Oh Gina! my mom used to cook this for my dad (special) when he'd come home late from a union meeting...she's Italian, he (was Irish) . Mom is now 103 and living independently in a 55 and older community. I will tell her about seeing this video; she'll get a kick out of it. She grew up in Newark, NJ's Little Italy by Branch Brook Park. Mom now has two Great, Great Grandchildren thanks to two of my Granddaughters Daughters. We had five generations at her Centennial birthday party. Stay well, stay healthy , and thank you for sharing !
I made this for my family, I followed her recipe to the letter. A little of this and a little of that, more of this, and some sprinkles of that. My family was in shock! They all asked , how I made such delicious pasta?! Literally I make it once a week. It is fantastic! I add a little chicken or shrimp every know and then with some garlic bread, my family loves it! Thank you Grandma for teaching me how to cook this dish!!!!
@Rolf Eliason - Nor could the Chinese nor the Arabs, since it is reported that both had noodles in their cuisines, with the Arabs reportedly having introduced them to Italy. No matter. Noodles/pastas are enjoyed by different countries around the world.
yes of course ask the indians and/or the whole asian people. thats quite a good chunk of the world, india and asia combined people, and thats not enough, there are entire nations eating potatoes all day every day, and not even thinking there is pasta in this world. pasta is just a food carbohidrate supplement , rice is another, cous cous is another, potatoes are another and so on
I cannot understand why so many people put her down. She is adorable, and a rare grandmother. She is filled of love. I am grateful she shares her recipes with me. She has the savoir-faire of excellence with simplicity. ❤️❤️❤️🥂🥂🌷🌷🌷
Because many people have the " that's not how my Grandma made it so it isn't correct" syndrome. She all the time tells us " This is how I make it, somebody else might make it different." And then there are the garlic haters. They all lead a sad life I suspect.
One of the simplest, most underrated and delicious dishes of Italian cuisine. My mom was Sicilian. Her version had anchovies added to it, an entire oval tin, oil and all. The anchovies would melt and flavor. I never cared for the anchovies but I put in fresh basil and slivers of sun dried tomatoes. You can't go wrong with this dish. Bravo!
I love her, my grandmother lived to 101, God Bless Her. My Primiano family had a farm in Jersey, I grew up eating food that I will never find in the best Italian restaurants. Home made red wine vinegar and hand picked, washed dandelion salad. The meats, chicken and pastas, I could go on,on and on. I'm 71 now and when I watch this wonderful woman cook, I see myself sitting at a family filled table, utensils in hand, mouth watering and love oozing from every pores. Oh yeah,"don't throw coats on the bed, watch the pasta"! Thank you Grandma.
This Nonna returns me to my youth when we had Nonna’s and Zia’s who cooked daily like her. Adding the starch water directly to the cooking oil is new to me. My mom reserved a few cups and added it to the pasta after combining the pasta and ingredients. I will definitely try this Nonna’s method the next time we make it. Meaning, next Friday which is our regular “i maccheroni agli olio night”. For variety, we’ll add shrimp to our dish and instead of parsley, we’ll use fresh chopped basil leaves.. This dish works beautifully with spiralized zucchini too. Thank you Italian Grandma (Nonna)! 🇨🇦
Laurel Brennan, I know what you mean! I watch her videos and at the end I take a screenshot of the recipe and ingredients. But this recipe looked so easy I wanted to make it at 1 AM!
Dude, aglio e olio is exactly the after-midnight snack, back in the days when I was still in Italy me and my friends would sneak into the kitchen after a night out and make this as a cure for hangover. Works 100% of the cases.
Am I the only one brought to tears when she said they prayed over the food and then proceeded to say the blessing? She reminds me so much of my grandmother who passed when I was young, I miss her terribly, and Gina brings back all those lovely memories.
Nonna Gina your such a blessing to watch you remind me of my mother and my grandmother's. My mother's mother and father were from Calabra Cenadi. You bring happy tears to my eyes every time I see you. God Bless you sweet lady with all my love❤😗
Nonna Gina, sei bellissima e bravissima! What an Amazing Human, Great Role Model, your family is so lucky to have you! Not to mention all your recipes are Amazing!!!!!!! All of them! . You bring out the joy, love and passion of cooking and the singing and prayers are a Bonus!! God Bless this Beautiful Soul.!! Love You soooooooo much!!
This is a delicious dish which I have seen sold in restaurants for $16 or more! I make mine the same way except I 'finish' the pasta in the skillet after draining water. Sometimes when I have sun dried tomatoes on hand, I finely chop a couple of them up and add in. My mom used to throw in a can of anchovies oil and all while dish still piping hot. The anchovies 'melted' into the pasta for a unique flavor. You can get very creative Aglio e Olio!!!!! Bravo!
They just dont make em like this anymore. My grandmother is 94 and still insists on doing all of the cooking AND cleanup afterwards. A lot of people who dont understand would probably be outraged, but its her comfort zone, and she honestly wouldnt have it any other way. She literally wont let anyone else do it in her place. I get the feeling this woman has similar qualities. God bless her.
Just made this - not only does my entire house smell divine, it's also extremely quiet because my three boys (hub & kiddos) are all too busy stuffing their faces to say anything. The simplicity of the recipe does not diminish its deliciousness.

