  • A beautiful day in the forest felling turned into a second morning of correcting some bad cuts. Got the Kubota LX2610 compact tractor outfitted with my Homestead Grapple, and IGLAND 3501 Skidding Winch. Sharpened my STIHL MS261 and 462 Chainsaws, fuelled and ready to spin up. Let's roll!

It's refreshing to see a realistic video when the ground isn't level, the trees don't fall where you want them to and boulders get in your way. So many wood videos make it look like every day in the woods goes just as planned, but we all know that those days a few and far between.

I Used to log my property . I used my JCB 210 backhoe . 4 wheel drive 4 wheel steer . Just a set of forks ! I would cut down several trees then gather them up with backhoe . 5 or 6 logs 10 ft long on forks & wind my way out of forest ! No grapple . Loved it good Exercise & wood for stove .

It must be like heaven on those pre-black fly days! Great examples of the heavy work these tractors can do.

Wee little black flies of Northern Ontario and do they bite hard. Swarms of them little beasts.

Look at you Gord! Plucking rocks and stumps with the grapple! Still way too wet to do any tractor work out in the woods just yet. Don't want to create deep ruts.

You should go do a tour of Tuff Marine. You’re on the same lake i think. It would make for some great content!

Would have taken me four hours.
I appreciate you taking the time and effort to include us in your adventures.
Will he be squaring off the logs take them stackable ?
And how big of a back stop will he need ?
    8 1/2 inches by 13 inches?
    😊😊😊😉
He could fit five sticky notes on a piece of notebook paper .

LOL! I think he will be be doing something different than the 100 metre range. He wants to interlock the cants up to I think, about 6 feet, he said. Will be a different build. Stay tuned!

Good job! Have you considered upsizing your tractor. Some of those shots of you going over stones or "hills" looked like you were pretty tippy! I think you would be safer and happier with a wider wheel base.

Hey good evening Andy. Yes. I have. We were just debating about that recently (again). Guy's L series has much wider footprint and wider rear tires and much more weight and seems to manage the undulations much more confidently for sure. certainly something I have been considering for a while. For my own needs, the LX is perfect but I do a lot off my property. Thanks!

Looks great Gord and Guy, it's coming along fine and the wood(trees) isn't going to be wasted. As long as Guy remembers to carry his LEVEL and checks on you you will get it down pat FOR SURE. It's not the easiest thing to concur if you're felling trees daily but like everything else it will come with practice. You are doing good with your felling of trees and getting better always. Stay safe and keep up the good videos and fun you all have around there. Fred.

How's she goin'? It may have taken a long to to clear the snags and hang ups, but at least you were in the woods and there were no black flies!! LOL Take 'er easy!!

Hey Gord your saw always cuts so good. Question .. do you sharpen them yourself ? Just curious. Thanks for sharing. Craig. Pa.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 4 měsíci +1

Hey Craig. Yes sir - it takes a little while to learn. I watched a ton of videos from Bucking Billy Rae etc and I stopped using the 2-in-1 sharpener and started trying to learn how to hand file. It has a learning curve for sure, but boy, it is so much more satisfying to get out there and throw the big chips - your saw drops through the hardwood like butter. It is a morning exercise with a coffee, before we head out into the forest. Cheers!
