- Look out for ghosts! Mike and Jay talk about a TV show. But they're not going to talk about every TV show. They're just talking about this TV show. They also talk about Overlord. They will not talk about future Overlord movies because there won't be any because it flopped.

Overlord is the best Wolfenstein movie I've never seen.
For real though. Just finished watching (I finally got around watching it after seeing this review a few months back). The whole pacing of the movie feels like Return To Castle Wolfenstein or Wolfenstein The Old Blood. It never goes as crazy as the games with types of enemies. But just the straight forward start which then steadily builds up the crazy stuff. Very reminiscent of the Wolfenstein games.
@@tominatorxx If we just pretend it's Wolfenstein it would legitimately be the best video game ever made. Clue might be the best game movie, but for specifically video games Overlord would blow everything else out of the water.
@@Horatio787 Pretty much yeah. The only videogame movie that would be on the same level, would be Silent Hill. That was also a pretty proper videogame movie.
As for all the rest of the videogame movies... yeah those wouldn't even come close.
Just saw it. About half way in I saw like man.... Where's BJ Blaskowitz? I'm so happy this movie exists.
It’s bunk but the jump is worth watching on youtube
Absolutely insane that Andor was announced 3 years ago and just finally came out
and it's actually good.
@@travismcnasty4239 It was actually a decent story, but I still don't care about Cassian Andor. I fail to see why he's important to anyone within the continuity.
@@travismcnasty4239 it isn't. you're just used to even worse than what it's offering you. that isn't a trophy-worthy thing beyond flowery dialogue and the admittedly good goal of giving Stellan Skarsgard a paycheque
@@michealschrum6076 You're not supposed to particularly care about Cassian. Andor is putting the "War" in "Star Wars." It's about how the Empire extended control, the Rebel Alliance formed, and regular people got sucked into a side. Andor isn't particularly important. He's just a guy who didn't want to be a rebel until the Empire pushed him into it.
@@notme222 If I'm not supposed to care about him, then job well done! But I think the point behind any protagonist in any movie or series is that you're supposed to care, whether that means you're supposed to love them or hate them. Cassian Andor seems to me like an unnecessary cog in an otherwise interesting machine. I realize that he is central to the story, but his appeal is such that he is completely interchangeable, as apposed to any other character in any other Star Wars installment. Make me relate to his story in any way, shape, or form!
You didn't notice the hidden ghosts... but your brain did.
I was thinking that when I saw that part of half in the bag lol
What’s wrong with your FAAAAAAAAACE
I mean I noticed a couple of them, but because I didn't know if they were supposed to be there or not, I think I just convinced myself that it wasn't what I thought it was and moved on. Now knowing that they actually were ghosts, I think that's super neat that they did that.
@jaredcrimm3472 that's kinda what they wanted you to do, like most would do if they saw a glimpse of something like that in real life
The Haunting of Hill House is about family, and I think that's what's so powerful about it
Samuel Jenner family is so powerful it prevents you from making the proper decision to destroy the soul trapping house and let your loved ones find peace after death.
Though. It would be cool in a pre industrial or a post apocalyptic setting as a “holy” site for a small community of people. It’s the same feels from Shadow over Innsmouth with the deep ones and their cities. But on a smaller scale with less disgusting implications.

Yeah 😂 my reaction to Andor initially was exactly like them. Now I consider it as possibly my favourite bit of Star Wars media…
it saved the rebellion. it saved... the dream!
I went and saw Overlord in a discount theater. The movie was great, but the most fun was listening to the horrified elderly couple sitting a chair away. They came in expecting some World War 2 movie and left completely mortified, best theater experience all year
That rage against the machine knockoff at the end really tied up the whole episode for me and left me wanting more of your brand of hip, edgy style

Andor is good.
Doctor Sleep is good.
Mike Flanagan's career is good.
Wyatt Russell is a good actor.
I think Wyatt is great as the new Captain America. He was the only good thing to come from that show.
Netflix the Stand was not good.
The Haunting of Bly Manor is good.👍
So if that was originally supposed to be a Cloverfield movie, then does that mean the original title was "Cloverlord"?
Yes.
Cloverlord: The Overfield Paradox
ZIIIIING!
Honestly a title like "Operation Cloverfield" would have been pretty slick.
The "hidden ghosts" are just crew members who forgot to step out of frame ;)
I, too, have seen "Partners".

Ben Burnes love Event Horizon.. but you gotta know that the director of the film was the same guy who’s done all the Resident Evil films as well as Mortal Kombat .. so that explains it
Don't Hit me!
@Benjamin Figgins the only reason it has a cult following, its for the idea of hell, and how explicit it was originally in the movie.
The Matrix score is so iconic. It had some rock esque stuff too so Rage wasn't totally non sequitor, certainly not thematically.

So basically Overlord is what The Predator should have been? A fun throwback to classic mid-budget action-horror-science fiction films of yesteryear ,done earnestly without the stupid jokes, and with a well written script.

