  • A hammer fire aluminum-framed conceal carry sub-compact pistol. A good idea? What does it bring to the conceal carry table?

Agree I can’t feel the false reset shooting at the range. Only dry firing the gun can I see the issue but even that is hard to do. The CSX is accurate, easy to conceal, holds 12 rounds and isn’t snappy. Only wish was it trigger was about 4 pounds pull.

I bought a CSX 3 week's ago, I have 172 rounds through it and the accuracy is unbelievable. I'm a smaller framed man at a whopping 5 foot 3 inches, my hands fit perfect on this gun.
I've had no issue's, no failures to load/eject.

When you can only use one hand. That beaver tail is a great feature to have. I just got a CSX a couple of weeks ago. The slide is super easy even more so than the EZ's. That helps one handed too. This is my new carry.

    • @DrTac
      @DrTac  Před 2 lety

That’s a good point, I hadn’t thought about the one-handed benefits of the CSX. I was just so impressed with comfort of the steel frame…so much so that I just recently purchased a Walther Q5SF (video coming out shortly). Clearly, the CSX is more suited to conceal carry.

The S&W CSX Innovative?? What the..?!?
My take on the S&W CSX 9mm:
If you have XXL/XL hands the CSX maybe be a poor choice. For women & small to medium men, it probably works as far as *_fitting the hand._*
The *"issues"* with the CSX are well known by now:
    - *_heavier_* to pull trigger on A SINGLE ACTION GUN (the striker-fired S&W Shield has a better trigger I'm told).
    - the CSX has a "false reset" before the real reset
    - some say the gun's handle is comfortable, *others* say the CSX is uncomfortable to hold. TEST before buying.
    - odd/strange disassembly
    - tight bullet fit in magazines when full of rounds
    - tight magazine well fit when loading firearm with a magazine full of rounds
    - *_minor pet peeve_* - has an *external manual* safety that most modern firearms have gotten away from.
    Anyway,
this (around) _$610 USD_ *S&W CSX* could be a success or become a flop - 50/50. There are many cheaper in cost, higher quality small, thin guns out there in comparison (SIG P365/P365XL, Glock 43/43X, S&W Shield, etc.), IMO.
To me (IMO) this gun is *_not the one._*
A better S&W CSX *_Ver. 2 or Gen. 2_* is very much needed.
    _Happy upcoming _*_Independence Day 2022!_*

Great points. I think what makes it unique is that it’s a high capacity SAO subcompact, in an aluminum frame. While this answers a lot of wants that many who conceal carry have been looking for, it presents some of the concerns that you have pointed out:
      - Most individuals who conceal carry prefer a slightly heavier purposeful trigger
      - The smaller the grips, the less you print and the less comfortable the gun is to shoot and the less control that you have when getting back ion target; these are simply trade offs that we have to make based on our priorities…if deep concealment is critical, then smaller wins
      - As a single action only gun, I’m afraid there just isn’t a good way around the external safety, at least that I am aware of
      - While the aluminum frame really gives this subcompact a great feel, it’s tolerances are not as forgiving when it comes to magazine fitment, as you pointed out…another trade off when trying to deliver high capacity in a small metal frame
GOOD NEWS: After reading over your comment, I think I found the right gun for you!! The Walther Q4 SF, although there are still some compromises:
      - Steel frame - solid, feels great, but compact size, not subcompact, and heavy (which I kind of like)
      - Really nice trigger without external safety, but it’s a striker fire instead of a SAO
      - Flush fit mags hold 15 rounds and fit great even when loaded to the gills, but they’re bigger and relatively expensive
The Walther Q4SF is one of my favorite guns to carry (I did a couple of videos on it), but it has limitations that the S&W CSX tries to address, and of course there are trade offs.
Thank you so much for watching and I really appreciate you taking the time to give such a thoughtful comment.

