- I bought a fake Fujifilm X100VI camera from AliExpress for just $35 and it promises to capture 48mp photos and 4k video footage. Needless to say, I now have trust issues.

I'm not surprised that best performing feature from a Chinese camera is, the face detection.
If it's your only find 😅
😄
The best performing feature is the lens cloth's storage bag's adhesive sticker's font
HAHAHAHAHA good one brother 😂
Hahaha nice one
I think a cheap used point-and-shoot camera will still be better than that.
But it would probably cost more than $35.
Most popular vintage p&s might eclipse this in optical quality but it's highly unlikely they can do 20mm FF equivalent wide angle like this thing
I have a Nikon Coolpix L110 and I think it's comparable and it is a bit surprising
@@1pinestreet As long as it is something obscure and not given attention by a CZcamsr or celeb, you can get old point and shoots for dirt cheap.
My Canon A470 was just $16 from eBay a year ago but I don't know what the fuck happened as it is now selling for $40 or more.
@@ej_tech you made an excellent point about CZcamsrs making videos on old cameras.
There were quite a few great p&s cameras that after a few years were quite cheap on the used market. Then someone makes a video about what an amazing deal they've become, and before you know it they're selling for close to the price as when they were new.
It's all about managing expectations. If you expect a Fujifilm camera clone, it's crap. But if you expect a Lomo camera using outdated film, it's a gem. And for the price, it's a big "find".
ain't no way they make fake fujifilm
Oh they do
That crisp sound with that somewhat less crispy video fucks with my brain 😅😂 4:00
Haha I love that you actually took it out to shoot!! The red filter actually looks really sick, like redscale film
I thought this was going to be a 'rip off scam' story. Its not a fake because they dont claim it is a Fujifilm X100V or put a Fuji logo on it. For $35 its OK if you accept its limitations, maybe for a child or just to have some fun. Fujifilm won't even sell you an X100V lens hood for $35
It's a wonderful little cheap ass Lomo style digital camera. I think I can have some fun with it (sometimes less is more). Thanks for the review.
Seems like a webcam jammed into a camera shaped piece of plastic.
Actually i was expecting it to perform way worse! Still would go for a used digicam if I had only that budget. Great, fun review. Keep it up 👍🏼
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
One thing I think this highlights is how much potential there is in the core idea of a basic point and shoot with decent ergonomics and a big optical finder, even one which is basically just a hole. Even with no controls, any garbage lens and sensor, there’s fun to be had if someone can lean into that style of camera body. It’s missing reaction speed, and that motion blur is often pretty bad, but it seems close.
From what I can tell its basically a smartphone sensor and lens without the software/firmware of a phone that makes them "good"
A cheap but dedicated camera like this with a modern smartphone camera software and processing will be really nice fun beginner camera for kids or maybe fot adults as well
Looks like the sensor might be ok but the lens is probably using plastic elements so it's lost all contrast. Fun video. I think I'm going to buy this camera for my CZcams production. lol.
Thanks for sharing. Loved the format of tour channel. Just subbed.
I love your videos, always fun, short and interesting! Nice one! Thanks
Thank you - very much appreciated! Thanks for the support 😁
i feel like this is quite a effort of some talented chinese folks who has passion with electronic but lack of money to afford real sensor and optical quality to their production.
I agree, they've put a lot of time and care into this product. Shame it doesn't quite hit the mark.
@@TomCaltonyes. They worked hard. But these days, they have to work 100 times harder to get some respect.
Thanks for the fun review.
Think some of the output images was really good, like the image at 6:05 of full frame 20mm perspective. Preferred the color of that image than the Sony one.
And also like the creative output from the negative, red, binary and gothic filters for experimental street photography.
I think all of my memory cards each cost more than that camera.
The motion detection function would be actually pretty amazing for something like filming birds or other animals.
