Chris Roberts: linktr.ee/Chrisroberts - Zábava
The switch pop shuvit was from Ian Smith, who also did the bigspin. Both tricks were in his part in “Something Wild” which is a shop video from our local area in Bel Air, Maryland. The shop is called Skatology Board Shop. The video came out in 2009. I filmed a large portion of it. Appreciate you guys covering his bigspin! 🎉 Such a sick episode. The 360 flip from Eric Kunmann was also in our video “Something Wild”. You can find all the parts from the video on CZcams, someone who bought our dvd at the time uploaded all of the parts to CZcams a few years later. Chris Cole btw tried the 360 flip before Eric but never got it, so Eric is the only one to my knowledge who ever 360 flipped it before the gap was gone.
Eric’s part - czcams.com/video/bhePWKHuDeE/video.html
Ian’s part - czcams.com/video/nTxffZNMFzE/video.html
@@curroofficial9156 that bigspin was just perfect. thanks for sharing.
skatology on top. shout out john lol
Sick
That Ian Smith BS bigspin looks so cool
My favorite is the backside bigspin, its the most stylish exectution, the way he scoops it, the catch, the twist, the pose when he lands, the turnaround, its all so fluid and perfect
Chris cole, transworld in bloom, switch fs flip n bs flip is the best tricks ever to go down at the love gap🔥🔥🔥
Didn't look as good as Kerry kickflipping it
Thank God it didn't take me long to find this fucking comment. Cole put the biggest shit down on that thing without a doubt.
@@Deathcatclub that shit was so fucking proper and such a fucked trick on that thing
I'm shocked that they didn't even mention him. Those tricks were the best and bs 360 too !
Switch bs flip would have been crazy
That bigspin was just too good. Absolutely incredible
I’m surprised they forgot Kerry Getz’ legendary kick flip from ‘Jump Off a Building’
I think they did mention it briefly
It was mentioned, but they never showed it.
Kerrys kick flip was the first thing I thought of.
Jump off a Building was the first skate video I watched and my first time seeing anyone do anything down the Love Gap. Looking back it was probably the biggest kickflip down anything in that time era.
Skating Love as a kid of the 90’s nobody ever thought anything would be done over that gap. Just seeing someone ollie it was mind blowing.
Brian Wenning's switch back 180 may not be the most difficult trick but it's so goddamn clean!
Commented before I got to the clip, I'm so happy they included it!
Yup best trick
Dude I wanted to learn just normal back 180s after this and i STILL can't do them lmao. So Wenning gets my mad respect.
I was there for that!
I was there
was my fav skater all my life until i heard about him holding a gun to his 2 year old toddler and going to jail, wack as f
Imagine if Jetemy Wray landed his FS 360.
Hardest: switch backside flip
Cleanest: switch heel
For the time: switch back 180
I'm surprised nobody's favorite was Tom Asta's sw front heel. He just makes it look so easy!
They did
You know what the difference was between Ishod an kerrys pushing was, the wheels.. Kerry did it with nineties sized wheels
Mark Suciu Varial Heel and Tom Asta's Switch fs heel are right up there imo
Those 2 and switch bs flip are my 3 fav.. how on earth they nut riding ishod reg heelflip so hard
Ian Smith did that crazy bigspin and hes also the one who did the switch shuvit u guys where talking about... that bigspin is so crazy..
I’m glad Ian gets acknowledged, great dude. Also Eric Kunman 360 flipped it
Shout out Baltimore homies
You guys gotta factor in board size and wheel size variations from different times due to changing trends, a 49 mm wheel performs quite differently than a 45
Thanks for this Nine Club Guys, such a cool chat about all these legendary tricks and the people and for pulling up all the clips!
Again we turn to Rog for confirmation of skate lore. 🐐
Time?
