- What was it like returning to the characters of Vox Machina? Critical Role stars Matthew Mercer (Sylas Briarwood), Marisha Ray (Keyleth), and Ashley Johnson (Pike Trickfoot) sit down with Dan Casey to discuss their new animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina, the difference between filming their first episode of Critical Role vs the last day recording for the animated series, and Mercer’s desire to voice all the NPC’s on today's episode of Nerdist Now!

The question everyone wants to know is this: Who plays Victor the black powder merchant?
i bet Matt kept him ... He liked him so much he dressed up as him at one Halloween.
Only one person for that role and it's matt Mercer. You want to buy the powder yes yes😭.
Worth noting: Victor may not be in the show. At least, he may not be in the episodes that have been greenlit. We're getting the original pre-stream special before we jump past all the Kraghammer/Vasselheim business and directly to the Briarwood Arc. Victor doesn't actually appear in the Briarwood Arc. His debut is _right_ before the episode called The Feast which is where we first hear about the Briarwoods. Then we don't actually see Victor again until the Chroma conclave and the search for the Vestiges of Divergence.
Didn’t they give it to the guy who played D&D with Mercer’s mother? He guest starred as well. Darin de Paul?
thats the true question.
I want to see Vin diesel voice the sunbreaker minotaur from campaign 2 just so we can hear Sam fangirl over him as nott
This is a great pitch!
Or, for campaign 1, Kevdak
Terry Crews as the Minotaur
@@MrThierryFournier I was gonna say Earthbreaker Gruun
Only if he shouts "Family" everytime he attacks.
always loved critical role. So wondeful to see such passionate people persuing what they love
And the money ain't bad either.
Got to watch the first 2 episodes because of the Kickstarter and it weirdly feels like a show made just for me? and I think all Critters will have simmilar feelings. It's so cozy and awesome
“Mathew Mercer-Sylas briarwood and like 12 other voices” I’m dying 🤣
Let Vin play Kevdak the giant with the Titan stone knuckles. Hell he could do the Cinder King or any of the dragons of the conclave except Raishan.
Here is to hoping for 7 seasons and a movie
Just started watching C1 after finishing C2 a week or so ago. Saw this and was like, "huh? A video about critical role on Geek and Sundry that was JUST posted 40 minutes ago?"
Now I see there's been a few others lately too, but apparently CZcams didn't put any of them in my feed before now. 😄
Same!
I only just realized at 1:48 that you can see a shadow behind Percival. I must have seen that promotion intro a dozen times and never noticed it before...Super cool!
So I just looked at the IMDb. Sam Riegal got his children a part. That’s pretty awesome!
Lol. That's called nepotism.
@@timd4524 Only if they were given the parts because their father and didn't audition for them.
@@LdyVder They apparently have a different idea of in-house. Who knew Jeff Bezos was part of in-house. Hollywood lives through nepotism. Always has and always will.
@@timd4524 I don’t see the problem here. It only really matters when they’re put in a position where someone else is more qualified.
It’s just a tv show that they created, ffs.
It’s also entirely possible that the parts they got, Mercer (while creating NPCs) or the team(during the writing sessions) based the characters on literally two of the closest children they know.
I know for a fact Riegal consistently asks his children for input. He talks about it all the time. Do you even pay attention?
@@timd4524 Furthermore! If they ever wanted to break into the VO community, this is the perfect small role for them to get into the industry. /smh
You sound disgruntled and it’s embarrassing.
Way to cool! I'm on episode 76 of 1st season and I hope to eventually catch up to the live episodes.
Woah you have so much ahead of you ! Have fun :D
I'm like 10 behind you, man. Working my way there as well. Can't help but watch both.
I had that ride too, it was so good! Enjoy your endless episodes!
@@radartechnicianbob8208 I mean its not a bad idea! The worst that could happen is you get the campaigns a bit mixed up but with the amazing Critical Role wiki its easy to figure out whats what.
I'm about 10 infront! What a journey!
I am excited to see where their journey will go and just being grateful to be allowed to come along for the ride.
1:39 Lol I like Matt's billing as Sylas Briarwood (and like twelve other voices).
It gives me a good feeling about the show. (I mean, I already had a good feeling, now it's a better one.)
Bit of a lump in my throat remembering the early geek & sundry days to this interview now, can't wait for friday!
Crazy amazing work, guys! Here's to many, many seasons if this beautiful show. Long Live Vox Machina!
Ok, did they deliberately choose not to show more than Dan's hand or shoulder from the D&Diesel clip? Justice for Dupont Dupont! (Great interview!)