I used to have a gorgeous birb coming to a bird feeder I made two winters ago. I really wanted to take a photo of it, but it was quite easily spooked and it flew away every time it noticed any motion. It looks like this cheap camera would be quite handy if I had it back then.
Quality production went into this review. Best ending ever.
Thanks, glad you appreciated it!
THIS!!!!! is by far the best camera related youtube channel ever! the audio and visual quality is top notch, its super informative and on top extremely entertaining i actually lol´ed quite often. dude your comedic timing is on FIRE!!
im extremely tempted to buy one of these
I double dare you 👀 (Link in the vid description if you're serious 🤣)
@@TomCalton this sounds weird to say, but i would without hesitation buy this if it had... LESS features. don't need video modes. don't need filter options. don't need a screen. don't even need color- just give us contrasty noisy black and white. like literally make a mini leica monochrom and i would buy this in a heartbeat. and you can see clearly they can very much create something like that but for whatever reason they think people need "features" as if under $40 wasn't the main point.
You get more for the money than what you get from x100v for 1600$. 😄
Fun fact: I bought that same camera and the quality of the pictures is still better than the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo
Superb
Esto sí es una reseña que vale la pena ver de principio a fin jajajaa.
Awesome Video Tom
:)
Lol I'm subbing because laughed! Going to look at your other photography vids too. Best regards from a budding amateur
lol I started laughing as soon as you showed the first video shot! I'm DEAD
That was great mate, i like ya humour too
Sounds like you got exactly what you paid for. Grateful that you took the bullet for the rest of us.
It's what I'm here for 😅
This is something I would buy kids to play around with
By “kid”, if you mean a 53 year old kid, then yes!
Just give them your old cell phone.
Just give them a Leica or RED camera😂
Thanks for this video.
I’ve seen it on Ali Express and never considered purchasing this camera. I’m 71 and one thing I’ve learned is you get what you pay for. There is no way I’d take the chance of buying this camera. This video validates my opinion.
That being said, for the money this camera isn’t as bad as I had imagined. I go to Good Will on line and have found some old cameras in this price range. That is where I’d invest my $35. Point and shoots with a glass lens. I imagine a much better photography experience.
Mask On Nurse Marty(Ret)
Loved the video. Please, do a series on it, maybe one day you can find a hidden gem.
the fact that i just bought this exact camera
"That's what she said" killed me hahaha
I’ve subbed because the content is wonderful and detailed but not overwhelming. I do have a question for but strictly for photography of mostly wildlife and outdoors which would you recommend Fujifilm X-A10 vs Panasonic GX850. Both of them I’ve found pretty small and power lens to keep them very minimal as a side piece to my wife’s canon r6 mark ii and my m50. Just curious or is it an overkill to even purchase one of those at all? We like the vintage look since modern cameras are very detailed it’s nice sometimes to just have soft retro pictures with minimal editing/none at all.
If you can find one in your region there's also the Fuji X-A20, it's basically the X-A10 with a touch screen.
The Lumix have a more reliable autofocus so if it's just for casual shooting, that might be a better pick. Micro Four Thirds lenses are also real light and compact; if you like pancake lenses there's more option for the mount, zoom pancake, wide, even standard 40mm full frame equivalent pancake lens.
@@shira_yone thank you so much for the comment. I’m still very new with cameras. I just recently bought the mark ii as a gift for my wife and took her m50 as a handyman down. I realized both are quite newer and bulky so was just wanting something small and simple that we could take different style shots with essentially like you mentioned the pancake lens. Much more affordable than the canon lens which yes I know we don’t have to buy but she’s not a fan of 3rd party parts when it comes to higher quality things so with those other cameras being less than $500 it wouldn’t matter. It’ll be a birthday gift for her upcoming birthday, much appreciated again!
