      Hunching forward to where your stomach is shoving the gun into the holster can block anyone from getting a hand on top of the gun as well. And that way both of your hands are free to work on whoever is in front of you. There's a warrior poet society video about this, I think it's called chub-jitsu weapon retention or something like that. It's a funny joke video and there's a six foot something 300 pound fat guy demonstrating it in that video, but I really works, even for a 5'9 150 pound skinny fella like me. Hunching over and blocking your gun with your abdomen while fighting with both your hands is a legit strategy.

    I switched to appendix about 5 years ago now and have never looked back. It's more comfortable while driving, still accessible, and when I go wrestle over practice weapons I've never once had it taken out of my holster. When I carried at 3 o'clock that happened a handful of times and that's what convinced me to switch

    I agree 99%.
    There's one other argument for hip over appendix. When you lean or sort of crunch forward, you can kind of trap the gun against your abs in appendix carry, but leaning forward can help the draw from the rear hip. This is often the case for heavier dudes with more stomach to get in the way.
    Some folks feel its easier to protect the draw if you can just turn your hips away from the assailant and post with your off-hand to defend the draw. (This also carries over muscle memory from people who are used to hip or thigh carry from the military or police service.) I can see the logic in that, but even if you believe it I'm not sure it outweighs all the other disadvantages.
    I think some folks feel that rear hip is better for bigger guns (like a full size Glock 17 as opposed to a 19 or smaller), but I think that's more a lack of practice.
    All that said, when I concealed carry its appendix carry for all the reasons Mike said.

    Best argument I’ve heard for appendix so far. Thanks! I still struggle with it because I have a belly and most men’s pants available sit on my hips, which creates problems for carrying that far forward.

    With all the force on force I have experienced, I can say that where you want to carry and where you should carry is not only subjective but based on a lot of factors, such as; how heavy, small, wide, tall you are, etc. Not to mention the type of pistol you have or want to have. We can sayy all day that apendix is the best or that rear quarter is the best, but you have to consider other factors too. Even if apendix is the best position, it may be the worst position for certain people given their size, limitations, etc. I used to carry apendix and after I went through an intensive 6 week force on force training course I found that the best, fastest and safest position for me was rear quarter, even though i was dead set on apendix. During that same 6 week course I saw other people change their carry position too.

    I prefer 3 o'clock. Depending size of gun and the clothes you wear, it's quite natural for draw. Also, body type plays also into consideration.

  • @stevenoconnor3256

    I think most of the arguments fall apart once the fight goes to the ground, a standing bear hug would probably work. Not only that it takes two hands to draw efficiently. As the other draw only needs one hand you can actually fight an attacker far better. I'd argue sideways stance with maybe a Dracula cape-style elbow block and strike would actually make it easier for you to draw and shoot as it creates distance between you and your opposite.

      That’s a good concern. Thank you for supporting!

    • @Jamoni1
      @Jamoni1 Před 10 měsíci +7

      Oh, I got this one!
      You don't walk around all stressed out. You manage your alert levels based on simple criteria.
      Most of the time, you are walking around aware but relaxed. You're taking the world in and enjoying life.... BUT you ARE aware.
      So, when something on your short list of "That don't look right" happens, you ratchet your alertness up a level. For instance, you're walking alone at night? Bump your alertness up a notch.
      Someone crosses the street and heads directly towards you? Bump.
      It's exactly the same as driving a car. You aren't a nervous wreck, but you're definitely watching to see if something dangerous happens. If you hear a siren, you turn the radio down and look around.

    • @Dan-gs3kg
      @Dan-gs3kg Před 10 měsíci +2

      You should learn that even subsonic and suppressed a firearm is still extremely loud. Brandishing a gun is very bad, and sometimes illegal (like in AZ).
      Much like with driving, it's not hard to notice when someone is driving poorly, or has road rage. It's very rare to be run down by a car, it's rare to see road rage. That doesn't stop you from going about your day. Or people taking notice.
      In both cases, Civilians and Law Enforcement don't need to put much effort, or stress into figuring out what is going on. What is neat is how in the Middle East, and mountainous regions in Europe, there are a lot of people carrying very openly with rifles. In the US rifles are a commonality in the large areas that have issues with mountain lions, or boars. Pistols are generally for self-defense, home defense, concealed carry, and in the best places: Property defense and defense of others.

    • @LaurieLaptop
      @LaurieLaptop Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@Jamoni1 Thanks for the comment. I can appreciate if you've grown up around guns you won't think it's strange. It's just not something you see very often here in the UK. Personally, I would feel uncomfortable carrying something so dangerous without a lot of training. One wrong move could be life changing, for people at either end of the weapon.

    • @Jamoni1
      @Jamoni1 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@LaurieLaptop honestly, I agree about the training. I didn't grow up around guns, although we had bb guns as kids. I got my first one for my wife because we had a series of unsolved rapes in our area.
      I've personally taken quite a lot of training, because I believe the responsibility of owning one is enormous and must be respected.
      However, I also know that training requirements are often use as a defacto ban by unscrupulous authorities.
      It's not about fear, anymore than owning a fire extinguisher is about fear. It's about maintaining the ability to react to an unforeseen emergency.
      TLDR: Is complicated. :)

    @Kevin Lee - I never knew that you Conceal Carry. That's pretty F-ING cool that you do. Anyways, if I were you…I WOULD ABSOLUTELY take your buddy’s (@hard2hurt) advice of you should Conceal Carry around your appendix area, because not only does his explanations makes perfect sense, they make sense logically as well.
    In addition, in your 4 or 5 o’clock position, it serves or acts as an unnecessary “barrier” that you need to overcome, in my opinion. And, when it comes to “life and death” situations, you never have time to deal or overcome those types of unnecessary “barriers”. Because, it could very well cost you your life. One more important thing, if put two people of equal skills and knowledge of handling a firearm properly and safely…I believe the person who Conceal Carrys around their Appendix Area, would draw and point their firearm at the target much quicker than the person who Conceal Carrys around their 4 or 5 o'clock positions. And, that a huge deal, because every second counts in a “life or death” situation.
    I think for you next video, you should test it out, to find out if I am correct or not.

    Oh realy, standing in front of me, try to grab my hand or arm while i take my gun from my back. You won't get there without tasting your own 🏐🏐 in your mouth while spitting 😬. The whole point of self defence is ’don't allow your adversary to get in your back'. That's also a defence tactic in the police and military. That's why they don'r wear their guns full gangsta !
