeah we have that here in the UK too, it's not especially common though. It's called pattern imprinted concrete, and it's sealed with various colours. Doesn't look too good when it's worn, but as you said, when it's cleaned and re-sealed it comes up lovely again. 👍.
Mammoth job. Well done!
Looks great!
👍🏻
Thanks a lot 👍, much appreciated 🙂🙂.
Lovely job and video for the portfolio, True professional knowing that It couldn't be sanded. Great Job on the filming and editing Nick going above and beyond mate!

Nice one buddy 👍, that was a tough one, but a good earner, that's for sure 👌
I’ve got a private drive to clean that is 650m with the same pressure washer you are using, looking forward to the challenge!
Heads up to Luke Cannon, great idea about cutting out the bottom of a bucket to put in a bag to keep the top open!
I had to laugh as at first when you said bucket I remember the METAL buckets we use to use and thought cut it out
with a can opener?!? Then I thought, oh, he must mean the old oak wood slat buckets!
FINALLY after 2 seconds I remembered they're now PLASTIC buckets lol.

I priced for a van mounted system. Way too expensive, but It would have been lovely. After watching Bournemouth jet washing set up got me envious. Luckily we don't have too many 300 sq metre drive ways over in good old NI so my 21lmp will just have to do.....for now. Great job BTW. There's harder ways to earn good money 👍👍
Thanks mate. Yeah, buying it in one go is a big investment, i've been buying it bit by bit and storing it away. I'm half way there, just another few months, and I should be there with any luck. I won't be selling on the Honda either bud, bloody amazing machine, will be kept as a back up, or if I need to bring another man in for a job and use two machines. Thanks again Matthew, 🙂👍.
The bevels on those bricks are adored by moss
Bloody lovely job buddy! Don't think I've ever seen one of those drives, maybe I've just not noticed. Definitely haven't had to clean one! 👍
Cheers Rich, they're not that common mate, although I think they've increased in popularity in the last few years. No drainage channels is a good indication that it could be SUDS. I think i've cleaned maybe 5-6 over the last 10 years. I nearly got caught out the first time I saw one. I wondered why the blocks were a funny shape, it was only after doing a google search that I realised this method even existed 😆😉
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning I'll keep my eyes peeled then buddy. Either way, cracking job carried out in as logical and time/labour saving way as possible IMHO mate! 👍😁

I pressure washed a deck before staining and it mained my mind and body feel like mush but it was so fun watching the stain come off it would be a hard job but im guessing the pay is worth it
Nice job (Pat on the back) Could you pretreat the driveway with Iron Sulphate before cleaning to kill off the moss spores and lichen to help prevent future reforming of the moss. 👍
Hi Richard, thanks very much, pat on the back much appreciated 👍. I wouldn't advise treating any hard surface with iron sulphate. Years ago, one of my customers did the same and it stained her blocks orange, it's still there to this day, despite numerous attempts by me to clean it off.
Hats of that’s a big area to get done in one shot
Hey pal, love your work. Tip for your bagging up though - cut the bottom out of an old bucket and slip inside, so you won't have to hold it open 😉
That's a great tip, will definitely give that a try, cheers Luke .

No problem my friend, sussed it a while ago on a gardening job. Made things alot easier while holding a shovel lol