Ian smith… backside big spin with no recognition it’s absolutely bonkers
Ian is like a local legend in Maryland. If he was pro he probably would have gotten a lot more recognition
agreed
G.O.A.T’d 🙌🏾👍🏾
I think at the time he wasn’t that big of a name yet unless you were on the East coast. its funny because he did it and somehow everyone forgot about it. I had to show one of my homies the sequence in the mag because he didn’t believe someone did that trick yet 😂.
I never forget!! East coast stand up!! Man should of been pro 🙌🏾💯
I skated love park. I was brutal and my crew was brutal too. We skated it with some locals. Thats how it first was. You couldn't just go skate it. You could skate around it. If you tried to skatw without approval there was always someone "setting up" for the next set. When we got the invite we brought so many they almost didnt let us skate. That didnt last long because our older skaters infiltrated it. They had no choice.
Matt Reason ollied it right around the time Vinny Ponte ollied it. Also, Mike Maldinado kickflipped it wayyyy back in the early 90s around that tine also.
Willy Lavigne is sick! Dope benihana
Fun fact. Philly used Tony Hawk Pro Skater and it featuring Love Park and City Hall to sell them as a location for X Games. Then they used the X Games money to renovate them so there was nothing left to skate.
man i love listening to these guys talk about skating. such a good show
Chris Cole all day and he grew up/from 25 miles in Pennsylvania on top of it!
The leaked Chris Cole battle from back in the day was fire. Can’t remember if it was the 360 or 360 flip. But he slammed over and over and over and over.
Reynolds front side flipped it and makes it look small
2:49 Its crazy how the ON Video footage is now older than the 93 "vintage" footage it was showing.
Chris Cole back 3 is up there too.
Donnie Bianco did a Scarewalk, not an Airwalk.
Front foot off toeside, back foot off heelside is an Airwalk.
Scarewalk is much more dodgy but cooler.
Cole tre’d it but stepped off the board and didn’t roll away. It’s in an old clip with Kalis talking about it. Bam is in the clip too talking about it
I’m a bmx rider but I love this channel because I’ve always loved watching skateboarders and this is the perfect channel to get a good history lesson and learn more about the industry.
My little community of riders and skaters are tight and we will often session spots together, share trick ideas, spots, and film for each other. I appreciate the hell out of skateboard culture and we will always call fakie 180s half cabs, sorry Steve.
Yes, bmx co-opted a ton of trick names from skateboarding, but if bmx riders looked down on skating we wouldn’t keep them in our voCABulary. Most the best bmx filmers were inspired by spike, beagle and other skate filmers. Bmx owes a lot of its culture to skateboarding.
Tom Asta frontside big flip and transfer to the biggest gap between the fountain and skating over the stairs of Love Park in Philadelphia!
If you haven’t been there, I grew up and skated Love park hundreds of times. You can’t understand how Large and long that Gap is. It’s Gnarly watching people like Chris Cole & Bam ripping that gap is Beast mode!!
Bro same, I remember when I was trying to ollie just the very last block, bc you had just enough run up if you started at the wall to clear it, took me forever lol. Couldn’t even imagine trying to do anything down the whole gap. Fucking nuts. Getz kf will probably always be my favorite trick down LOVE, Welcome to Hell was iconic for me at the time, right around the golden years for me on the board
Donny Bianco's Airwalk will always be my favorite trick down the Love Park gap. It's etched in my mind from the 411 chaos opener as Motley Crew's " Shout at the Devil" begins playing.
That back big spin was fucking sick though.
Is it an airwalk though? I thought airwalk had to have your front foot kicking toeside, or doesn't it matter?
Yeah we used to call the opposite a scarewalk
@@skatechatham That’s it! The scare walk with your bollocks exposed to danger ⚠️
No one is doing a massive gap on their own. Plus, you younger skaters, people didn't film all the time. People actually threw themselves down crazy stuff for fun of it. You would have to know someone with a camera and talk them into filming. The stuff I remember seeing but no one filming is crazy.
