Thank you for your advice! Recently got the Ornata a few days ago without knowing anything about them - just cause they looked pretty. Despite the compact soil (we don't have any other type in my city), it's been doing pretty well and is currently sprouting a new leaf. I uknowingly replanted it as soon as I brought it home in a much bigger pot, so there's always the risk of root rot. Thankfully, it's always humid here and almost no chemicals in our water. Kinda worried about the winter though, as I'll have to bring it indoors.

It's much easier to buy a decent humidifier and just leave it running all day. Unless you have a big family that are showering in there, the humidity isn't much different than other rooms in the house. It's a myth that all bathrooms are humid.

@@22dolxxxphin22 it's doing great, it's getting plenty of indirect sunlight and lots of humidity, as i've put small humidifier right next to it. I think it gained about 8-10 leaves since i got it. It can be scary at first, but since it has good light and moisture it'll be doing just fine 🤗

😊 my calithia warcez. It has a bloom on it . I didn't know my beautiful plant did that. Maybe I'm doing something right? But the weird thing is that in the middle of the bloom there are groups of two weird looking things, I wish that I could put a picture on here, that come up and out of the bloom. They look a little like a long teardrop upside down so the big part of the teardrop is a part that's growing up and out. I have no idea what you call them, but they are more fragile than the leaves are ! If that's at all possible 😂. Are they supposed to fall out ?😢😮 I'm very grateful I have a BLOOM coming out of the middle of the tallest stock BUT I'm terrified that I'm doing something wrong with the flower. If you wouldn't mind answering me back? I really appreciate your videos, they're a big help. I have two different kinds of calathea plants. The other one is the lemon lime color and it just doesn't want to grow, it's just a little squirt, and it's decided it's going to stay that way. It only has two leaves on it and it's right where the other ones are, so I can't figure it. Same everything. So one's flowering and the other one won't grow😅😊 thank you very much, for all that you do, sincerely, Brooke Whitehead PS I am disabled and this is my hobby and what a wonderful hobby to have... My whole house is greenery and people just take a deep breath when they come in 😁❤️🌿🪴🌱

I love the calathea. After watching this video I'm a little frightened because I just fertilized them and hope that I did not overdo it. Right now I am slowly killing my Freddie calathea. It literally curls up and turns brown right in front of my eyes. I'm sure that it hates me because all I have to do is look in its direction and another leaf curls and dies. The longer it sits in front of me the more it dies. I do believe I did this by transplanting it and mucking with the roots. This particular plant has been a learning experience and it has almost most-definitely died for the cause. I haven't given up and I have every intention of buying another but it will be younger and I can climatize it a lot easier slowly getting used to living here. I am in Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦 and at this very moment it is minus 42 celsius and my humidifier runs night and day. Thanks for all the great tips and crossing my fingers that all of my care has not been their demise. 😁

I think that the calathea network is the most beautiful one. But you need to see it in person. Because it's a discreet beauty that doesn't translate as well on the screen as when you have it in front of you. I think, what made me so interested in it is the grid pattern. Nature rarely creates squares. It usually has round forms.

So helpful! I'm a new plant daddy and I don't know, I picked out a peacock Calathea because it just spoke to me at the store. But boy am I struggling to keep it in good health. After 4 days of getting it I realized that the edges of some leaves started to wilt and that not all the leaves were pointing up at night, so its come to my attention that humidity and distilled water are key.
I hope to invest in a humidifier, since I live in the midwest where winters can be harsh. QUESTION. What kind of humidifiers would help this plant thrive? A cool, warm or ultrasonic mist? thanks!

My geoppertia insignis is booming. Loves its locarion.
My geoppertia makoyana hates its life. I recently went in and did a full rehaul. Brought down to root/rhizome, and put all new mix. Use a modified chunky mix with peatmoss added for extra water retention. And smaller grain size than i use for my aroids, which lets me water more often without worry.
I mist them daily 2-3x and i provide 3 humidifiers keeping the himidity in the house around 60-70 %.
Hoping that'll fix it up. Its a cathedral windows and its grown A LOT since 8 got it as a little 3" plant and oooked great foe the longest time. Vut the leaf edges were crisping and the colors looked washed out, so i figured the plant was grtting inconsistent humidity and too much light.
But i moved it and dude threw a FIT.
Its leaves went crinkly and brittle. It stopped its new frowth and the whole thing just looked terrible. Moved a couple more times trying ro find best spot, and decided to just pull it out, cut off all yhe gross growth, clean the rhizome, and plant in new mix in a smaller container.
She hasnt bounced back yet, but. She seems to have stopped getting worse.

I wouldn't say for definite, but I suspect that your "dottie" could in fact be an "Illustris".
They are identical when young , its only as the new leaves get bigger you get the light green stripes like a flamestar. The pink colour tends to fade on the striped leaves also.
I know this from personal experience as I bought a dottie that was in fact an illustris , I can see the same green stripes starting on yours.

Even with automated constant 55-60% humidity, my rufibarba is still getting crispy edges. Even so, it puts out growth.
But I find it a bit ridiculous to see calatheas sold in the winter, and they're quite pricey. They look nice and lush coming straight out of the greenhouse, but they're never gonna survive winter dryness without humidifiers, which not many run.

use a well balanced 1-1-1 or a natural fertilizer like worm castings!

Your plants are beautiful but you present them a bit roughly in the handling. Sorry! Show us the plant all around. They are all very beautiful by the way! Thanks for sharing!

One of my favorite plant species, a bit fussy, but a very sexy plant indeed, many factors to keeping them happy and looking their best, but to me draining is the most important factor with having them, your plants are beautiful and sexy !!😁😁