Hello from NY. Grandma Gina reminds me so much of my Italian mil, Arthur Ave. Bronx. Nothing as good as really great AGLIO e OLIO. You have to make it right. Plenty of parsley. Amen, In the of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. God Bless you Gina and family.
I started watching this video for an authentic Italian recipe to do at home, but she reminds me so much of my late grandmother whom I still miss dearly that I have burst into tears and still crying while I write this. Cherish the time you spend together with your loved ones everyone!
What a beautiful grandma. What I wouldn’t give, to just spend one more day with my grandmother. Cherish your grandparents.....they truly are irreplaceable!
I just love her! She is exactly like my Grandma! I miss my grandma every day! So I when I get sad, I play her in the background of whatever I’m doing, and she calms me down, like my grandma is right here in the room w/ me
Dear, Mama Gina. My mother just passed, she loved watching your videos. I would put your videos on auto and she'd lay in bed sleeping most of the time near the end, but your voice and familiar accent soothed her soul. I should note, you are one of the few who pronounces ricotta the way we do. I cannot thank you enough for making those videos, Ma would say you are a "real work horse" making all those tremendous recipes we all know and love... I'll always thank you for being there for my mother in those days, you were her last buddy...
I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. May God give you strength to face the difficult days and may your memories of your mom bring you peace. God Bless.

@@mario123m Given that a lot of the salt will be dumped out with the excess pasta water, that's true, but just as a raw amount of salt that looked like half a cup, which is a LOT of salt. Given that she's also adding salt to the sauce, that's a fairly salty meal.
@@thevoxdeus hahaha bucket of salt yes thats what I thought aswelI. I made the dish today. I have put in way more salt then I ever did in a dish but less then grandma here and straingely enough...I missed some salt! Usually I dont eat much salt either.

This dish reminded me when my nana used all of these ingredients but added a scramble egg and toss it all together with the spaghetti and then fried small amounts in a frying pan. Those we're my best memories of her in our kitchen 50 years ago.

These recipes and videos are such a treasure you are handing down to all your family. Thanks so much for bringing us along and sharing your recipes and especially sharing you! God Bless!
When I was young we had this every Christmas Eve. When I got married my wife, who's Italian & Irish, carried on this tradition. It wouldn't be Christmas Eve without it. Thanks Gina!!!!!
OMG.....I am drooling...
A vegetarians delight.
And praying before eating is definitely a proper thing to do.👍
I love this lady! She makes me miss my grandma and aunties...
I loooooooooved when my Nona said olio too or olioil she rarely said olive oil or added the v in it at all and i adored that woman so very much and I adore her and this channel so much
And the people who disliked the video or say negative things are just mean hateful people you don’t have to like the dish but their mother and Nona is incredibly amazing don’t see how you could dislike this beautiful lady or her channel
Italian grandma: I put a *little* salt.
Also Italian grandma: *dumps mountain of salt onto her hand.*
That wasn't a lot of salt for the amount she made...
@@MiNa-yl4mw the oil takes away from the saltiness
Gina, I am 100% Italian... Now at 65 yrs old, I'm so proud of that. I love your videos...NEVER STOP! We Italians & so many others enjoy so much. UR a great cook/chef :) WE LOVE U! keep um coming !!!!
I’ve just declared her my Grandma🥰
This dish reminded me when my nana used all of these ingredients but added a scramble egg and toss it all together with the spaghetti and then fried small amounts in a frying pan. Those we're my best memories of her in our kitchen 50 years ago.
An egg would ruin that dish
Ms. Gina, ever since I started watching your channel, I’ve bought a basil plant, parsley, and Romano cheese. Thank you again for sharing your delicious recipes. Be safe and healthy ❤️❤️🥰
‘Firsta, you put a lil’ a salta’ .... proceeds to pour 1/3 of a cup into her hand. Love it. The water should taste like the sea.
🤣🤣🤣 I said “damn, that a lotta salt”
I watched this video about 6:00am. It's now a little after noon. I couldn't think about any thing else for 6 hours. So I just made it. My taste buds are break dancing in my mouth. Thank you Chef Gina!
Traditional cook,
Faithful and graceful woman who cooks with so much passion, you are a blessing and a joy to watch.
I was in Sicily and a friend's Grandma showed me how to make Aglio e Olio exactly like this. Couple things she stressed...
*Never break the noodles
*Never wear my hat at the table (My bad)
*Never leave her house hungry
I love her humor, singing, and I love that she prayed over it. It looks delicious! +
Hello Ms. Gina, I made this last week and the family LOVED it! Thank you!
This is a special channel for me as a close women in my life adopted me and my children who was known as Nana. She was not Italian but married to one and cooked Italian food, she is no longer here and I am so happy you are teaching us authentic Italian food!
She reminds me of my Italian mom and nonna. I have tears in my eyes.
Mine too. I miss her

Why people have to make stupid comments?!! We all love her so get a life.
Right. I was so pissed at people. If you don’t like how she cooks just shut the hell up and watch something else. Or like you said, get a life. You know I only really bothered with you Tube this year...and some people are douche bags.
I come and watch grandma which I need some mama love. It is like heart therapy. Now I see you have a cookbook that I have to have. Much love - please keep cooking and singing and praying!
Little salt🥰love her!
31 (as of this comment) vampires can't appreciate a garlic pasta dish. Send them to the sunlight.
This is the real deal. The way she cooks, the way she talks, the pray. Perfect.
You're a blessing from God Miss Gina!! Much blessings to you!!
We love a praying grandmother. I’m about to make this for lunch. Thanks for the recipe 💜🥰🙏🏾
Tonight I make this for dinner, Gina! I like a lot of garlic and hot pepper shake! Forgot to add this is good with garlic bread to soak up the sauce
I needed to see something wonderful like this today. Anybody else?
She inspired me to do my own channel 🥰
She's reciting the rosary to Virgin Mary...love it.
I was wondering! I’m not Catholic or Italian so I didn’t have clue. She’s absolutely right though: we should all be praying before we eat.
I would love the meal prayer to be translated into English. It sounds beautiful and full of love and faith.