I was doing this for a few summers some years back. Started with only small low powered washer. When i upgraded the power was too much and tended to skim over, As well as double the water use. i was also surrounded by floods and had to squeegee more away. More work. More power not always best i don't think. I was not lucky enough to have that machine though and it took me a lot longer. What you did here would i guess about 3 or 4 days. Then having to return to sand weather permitting. I never used hot water either. I find it strips the texture out of the brick. After numerous times they start looking tired and old. as well as hot water penetrating under the bricks that cause the drive way to have dips eventually. Perhaps the grit is much better, But i never used that. But boy i was knacked by the end of the day. I got screwed once also. I quoted on small drive, But a learning process for me was that the bricks had no edges and didn't close together the same. Took me double the sand and took a hell of a lot longer to do for what i quoted and it hurt.
Thanks for sharing 👍 all the best 🙂
done well sir needed 2 people
Thats a great job bet your shoulders were aching after that one.
Thanks Rob 🙂👍. Yeah pushing that grit along is little bit harder than pushing sand. They come in 25kg bags like the sand does, but it's stored outside, so it's always damp when opening the bag, so slightly heavier, it made me sweat that's for sure 😁
Love to see a video on how to quote a job like this
Great work Nick .I hope best of luck for you . I don't know the role of grit .Please can you give shortly explaining ?
Well you do a great job, that's why we have you back! ... (Our house) 👍
HI Boswell family 🙂, great people to work for. Thanks for the excellent compliment, all the best, Nick.
My god it was filthy! (Was it near a railway or something?) brilliant job though mate 👍
That’s a beast of a driveway!! Interesting info about the non use of kiln dried sand between the blocks. Never knew there was an alternative to that. Looking forward to seeing your new machine in action mate. You deserve it. Nearly at 2K subs, keep it going 👊🏻💥
Hey Neil, thanks a lot mate, top guy 👍. Yeah the SUDS paving's not very common, it's used more and more these days though, sometimes it's hard to tell by looking at the gaps/joints if they're full of moss, so a good indicator is if there's no drainage channels, then a scrape at the joints with a key will tell you for sure 👍.
Looking forward to my my new machine too mate, it's been a long time coming if i'm honest. Yeah really pleased with the direction my channel's heading at the moment, just hope it lasts. Thanks again mate, always love to hear your comments 👌👍.
I tend to rinse after doing a good sized patch to avoid missing spots and to avoid resettling of crap into the joints.
👍
Great video thanks for sharing...I am in the middle of cleaning my block paving...what soap/cleaner did you use at the end of cleaning process?

Never done one of these drives, does much come out, do you need to replace much and do they not damage your fsc, I moved from Honda 21lpm/200bar to briggs 25lpm/300bar, what a difference.
I love your videos, but I have to skip the parts filmed with your go pro because it gives me such terrible motion sickness. You’re amazing and your work is beautiful!
So your main reason for using grit,is for drainage, plus it doesn't matter if its raining or not you can still work away with it.. good job 👍
Cheers Ryan 👍 , but I should point out that i didn't choose to use grit over sand, it was what was already there, I just replaced what I took out during the cleaning process. This particular type of block paving requires grit in the joints, not sand. 🙂👍
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning - i just got my pathway done round my house, and I was told to use sand, and to be fair the whole way round my house is perfect, bar the part at the front, which a puddle appears if there is heavy rain, the fella who laid it told me it was cos if the drop in my tarred driveway 🤷♂️ so if I was to use grit just at that part, would it solve my issues? Cheers for any info 👍
@@ryanhunter2730 Grit won't fit in-between block pavers meant for sand if it's been laid properly, permeable block paving that is designed for grit is a slightly different shape (the blocks that is) with wider gaps between the joints to allow for the grit. 👍
@@PrestigeExternalCleaning - ah yes fair enough, that now makes sense, cheers for the reply and keep up the good work 👍
Beautiful vid, very enjoyable and even ASMR quality, especially the soaping stage.
Can I ask what soft wash treatment did you use, ie what chemicals?
Also do you recommend sealing after of leaving as nature intended?
Thanks Abuhamza 👍.I used sodium hypochlorite with added surfactant. I stopped offering sealing years ago, personally feel it's a bit of a waste of time 👍

