  • Hans Majestets Kongens Garde, His Majesty the King's Guard on the Norwegian Constitution Day 17 Mai 2018. Excerpt from the Drill Command Program. These soldiers belong to the 3rd Guard Company, Drill Platoon. They are a special force of conscripted soldiers guarding the Royal Family. They serve for one year. During that time they have a reputation of becoming one of the finest Drill Corps in the world due to special programs developed by their Battalion.
As is tradition, after their show on the Norwegian Constitution Day May 17. (17. Mai 1814) in Oslo in front of the University of Oslo, they ask the lady bystanders for a dance, before they prepare to march to the Royal Palace parading for His Majesty the King, the Royal Family and all the tens of thousands celebrating Constitution Day.
At the end of this video you can see Norwegians dancing a traditional dance, wearing traditional dresses (varies from place to place in the country) known as "bunad".

This gives me fond memories of my childhood, when we lived in Oslo.

Yes, it's a long held tradition. When did you live in Norway?

@@NorwayT my father was an engineer. So we moved to Oslo in 1989. Then we moved to Stavanger in 1991. I moved back to the US in 1998. My parents remained in Norway until 2004.

@@monfisch I see! Did you enjoy your stay in Norway? Oslo & Stavanger are definitely not my favorite cities. I'm from the Arctic Parts. Did you get a chance to explore Northern Norway? If you didn't, and you're planning to go back someday to visit, you should check out Northern Norway.
The easy way is a Cruise with Hurtigruten.com and right now the Norwegian Kroner is insanely weak, so if you're looking for a cheap & great vacation, Norway is a great choice right now!
Pardon my curiosity, but in which field was your father an Engineer? Several Civil Engineers in my family, which is why I'm asking. 😊

Livgarden i Københavnavn er nu heller ikke så ringe enda. Tak for kommentaren, Mathias! Tak!