That scarewalk was nuts
yo, i was there. Lil Stevie, Fred Gall were my boys. I'm from south jersey. It was a Sub Zero contest. I was in that contest "amateur" I ollied the fountain gap . That was my spot. I love gaps. Thanks guys.
Switch fs heel flip imagining trying that downs huge gap is insane. I don’t even see how that’s possible
Backside Big had so much style!💪
hell yeah, pop-shuv to bs 180 is the cleanest way to hit that trick
12:00 Ian Smith was also the one who switch pop shuvd it
yall gotta make your split screen even smaller cause it often gets in the way of landed tricks.. or put it in the top left or right corner.. we need to see the bottom corners often when you show tricks...... please and thanks ; )
I’m surprised nobody has tried to recreate love as a skatepark
what a great idea, im gonna make the park for fingerboards first a scaled model :) question tho what city gets the park?
Hence the rise of skateplazas
Dats a dope idea
@@infinidominionI know what you mean, but I think he literally means the setup of the entire place. Like no premade skate obstacles (flat bars, many pads, a frames, quarters, banks, etc.) quite literally a recreation of the entire spot.
@@wasitworthit1 It could be done. You can find the original plans quite easily through library access. The problem is gonna be the cost and how much land you actually need. You're probably looking at easily north of $100 million these days.
That switch 180 is beautiful
Wenning sw back 180 was forever etched in my memory… too steezy and clean
I was there
That rob roskopp deck in the background was my first deck except mine had a green face instead..my favorite deck ever!!
Sheckler backside flipped it.
What video? I dont remember him doing that.
Why have I never seen this show/podcast.
Tyler Nelson who is now AM for Mystery did heelflip and tuck knee back in the day
IM HERE FOR THIS
My favorite Kelly Getz hahaha
I liked mine club a lot more when Roger was fully present, he always had really intelligent takes, he knew a lot of back story and skate history.
I don’t think Eldridge adds much to the dynamic to the show and his takes never make me think “ah yeah, interesting, never thought about that”. One trait he has that’s good is that he isn’t afraid to disagree which the show needs, but when he’s disagrees it’s not like he’s the voice of reason, rather it brings the convo to a halt over something that doesn’t make much sense.
Idk maybe it’s hard for me to like his commentary after he was arguing that filmers shouldn’t care about getting paid.
First off- I’ve personally seen Choppy kill some gaps at Burnside that were WAY bigger then the love gap. He was also way younger when he lived in Harrisburg so I could see him doing it.
He did in 93
@@MrDeege2491 I also vaguely remeber grainy footage of him doing it.
Great vid, love the deep dive into history 👍🤙
1rst, switch bs flip-2nd, bs bigspin-3rd, tre flip-4rth, scarewalk
The Boss fs flip you said it yourself "Iconic "
Oh snap my boy Willy made the video! Benihana for days!
did it so easy too!.. lmao being the first clip too totally caught me offguard.. didnt know about this one but soo sick. first try forsure haha.. good times skating with Willy and the Torts Dreams/Rehab crews
@@werelyve it was third try - loaded up with a few beers apparently too 😅.
We were skating there in the early 2000s and a friend of mine Eric Galka just charged it and Ollie’s it out of now where. It was sick. Donie!!!!
Ian smith switch shuv was a beauty also
Nothing compares to seeing these dudes rip live
Someone should rebuild the love gap at a sk8 park
defined need more vidoes like these
I feel like I have a full on Mandela effect and I have fully imagined Chris Cole 360 flip Love Park too.
He back 360'd it and tre'd wallenberg
he stuck the tre flip but never rolled away.
@@JanoyCresva ah yes, I’m convinced there was footage of it too possibly in the On Video section.
Love to Jimmy Carlin from Sweden.
For sure, Chris Cole owns love park. Also, RIP LOVE PARK!
That Airwalk was so fucking clean!!!
It was nuts but his feet kicked in the opposite direction of an Airwalk. His backfoot kicked forward and his frontfoot rearward. I wanna say It's called a Scarewalk but I'm going by memory from 30 years ago...
makes sense in a way tho, the commitment you needed to launch anything crazy off this.