Great video. I usually put down polymeric sand once the pavers are dry. What’s your sand called? Paver grit sand? I may look into it. Can you seal the pavers after sweeping the grit into the gaps? Thanks.
Hi, on 99% of block paving jobs we do, we re-sand. This is a special type of block paving shown here www.pavingexpert.com/permeable04
This job required 2-6mm granite. The granite is for drainage, as there will be no traditional drainage channels, so it can't be sealed, as that would stop the water draining through the grit/granite. 👍
Hi, great video, what surfactant do you use with the hypo? Cheers Rob
Hi Rob, thanks a lot, I use this www.bonnymans.co.uk/product-page/lauryl-dimethylamine-oxide-ammonyx-lo 👍.
TY for the video! Did you get contracts from the home owners whose driveways look all the worse in comparison with the cleaned road?
Thanks 👍. Yes, it was those home owners that paid for the road to be cleaned, one of them has already hired me to clean theirs.
Hopefully it was also the most profitable job of the year so far :-) Bet you were a bit apprehensive quoting for it. Was it for a single custy or a group clubbing together? Great job, not seen re gritting before.
Hey Ched mate, it was a good earner for a couple of days work that's for sure. I've cleaned a few of these SUDS driveways before, the only hassle with them is having to order the grit and have it delivered, and making sure someone is there to take delivery as it's not readily available in most builders merchants to go and pick up.
It was 3 custy's clubbing together mate. I've worked for all 3 individually before, cleaning their personal drives, patios, decking and gutters. Cheers mate, Nick.
Great video mate, so satisfying! I have this type of monoblock, can’t seem to find the grit anywhere, do you mind if I ask where you get it?
Hi Andrew, thanks for the great feedback 🙂. I buy it in bulk, and that's the only way it's sold, from where I get it from, which probably wouldn't be much use to you. This isn't granite, but it's the same size and shape washed grit, and will work just as well

Great job, looks like x-jet works amazing. Do you have to reduce pressure when u doing soft wash with x-jet?
Hi Roland, thanks very much. Yes, pressure is turned to it's lowest setting when using the X-Jet 👍.
Great job
What was the stuff you sprayed on then washed off.. I see you were wearing a mask with it..
And is it safe to wash down the road drainage
Great looking finish to be fair
@@daipigeon7561 Thanks 👍. It's sodium hypochlorite. It's fine to go into drainage, it then gets treated by one of the 7 water companies in England & Wales. Sodium hypochlorite is one of the chemical these companies use to treat the water, so no problem there.

How do you get your hypo mix to foam like that? Mine comes out quite watery at 4:1 mix with the x-jet?

Jesus well done nick that’s is a big job for one man with great results 👍👍
Hey Jason, yeah she was a biggun alright. Cheers buddy, always appreciate your feedback 🙂👍.
That paving certainly has a drainage problem. Perhaps the base is waterlogged, or perhaps more likely the small gaps have become plugged and it no longer drains. Did it show signs of standing water before you began?
What did you do after lunch ? Cracking job you earned your corn my friend .
What kind of machine did you use for the soft scrubbing?
Bro, you are my biggest inspiration,I swear!! I'm hoping to get my gear by the end of the year, I thought about buying the Kraenzle B270 T (cold water, 16L/min , 270 bar max, Honda Gx 390 LX engine) , a 1000L cubic water tank and a Mercedes Sprinter :) do you think it would be a good.setup?next step would be a hot water pressure washer but the one I'm interested in, costs 12k€ . Keep up the good work, god bless you and your loved ones!!✌ Cheers from a romanian living in beautiful Vienna!
What do you ise for foam that you sprayed and what nozzles are you using
Hi nick just a fan of your work 2 days to finish it do they not know superman cannot fly 👍
😆😆 love it
What grit do you use for the permeable paving?
I know it might sound ridiculous, but I often think that the use of a water extractor/hoover would be more efficient than pushing the dirt with the power washer 14:40 onwards. Not that I will ever try that on my driveway :)) Great job mate!
Theres a lot of theorycrafting but no its not more efficient as you still need to use the pressure washer to clean the block paving, much easier to just push it to a nearby drain than to try and suck all the crap out of every single brick - I do this professionally on an industrial scale
As Andy has put, much easier to use the pressure washer. Thanks A lot Martin 👍, cheers, Nick. 🙂
Hi huge job , what type of blower do you use, and how did you know it was grit and not sand, also self draining, is it just experience cheers
Great work Nick. Recently started doing this up north, in Scotland. Running same machine pressure as yourself, and bought an xjet. However xjet isnt pulling hypo from container for some reason. Its the right xjet for machine tho. Can i ask what color tip you generally use, and is the pressure of your machine at its max? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Peter. 👍
Hi mate. Thanks a lot. The normal cause of that in my experience, is that the hose attached to the X-Jet, that feeds the x-jet from the drum has curled inside the drum, isn't sitting in the hypo properly, and is sucking in air. I cut my hose down to roughly 80-90cm because of that issue, you just need to make sure the bottom of the hose is sitting at the bottom of the drum, sucking up the chemical, and not taking in any air. It should work perfectly then 👍
