.. as Android has an inherent problem to at least 3 years ago... continually automatically refocusing every few seconds.. it zoom bounces.. on all the apps I have tried..
and in reality isn't actually a good video camera...
The commercial filmmakers that make a big thing of using mobile phones to shoot their film were actually made with specific phone cameras that were expensive and have high-end specifications with specific software...
Another group say use whatever...
When they never actually have...
or if did ..rejected the results...
Would THEY wear whatever to an interview?

It's a while since I saw the video..
he did all audio externally, with an audio recorder costing (at a guess) over £200.. probably £400+.. add the mics, lights, stands etc..
Totaling £800? or more..
Why would someone be using a $100 camera..?

I am ashamed to say that that IS the camera I have been using since I launched my channel in January. It’s done me well to be fair, achieved over 13k subscribers in 6 months, so not too bad. Granted, I know i need to up my camera game, but finances don’t allow it at the moment, and my mobile phone camera can’t switch off the autofocus!

iPhone XS for everything and it records in 4K
I am using my Canon M50 mk II for photography... the lesson here is a very important one to us creators; the tools that we have at our disposal are just an extension of our minds. That we should focus on using what we have and use it to our level best!
LOL believe it or not the camera you shot the video with is the one I have 😂😆 I am new and my channel is new I got it to do as you said not to make any more excuses on why I cant start my channel. Your right it has it's issues but for what I paid for it and as a beginner it works for me.
Agreed! I'm a huge advocate for "use what you have" and at the end of the day it how YOU put your creations together... whether you're starting with your phone, borrowing a camera, or have one of the most expensive cameras out there, it's still YOUR story to tell!

Love that you mentioned audio and lighting there at the end. So many people don’t prioritize those, and I feel like that will boost their production value more than upgrading to a multi-thousand dollar camera setup will. My first equipment purchases were adjustable lights, and then a very high quality Rode Mic. New camera will be next, but I feel like the audio should come first because no one will listen to what I have to say if the audio quality is junk. Great video!

This goes to show that the best camera for CZcams is the one you have now! Be resourceful and make full use of what you have now. I used to record with just my phone! Content and Consistency is the key. Best of luck to everyone starting out ❤️

The best camera is the one that you have with you (plus 1000 dollars lighting setup, 500 dollar microphone with 700 dollars audio interface, 2000 dollars PC , 300 dollars light stand,200 dollars tripod and 420 dollars of annual internet bill)

I went back and watched the video again, and you can definitely see the difference of the camera quality compared to the normal cameras you use. The colors are off and the footage looks a little jittery. But I wouldn’t have thought much of it because the audio sounded good, the lighting was strong and, most importantly… the content was great! Thank you for making this video and proving the point that gear is less than important then the skills of making a good video.

How do I make my eyes look even on it?
I got this camera a while ago and I love using it to shoot personal videos and take photos of my cats. The one thing I got frustrated with is the focus, so I have to use the wide angle lens at all times. I also got this June of 2022 and would like to comment that it's gone up to $138 as of today, but I think it remains one of the cheaper options on Amazon.
My grandma gave me this camera and even tho people call it "the worst" I'm still grateful

Not all phones are the same...
Android seems to have a built in problem... I've tried quite a few free and try out camera apps...
It auto focuses... every second or so ...
In the process of doing this it does a bounce zoom...
Makes an extremely annoying bad jump cut zoom..
and I have looked for a manual setting to stop it on the phone software and app software...
Nothing....
There is a slight difference between a £200 Android and a £800 iPhone..
I did a rant on the main page... 🐱 ...

They said w10 was the last... then it would be updates...
I remember the sneaky way they inflicted w10 on w7.... I noticed as it used up ALL my PAYG data... I used actual blocking software and went to Linux... what Apples and Mars Rovers run on...

It seems like a $50 camera in a larger camera body to look more expensive I think it would be worth $75. I had cameras slightly worse in 2010 that cost $50

I expected it to be one of those knockoff cameras that are basically just a rehoused dashcam. I was surprised it has a fairly decent quality in it. But still, smartphones are basically better and just readily available all the time.

I use to say that but when I got a Sony a6500 with a sigma 1.4 lens I could shoot anywhere even in extreme low light and get high quality. It makes terrible lighting looks awesome . I shoot music videos for artist and I use to worry about the lighting because I had the kit lens but the sigma 1.4 lens gave me a huge jump in quality. I got the lens for 500 bucks and it was worth it , it gives you a big budget look .
This goes to show that the equipment that you use plays a *small* role in the success of your channel. Don't worry about fancy cameras, lighting, and a special green screen that every other CZcamsr has. Focus on what makes your *content* valuable and that'll take you to where you want to be. 💪🏻

No it just a majority of Think Medias audience aren't tech nerds, i saw my brother watching the Mr beast video and i did question why the video quality look worse than their other content, i thought they were using a iPhone 5.
Dude, this video works on so many levels!! Obviously, the message is fantastic however what people probably don't see is the clever use of storytelling. This is textbook 'Setup, Conflict, Resolution' and it works like a dream. Nice work Nolan.

"There are no more excuses" you say as you use at least $3000 in lighting and audio gear to make up for the fact that the camera was God awful. I get the sentiment and i agree, a cheap gopro or phone can do the trick but i dont feel this was a good example.

No excuses, the lighting and audio are more important than the video quality. I watched at quarter screen size and could not tell it was out of focus (maybe full screen I would). I did notice no bokeh soft background. People watching content may not care. Content is actually the king! (and good audio/lighting).

the whole "gear doesn't matter" is explained badly, gear matters for what your doing, I wouldn't take a $50 point and shoot camera to a wedding.

If the lens is stuck in infinity focus, I'd attach a diopter, or a weak magnifying glass in this case. But honestly though I did not notice.
People don't care about cameras. The content is king. I'm starting an CZcams channel with a Webcam. I have good lightning, good mic, and hopefully the content is gonna be good.

I thought the plot twist was going to be that this entire video was filmed on it haha. either way awesome experiment, but in this case most people should save that hundo and shoot on their phone haha, good job man.
Sound is so much more important than actual video quality, as long as the video is passable. That's the first thing I learnt in video classes and you can see it on display here. The first test footage was awful, second one with a lav mic on immediately felt better.

Love it. Great story telling in this video and I'm pretty sure I watched the other video and didn't notice anything... need to go check it out again!
I think the highlight here is that while it's useable, it required some extra work just to make it look decent. The lighting had to be on point, and he had to stand further back and use an external mic. All of that costs money, too, versus spending more on a camera that doesn't require so many other things to be flawless in order to look good!

Also. There’s a lot more going on here than just the 4K camera. 4K doesn’t mean better quality, it’s just higher definition. That’s why you can get 4K smartphones, it doesn’t just depend on the sensor.

Very clever, what you did with the color balance. The only thing that would have given away how bad the camera was. Because no one actively notices chopped frames when they aren't looking for them.

I had auto focus issues the other day, tried, rebooting, different lenses, one worked one didn't then realized on the lens I was having problems with the AF/MF switch was set to Manual Focus😆
Now if I could get my brain to focus better at times that would be great. 😀

great setup video and totally agree, I am having fun shooting great photos with few megapixel old cameras and sometimes getting better response to them then the ones taken with new high end gear