Finished watching the animated series for the 2nd time and wow.... read how it all began and watched a couple short videos of Critical Role and I wanna watch some mo!!! CONGRATULATIONS to all of you for what you created and worked so hard to bring to life 😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 not a gamer, I'm an otaku and total geek/nerd so fantasy is awesome and a favorite of mine. Dammit I can't wait y'all 😍😍🤤🤤
Vin Diesel as Thordak, I'm praying for it
Vin Diesel would make a great option for one of the Chroma Conclave in my opinion.
Vin Diesel as Vorugal or Umbrasyl specifically omg
Kevdak
@@MrThierryFournier So true, I was thinking Umbrasyl but if they animate the Kevdak it's gotta be Vin
@@MrThierryFournier OMG! You won.
@@MrThierryFournier So much a better choice. I can actually picture it in my mind and he sounds amazing.
What a wonderful journey, we are blessed as fans!
man I am so stoked for the animated series :D
The fact that this started off as a dnd home game
Not just a home game, a birthday one shot for Liam.
It was Pathfinder until G&S got them. They changed to D&D because it was more well known.
@@JohnniePayne And simpler to understand for an audience who isn't familiar with rpgs
one more day to amazon premiere, hype!
it's been hard for me to separate the faces from the characters in the previews i've watched so hopefully the full eps will distract me enough that it doesn't stay an issue
Im having the same issue haha but the show is pretty good anyway :)
I can't wait to buy the box set with bonus features.....
No joke, I hope Vin Diesel voices one of the dragons.
We are almos thereee!!!
Vin as Thordak would be money; he already sounds like a crackling furnace!
No matter what, Matt has to play Victor.
(and like 12 other voices) Nice😆
Vin as Dr. Dranzel
Vin Diesel as Dr. Dranzel! :P
Give the insane cast that have for Season 1 Vin Diesel for Season 2 seems easily in the realm of possibility which is crazy to think about.
The red head is cute af😍
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It all goes back to the OG days of geek and sundry❤️
As someone who has never seen any Vox Machina content before, should I watch the animation first? Or the original podcast first?
Sylas Briarwood (and like twelve other voices) lmao. Matthew Mercer everyone!
Well...that's it...we're getting Vin Diesel in season 2😂
I mean how can you honestly refuse Matt or that deal?
Vin Diesel for Doctor Dranzel. Change my mind
Kinda into it
Thordak.
I really want to see GI Gnome taking down an entire house full of bad guys.
Who knows we might get a certain dwarf to cameo.
I just wish there was a narrator so we can hear right before some dies: "So... How do you wanna do this?". At least once and would lose my $#!+
I'm willing to bet you that at some point we will hear it during or after a fight. It would be easy to have a character say "How do you want to do this?" about how to clean up the mess or whether to take someone dead or alive.
I will be a bit saddened if it's not slipped in there.
Yeap. I'm hopping for some meta stuff. I mean, it's Critical Role, right? 😂
PLEASE get Deborah Ann Woll into this crew! She'd be perfect!
She was a guest on C2, so we might hear very well hear her voice at some point.
Salty Pete returning to critical role when?
Your season is so good! A complete turn around of Amazons Wheel of Time failure. You guys blew that one out of the water and look at the money they had behind it!
Liking and commenting cause this is a geek and sundry vid.
Still think Matt should play Gilmore.
I mean... Vin Diesel for umbrasyl? Just saying
I really hope they get Dr. Dre for Dr. Dranzel.
worried about the copycats ruining the genre
The Animated series is great just from the two episodes I watched from being a backer. But I can’t watch the actual CR show anymore somewhere along the way it seemed the heart of the show left during the middle of the second campaign. Oh well it’s not like my fucking opinion matters.
Pretty stoked for what the animated series does though.
So far the only miss I've seen is casting Gilmore as someone who's not Matt. He just doesn't feel like Gilmore in the least and it's sad.
Oh look. Trying to reignite a dead channel. Clear!
Uh... 2.2 million subs seems pretty solid to me. How many do you have? :-)
Hot take: All Critical Role campaigns would have been so much better without Marisha. She "okay", but nowhere even close to the quality of voice acting or role player as the rest of the Critical Role squad. Definite favoritism for being Matts wife.
I guess its a good thing this was originally just a game friends wanted to partake in. Micromanaging must take its toll.
Marisha is a great voice actor. Listen to her in Pillars of Eternity 2 as Keyleth. :D
She’s also seemingly got a good head for management and business, as their company’s success indicates.
The hell do you mean "favoritism"? You think the rest of the table aren't friends with her, and want her kicked out?
Ew.
Hot take: this is the same bull that assholes have been spewing from the very beginning and you aren’t original in the slightest. Also that’s his wife, not just “some girlfriend” and even if she were that doesn’t invalidate her position as a player at a table. She’s been doing just fine without your approval.