Bought one ,not from Ali,and paid more, for my seven year old granddaughter, I am a photographer and she is super interested, and just wanted to get her off the I phone, and to learn a few basics for the future…it is exactly like your review..Very very pleased. Other beginner cameras were just silly. I tested their new model which now has a selfie feature, and they gave it to me…so now Lily and I are twins! My only gripe is the cable to transfer pictures only works for a pc…I bought a card reader and much simpler for a,little girl. She can take the card out and transfer to her I pad. Battery life not super, only 900 mah, but turned off the bells and whistles and that greatly improves the battery life…also very user friendly,no big learning curve..
.it looked and was packaged just like the one I bought her(same as above,I swear
they all come from the same factory)…it also had a pleather cover, which we took off. The retro look is quite good except for the Leica owners.😂😂😂.
It will be interesting to see how long it lasts!
What would be cool is to use this camera's chassis for a open source camera running off of a single-board PC.
The clue was always in the name of their website.
Hi, I have a question, what is the best budget candid point and shoot camera, if you cannot buy a high end Iphone?
It would be great to carry around a high mugging area,if you get held up tell them its a fuji,be fun to see them try and sell it on
It looks good, I recently bought a brand new tiny credit card sized Kodak P&S (an FZ55) with a 16mp CMOS sensor and 5X optical zoom for £80, it looks and feels like a toy but it takes really good photos with good color and contrast due to its modern sensor and AF/exposure system. IF ONLY the internals were inside this body with a viewfinder, but there is a tip, the Kodak FZ55 is way better than you might think (apart from the slow F3.9 max aperture)
Secondhand Serenade is still touring!
this looks like they reused an 48 mp camera module thats normally used in some lowend phones ^^ it's rater intressting to say it nicely XD as said in the video nice for a real challange to get good photos or videos out of it 🤣
I think you're probably right
A lot of chinese sites like taobao or xianyu(second hand platform) also sell "ccd" digicams which are just reworked dashcams so I'm not surprised
Shuttter speed is a total Wong Kar-wai dream. Love. it.
would love this for experimenting with blur portraits/ party shots
I think you might of been the first one to buy the X100VI by accident.
Could you imagine if Fujifilm dropped this at X Summit 💀
Fuji X100v from Ali Express for 35 squid: Yeah - I'm convinced. Where do I sign up? 🤣
the shutter button stop working from first few hours and the power button also stop ?
I bought my wife a Canon G9 years ago, apart from fitting a couple of lens flex cables it has been brilliant, and still holds it's own against any newer type of compact cameras.
If Matt Osborne ((Mr. Leica) did a bedroom photo shoot with this camera … people would say… amazing shot 😂
The "c**k pouch ..." comment, made me spit out my coffee!😅. Anyways fun and informative video.
Thanks for the video. I love junk gadgets.
This is hysterical.
Thanks for the Ilford Sportsman memories, but the subject of this review looks like a 2002 webcam in a silver box.
So it occurs to me that there may be a use for the motion detect mode might work as a trail camera that is essentially disposable.
Is it better than the camera built in to the average cell phone?
bummer that a $35 camera has better ergos than an a7c
Came for the review, subbed for the dry humor.
I think I would like to get one for my nephew, he loves my Fujifilm X100S, hopefully he won't hate this camera : D
Nice handheld dash cam
That's got a phone sensor in it so you're better off just using your phone. As for the zoom, X100VI hasn't got one either. And focusing is fast because with that tiny sensor everything is in focus anyway.
Have the X weekly Codachrome 64 recepie for that artistic camera yet?))
@6:20 not gonna lie I looked at the start of the video and thought oh well at least they put a spirit level on it 😅😂
🤣
motion trigger for bird watching at home, setup next to a feedere?
Good point, well made
That Secondhand Serenade reference though.
Its a camera with built in wish list feature. I wish it did 4k I wish it did slo mo, I wish it had a mic input. You can upgrade each one for a couple of hundred dollars until you actually own a fuji.
imagine this camera exist 100 years ago, It going to be the most advance technology ever exist.