I was there when wenning was switch heel flipping it. He bent his axle on that shit!
that bs bigspin so pretty and stylish damn
I'm surprised some people who were around then never did something down it. Like muska, Sheckler, nyjah, p rod, Ed Templeton etc...
Lotta great Ishod clips at Love
The mild argument about ishods push power is my favorite part of this
I was fortunate enough to skate it back in the mid 90's and Kelly was right, the blue paint was insanely slick.
Jimmy Hardflip was effortless!
Toss up Between Pappalardo and Wenning's switch Ollies :) By Far the Best tricks and Chris Cole..... also Philly is a tough city, they dont want anyone to take their pride :P ty yall for this shit conversation so dope!
Great, I'm going tomorrow there to do all the tricks that they've done.
I heard Chris Cole did that backside 360 twice. He went back wearing the same clothes and did it again. Is that true?
You can tell by the landings he did it twice. The ride aways are different. Plus people sitting in background in one angle gone in the next. But don't know if it was different days.
Choppy?: czcams.com/video/hxnnKqWtMjo/video.html
His sponsors were crazy too, Supra and knew at the height of those companies.
Here I am again. Alone.. midnight in NY... and don't really wana think about anything but skateboards
I miss magazines too man..😕, looking for that one photo in the sequence that would make a dope still. Bringing it to school too, flipping thru it in the beginning of homeroom totally zoned in... lolol
the switch ollie couldn't have been better
Tom asta switch front heel is by far the hardest trick down it 👌🏼
damn i forgot about that one 🤘
nah switch backside flip is harder. it's a more awkward trick and you're spinning blind sided
@@billybobthekidiswack Yep, I do think the backside bigspin might be just as hard though because it's also blind and you're landing fakie
@OldAssYoungBoi yeah I already considered that. I'd say switch backside flip is the harder trick and bigspin Is the scarier trick. Approaching a stair set going that fast switch is an already difficult task alone but a switch backside flip is a harder and more awkward trick then a big spin in general.
Choppy did it
Hey guys, I use to skate back when I was 13-17 and I'm starting to o get back into it at the age of 29.
The only thing I need, is skate video recommendations! Which videos should I watch first?
Back in the day I was a Baker/Deathwish and Zero/Mystery fan, that is to say I like the hijinks and stuff, but I also want to see next level skating, see how far things have come since the last time I was on a board.
Muy buena txabales!!! Molaria ver a Alex Amor!!
If Furby keep his life clean and less of smoking/drinking during his prime he would have probably throwing bangers on these, like switch big heel, nollie bs heel, switch bs flip. Man skated some big ass gaps and stairs
Wasn’t the bennihana done by Brian wenning?
I am playing Session and doing every trick in this video as I watch it. And I'm making money...
Brandon Turner would have done switch hard flip
I'm pretty sure Josh has Love Park granite he's putting in there too.
Sooo dope
Steve Caballero is standing on the last step when Vinnie Ponte ollied it.
No joke I agree switch front 180 is so much easier on anything than switch back 180 lol
Cole killed this place in one day !
in 2004 i did a switch heel UP the gap! .. didn't get it on camera though smh.
Will Lavigne Ontario Canada guy, soooo knarly to, stoked my boy got his benyhana in here
There's a chart that compares famous skate gaps, with height and distance🙃
I did not know this
I just moved to Philly in 2019
They buried it
I was at the Christmas fair
So sad
I couldn’t even imagine doing a 180 down that like at this park near the skate park I got to has like a stage that’s probably 3 feet and I’m like hell no I’m not doing a 180 down it
Like this comment if you want to see Kerry Getz on the Nine Club!
25:00 Kerry has been trying to get on the nine club! He is always tagging you guys. Let's get him on! WITH Mike Maldonado.
Talking about the difference in pushes between Ishod and Kerry... maybe better bearing technology 🤔
