@@haytch9623 Why do you bring his mental health into it? He signed a contract that takes him through to 2027 for $800,000 per season. The bloke hasn't cracked first grade this season because there a better players than him at Manly and he was dropped to reserve grade and give the opportunity to sort it out. All the while, whilst playing reserve grade, his contract for $800,000 per season still stands. By some accounts, he has been sulking about playing reserve grade. You can play into the emotive side of the game all you want. But the fact stands that him not playing playing first grade is entirely performance based. A fact that I would imagine he himself is fully aware of.

Sea Eagles bosses have reportedly included a performance clause in Josh Schuster’s contract that has saved them from having to pay the $2.4 million remaining on his deal. All players should have a performance based clause! Some players just look at the $$$ and forget about earning it!

Smart by Manly putting that in the contract. It proves they know he was 50/50 at best. Good teams have these standards. You're seeing it now at the Storms with Big Nelson. He came back overweight so they dropped him and if he doesn't clean his act up, he's gone. Not a fan of them but it's those standards that keep them at the top.

The clause in the contract isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. He met all the targets before Christmas but then he had 2 injuries and an illness. That’s just like trying to fire an employee for falling unwell and this is why the RLPA is there for the players. They’ll end up moving him on to another Sydney club for 300-400k with a load of performance clauses and manly will have to carry the rest of his salary for 3 years.

The problem with these kind of players is that they’re improvised big -bodied (185cm 105kg) playmakers . That’s his belief cuz it’s what he’s always done .
this doesn’t work in the top grade.
His big body in the younger years didn’t allow him to master game organisation (can’t be a 7 or 6) . He’s relied on his big body and natural talent flare to score points .
Simply put , he hasn’t fully developed his set of skills that would make him a reliable starter in 1st grade .
It’s a tricky one but I would use his big body as lock-type-bench player .
I’d try to reprogram him and tell him to always always always take on the line .
As the game wears on and he’s subbed in , his talent will shine .
But he’s a bench lock type kind of player.
