    Great overview and explanation. I'd even say the best CZcams video on these two products. Convinced me to go with the Explorer with all the extra features. Thank you. From Australia

    Excellent overview and instruction. Got all the important descriptions and options in in a very concise video. I just bought the Explorer+ and you answered a lot of questions for me. Great job!

    So I could keep the InReach on my physical person and use my phone as a mirrored screen of the GPS? That's wonderful. In case of major dismount, I'd prefer to have a means of communication on me and not the bike. Genius.

    Sounds like if you really need to pair with your smartphone for better use you may as well get the inreach mini

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 5 lety +1

      As long as your phone has power, then the mini is a good choice. However, I will say that I've experienced some issues with my SE+ not staying connected to my phone so I was forced to use the unit its self. Right now Garmin is working on a solution as to why i've had this issue. In this case, I was happy I had the SE+ vs. the mini which is a nightmare to text on. The SE+ isn't great either, but much easier than the mini. - Chase

    Does it have in time weather forecasts & updates? And if yes, does it include wind speed. Canoe guide, multiple days, middle of nowhere.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes this does have the ability to give weather updates and will include wind direction and speed.
      There are a couple videos on CZcams about just the weather functionality if you want to see exactly what is displayed on the weather updates.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety

      No. This unit will not give driving directions like a Zumo would. It just gives a straight line to your destination.

    If after an hour of trying to figure out how to download a route to my GPS, and I still have not succeeded, I consider the product a failure.
    Will have to enlist someone to do this for me.

  • @Shogun1982

    Can someone make a payment over the phone on the monthly plan in order to get service? Or maybe there is some kind of prepay in advance of a use? Would be using this for emergency purposes, so if I'd have to make a payment over a land line/cell before the thing works, then that would kinda nullify the appeal for me.
    I also wonder, if I'd get a "busy signal" if there was some kind of catastrophe, and a significant number of people in the area were making calls over the satellite network.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 4 lety

      I haven't done that before, but i'm sure you can call in to make a payment. I use the freedom plan so I can freeze my service when I'm not using it. Only takes a couple minutes to do.

    I am looking for a GOS device that I can use while hiking creeks from gold mining, and to be able to use to mark GPS locations for gold mining claims. I am unclear how the GPS works on the SE+. Does it have a map on the screen while using it? Does it tell you distance and direction to GPS you already marked out? I am not looking for something to take on long hikes, so I am thinking the Explorer + would be overkill.

    • @rmatvmc
      @rmatvmc  Před 3 lety

      The Se does not have detailed maps. You can mark and navigate to waypoints but it's a simple line on the screen, but it does give distance and direction. Honestly, I would get the inreach Mini and use the earthmate app. I'd also really consider the InReach Mini. But there are also a lot of GPS's out there that have detailed topo maps that you can mark and navigate with that you don't have to pay extra for the communication features if you don't want those. I have a Garmin Rino and love it! - Chase

    So I have a question. What if I was really far out in a very remote area, and I was attacked by another human but defended myself up to ending the other persons life. But if I hiked back to service range to call 911 the scene would almost definitely get disturbed. If a animal never ate the body or anything along those lines. Should I still sit my gun down and hike back to call? Or sit the gun down and SOS immediately? I am genuinely concerned as I live in a place with a lot of crazy people and I would like to start hiking. But I’m afraid of something like this happening and doing something wrong(order of events in a way)in a situation after defending myself.

      Definitely a tool worth having! I just got back from a week long Idaho archery hunt and didn't have service the entire time. My Inreach was my only communication and although I didn't have an emergency, it's the peace of mind, considering we had a giant mountain lion walk past us at 15 yards!. - Chase
