- Finally the Subaru update you've been waiting for! Giving my JDM EJ205 Swap Blobeye Wagon some attention today. Tried to get the motor in but ran into a few issues. Worked through most of them and made some great progress today! Can't wait to see her running again.

What is Ecrew? When I had to uproot and move to Indiana, there was a car community called Bcrew (B for Bloomington, Indiana). These guys became my family. Instead of partying on the weekends, I was working on cars- and I loved it. Since starting youtube, I have started what I call Ecrew. It's not supposed to be some childish "Logang squad." It's a community where you get to take 10min out of your day and be involved in a build, but more importantly it's a family.

Do you think I should run a recirculated or atmospheric BOV set up and why?
EmeliaHartford you should get a 50/50 one so you get the best of both worlds.
If you are running a maf run a recirculating bpv as it won't cause a lean condition that could cause damage over time. Also I noticed there were no timing guides on the timing covers(the motor was most likey from a auto that does not come with them), they a extremely important as the gates belts like to slip without them and on a interference motor it will cause damage
If you're gonna daily drive it, i vote recirculated for all the time you're gonna spend at part throttle in traffic. Atmospheric get kinda annoying in traffic getting on/off the gas specially in LA traffic. I drove my buddy's bug-eye and got stuck in 405 traffic on the way to Long Beach and hated it, couldn't turn the music up enough to drown in out, sounded great in the canyons though.
yes on the Timing belt Guides, a must for manual Ejs ...but no on the BOV issue. it will actually cause the mixture to go overly rich when you dump already metered Air. I do agree that she should run a recirculating Bypass Valve tho ;)
Unless you plan to run a speed density tune stay with recirculating (stock recirc at that). If not properly tuned it's basically just creating a post MAF leak.

Plastic roloc disc is perfect for cleaning gaskets material. Won't damage the aluminum and gets it off quickly. I have a bunch of wire wheels for my drill as well but for things like valve covers I prefer to use plastic roloc disc so I can be quicker without having to worry about messing up the surface.

Just cut the stock inlet hose connection since it’s plastic. It’ll slide right out. Putting the new one in is the fun part unless you want to unbolt the manifold while you’re there. Look forward to seeing the car running soon.
If there's access to a large air compressor, get a straight and/or angled die grinder with some 3" Scotch-Brite pads. Those work great at removing left over gasket material or rtv and it's fast and easy.

Scraping gaskets = such a pain... but, if you do everything right the first time you won't have a bunch of oil leaks.

you might get a slight bump in turbo performance with the recirculated set up but who doesnt love the sound of the BOV dump. Plus just dumping it will be a whole lot easier. Keep up the good work love your vids. ECREW OUT!
NismoBB stock subie engine management runs off the MAF sensor. If you do atmospheric dump it's really just a post MAF leak as your letting metered air escape. Need a proper speed density tune to run atmospheric bov otherwise it's best to stay recirc with these.

Coming along nicely, also if you are doing a bigger turbo than stock you should do a bov if not a recirc should do just fine because more air is being forced thus the need for more air to be expelled compared to the stock turbo

All you had to do was use a steel wire brush on the black RTV. comes off super fasst.

Hopefully you got the JDM ECU... You can rewire the USDM engine harness to activate AVCS. AVCS is what makes this motor rock. Also, you can run e85 with injectors and a fuel pump... 300 WHP in no time.

hey have a question! i was rocking a 07 impreza wrx tr with a EJ255 USDM but i bought a JDM EJ205 off my buddy, im getting stuck because the cam positioning sensor on the jdm one is behind the crank cover on the opposite side of the AVCS nipple ( on the cover) and i don't have that on my old harness. im trying to keep my harness and ecu usdm cause #Budget any help would be greatly appreciated, loving the videos, keep up the good work.
What valve cover gasket did you end up using since it was different, where u able to find the valve gasket at a typical auto part store?