Overlord sounds kind of like Wolfenstein: The New Order. It awknowledges the weird stuff in its universe, but plays it all straight, turning it from silly to frightening.
I'd say Old Blood because there's zombies
@@arlosteiner8382 Most Wolfenstein games, yes. But New Order was unique in its sober take on the series. I mean, there was a whole level taking place in a death camp. The New Colossus, on the other hand, returned to the camp of earlier titles in its second half. It was dissapointing since the first half had such great character moments. Maybe Wolfenstein could only stand to be smart for one and a half games.
The Black Paratrooper is just too made up and takes me out of the movie.
The New Order is great but it's very very campy
You should watch a movie called Frankenstein's Army.

Jay: "I haven't watched 'This is Us'. Is that the show where everyone is sad all the time?". LOL.
For over a decade that decapitation scene has been a hazy memory that I couldn’t figure out what it was from. Now I know. The circle is complete.
I really enjoyed Overlord. It was much, much better than I expected. The effects were great, in fact, the D-Day stuff in the C-47 was better than a lot of war movies, the costumes and weapons were spot on. Superb attention to detail that shows.
The female lead was just that, a character in her own right, not shoe-horned in as a love interest.
My only minor bugbear from the historical point of view was the black man in a white unit, the US military only desegregated after WWII, but it's not historical it's sci-fi/horror so it is fine.
The other movie of this type I really enjoyed is The Devils Rock. Small budget, claustrophobic and quality.
If I wrote the movie he would've been part of a segregated black paratrooper unit and ended up mixing with a white unit during the scattered drop. I feel like they missed an opportunity to draw a thematic line between a black soldier fighting both the racial supremacy theories of the nazis and the white supremacist attitudes of his own country.
My only nitpick I remember is the German MG42 (buzz saw sounding) machine guns sounded like ANM2 .50 aircraft machine guns. .50s sound cool, but the MG42 is awesome too.
I agree about Overlord , well written, well acted, tightly directed. The acting was pretty good , esp. from relatively unknown actors.Jovan Adepo as Boyce was a good protagonist, and Mathilde Ollivier as Chloe was really beautiful imo.The titles were very retro, which reminded me of playing Medal Of Honor on X BOX.
omg Mathilde is so pretty
You guys should actually make an episode where you fix VCR's for real. Seriously you guys should. I would watch the whole thing.
Kind of like when the uploaded 59 minutes of black screen for the Transformers Rise of the Knight Half in the Bag episode?
Even in character I don't think they actually know how
Rich Evans might be able to but not these two.
You assume they know anything about the operation and maintenance of VCR's... Now that I think about it, watching mike try and fail to fix basically anything would be good content, so I'm all for it.
The Haunting of Hill House was like if American Horror Story was actually spooky and good.
AHS just looks so ugly, could be a lot better if they put the effort to make it look good at least like the haunting of hill house.
Ahs is just trying to be artsy and meaningful but it just comes across as a pretentious mess, I'm all for art but the show is just so up its own ass.
But Kathy Bates is an android with a shotgun arm!! That's spooky AND good and definitely NOT completely mishandled schlock.
The "hidden ghosts" where just extended family members - like the fifth roommate in The Young Ones
Overlord is more of a WWII mission film that they used to make a lot more of but has fallen out of favour these days. Probably the closest we will get to a proper Wolfenstein movie from a major studio. I liked the movie but it didn't seem to make enough of the subject matter.
If you guys are doing TV shows I'd really love to see Twin Peaks: The Return.
Jay and Josh will do a Re:View eventually.
Oh man I spent all of Overlord thinking that dude looked a lot like Kurt Rusell. I had no idea it was his actual son. That's awesome.
CBS All Access is remaking The Stand. I blame this video.
SHODANFreeman - that’s no good.
So funny watching this now that Andor is actually out after 3 years lol
so Disney's idea to back track bad ideas is to do a prequel of a prequel no one liked or cared about.........Cassian....IN DA HOUUUUUUSE
Plenty of people liked Rogue One. I didn't and I still struggle to see why people tell me it was better then Episode 7, but it doesn't change the fact that people liked that stupid movie. It may be easily forgetable even for those people, but the assumption that nobody cared about Rogue One is false.
@@fattiger6957 Star Wars is a war film. More specifically it's a WWII film with a slick coat of paint. And the trouble with war films, normal life isn't like the war. So, if for instance, we made All in the Family with alien-looking creatures and slapped the Star Wars logo on it, would it be Star Wars? No, of course not. The only things that lets people know that they are in the Star Wars universe are jedi, light sabers, at-sts, stormtroopers, x-wings. Leave all those things out, and you're not in Star Wars anymore, you're in, "We slapped this logo on this thing, now buy it you schmucks" territory.

I agree with Mike. Overlord is one of the best movies I've seen in the last 10 years.
Haunting was an interesting piece for me as a fan of the book and the 1963 movie. Like a big part of those films was the question of if the ghosts were real or if the character was just going insane. This completely removed the mystery of that. But it was still amazing. . . Although the Red Room is an Amityville Horror thing, not a Hill House thing and that was weird.