But what was the ACTUAL MP size of the photos? I mean, of course not the claimed "48". But what is it, really? Guessing, I'd say between 6 and 8 MP. Maybe they "upscale" it in the camera, though, to make the output images larger?
No! LoL!
Chump change.
Bought 4 for a weekend party at the farm and another for the glove box.
"It just happens to be bright enough to give you cataracts" 💀💀💀
Maybe i missed it... was this thing branded as a Fuji?
wow your family must love you at Christmas time when shopping for the world's cheapest gifts.
Pretty fun review
It reminds me of those Russian "toy," cameras you used to be able to buy back in the film days. Minus the horrible lens aberrations and light leaks of course.... 🤣
Are you sure this lens can focus? It seems like a fixed focus lens to me, everything is in focus because of the slow aperture and small sensor size.
excellent review
Thank you!
I get surprisingly good photo results from mine indistiguishable on facebook from those from a Leica, it is light and easy to use with good autofocus and very sharp pictures with good contrast as long as you do not use the 'zoom' or pixel peep, ideal for taking everywhere even the beach and freeing oneself from photo technique so as to concentrate on the image and the composition. The colours are very good. The downside is reliability in that that some pictures taken seem to get lost and do not transfer to lightroom so it is a toy in that respect but much easier to use and more fun for taking pictures than a smartphone.
I'm awaiting a deluge of `CZcamsr produces TV Commercial using $35 chinese knock-off' videos in 3, 2, 1...
ah one of those upscaling webcam in another package things.
Does this camera have a half press to focus autofocus or is it just a fixed focus ?
Yes…half press.
Have a buddy who's really into ICM who'd love this, probably.
How did they manage to sell that for only 35 bucks baffles me, I means, it's hot garbage, but it stills is a functionning camera
I thought the same thing. Though, it's heavily discounted and the original RRP was apparently $99, so perhaps they're just cutting their losses and trying to shift the units they have?
@@TomCalton they still profit at $35. I've been to china and there are countless warehouses just full of old and terrible electronic components that nobody wants. More than you can imagine.
So on one hand, it's kind of good if someone is making something from basically e-waste, even if it is crap.
A wise old man told a fool who had bought a fake watch: "If you believe it is a Rolex then, for you, it will be a Rolex."
Iæm getting deja vu from this video man what
Oh I'm sure the "anti-shake" feature is just an alarm to let you know to stop shaking so much.
My current "camera" is a nearly 15 year old Fuji hn25 with a smudge on the internal lens. I love the old digital look, but without the ability to take the lens off to clean it, or 1500 bucks to spend on a new camera.. this is looking pretty good as a hiking/climbing/ general "it's not the end of the world if I break this" camera.. I can't forsee getting anything else of this quality for less than 50 bucks. What do you think?
For $35 it's criminal not to buy one. Shutter lag is what really makes this a toy
This video is hilarious 😂
Now we need to ring up Kai Man Wong and get him to do a protog challenge.
I really like some of those images
It could be worse, it could be a Canon 2000D/4000D. I bought one of these, doesn't work like any timelapse I've ever done, but it's a laugh and not that bad. Good to have in the car, just in case something unexpected photo opportunity comes.
So we’ve now confirmed the Chinese are good at facial recognition technology 😂
They've nailed it
Somewhere there was an RnD team and they did what they could with what they had. I thank them for Camera.
That binary film filter is 💰 💰 💰 💴 I’d purchase just for that
They're coming!
I prefer edging
That means producer can do a perfect camera for 100 USD.😊
I did not find any description about Fujifilm camera from your link ?
There is no link for a Fujifilm camera, because the camera reviewed isn't a Fujifilm camera.
I love it when people who make cheap rip off nevertheless try to make something of it within the limits set to them! Imagine a kid who gets this camera from a street market and gets creative with this. I can see a similar effect as with a Diana or Holga camera! It can remind open minds of the best "processor" on the "market"; the one between the ears...;--)