@@DrTac Thank you for taking time out to respond comment *DoctorTactical.*
I really don't have any concerns on the new Smith and Wesson CSX in 9mm. I am not looking for another handgun. I just heard a lot about this _"new better than all the rest"_ small pistol due to it's latest *promotion* by everyone and their mama on CZcams.
As far as what this guy or that guy wants in a concealed carry self-defense handgun... I have no idea 🤔 except, of course they want to be able to _"conceal" it easily, right._
Personally, I use a *_Glock 43X_* for concealed carry self-defense. This is from trying micro 1911s, Bersa Thunders, Makarovs, S&W 442s, CZ 100 (discontinued), and a few others.
After learning about real firearms in the US Navy I am pleased with this tool - the G43X. I have seen other US Navy friends (Marines, Submariners, & SEALs) also carry the Glock 43, 43X, and 19.
      *Back to the 9mm S&W CSX -*
No gun is perfect and there are issues (some mentioned already) with it that need to be looked into. I have heard of other "problems" with the CSX too:
      See -
      MAC's review of the CSX
      The Yankee Marshall's CSX review
      NutnFancy's CSX review
Just to name the well known folks that have had "issues" while reviewing it.
As I mentioned earlier *_in a way_* (IMO) the CSX attempt is not innovative but just a little different with many things that are "old school" in the design:
      - the almost phased out manual external safety
      - the _heavier_ metal frame for a concealed carry self-defense handgun? Really.
      - the single action trigger that is heavy! What? So heavy the striker-fired S&W Shield has a better ligher trigger 🤔. Odd.
      - old and odd disassembly process. Even the "new" 2022 FN Hi-Power changed/updated that old system.
      - on and on...
A version 2 or a new generation of the CSX that is more refined, more modern, and "fixed" would make this gun worth something and then ALL reviewers could say it truly is a special "innovationtive" conceal carry gun.
One caveat to what I just wrote to you *DoctorTactical,*
As long as any gun is reliable it is fine for self-defense. Everything else can be _"inprovised, adapted, and overcome"._ I have heard the CSX is reliable and that gives me a lot of hope here.
      God bless 🙌.

@@sweetcostarica Great points I think potential buyers should be aware of.
I suspect S&W may have made some incremental improvements. One of the early ones I handled had a bad click in the reset stroke. A later one did not, but had kind of a hump in the reset. Cleaning up the trigger bow and the link for the firing pin block where they ride against each other helps.
I’d seen some reviews on magazine problems, and some of them apparently had the magazine spring not hooked into the hole on the follower. I saw one mention of a spring in backwards.
Mine has a decent trigger break, initially around 5.5# but settling in to a touch over 5. For me, for an EDC micro, that’s about what I’d like.
Mine has proven super accurate and is more fun to shoot than I’d expected based on dryfiring it, and from reviews. Ran about 300 powder coated wheel weight through it the first day, later fired some jacketed reloads, factory ball, and some factory defensive ammo. 100% reliable so far. Although I shoot to reset, I seem to naturally land on the true reset without thinking about it, and haven’t had a bobble with the trigger.
Might be I got a good one? Anyway if a person wanted a micro 9 and wanted 1911 like manual of arms, I don’t think it’s too bad. If I hadn’t run into a screaming deal on one that had a better feeling reset, my plan would have been to wait. Being S&W I’d bet they are already prepping a Performance Center.

      @sweetcostarica Před rokem +1

@@JeffinTD In my experience all new designs have issues. No matter what it is. The question is are they dangerous issues?
A second question is if you get stuck with a new gun with problems *_can those issues, major/minor, be fixed_*🤔 ?
The *Smith and Wesson CSX* does have issues (see CSX problems on CZcams). Which for me *_not being in the gun industry_* can openly say for consumer protection *_do not buy one_* until further testing of this very new product is throughly done.
Hence, I stated _wait_ for the CSX version 2 or generation 3. If it is not discontinued like the CZ 100 by that time.
Since you *Jeff in TD* have a CSX all this is elementary for you but for others they should beware and wait✋️.
      God bless.
