It's sad they have to get drunk to even open up and/or talk to a person. Resided in Sweden and they seem like this. Just going on a morning stroll and saying hi to a person you see every morning going for a walk is out of the ordinary.

I mean, even in more social societies it still helps. Obviously the Northern Europeans take it to the extreme. As someone who comes from the US, there is definitely a capability to socialize without alcohol, but the downside is that much of that talking is just small talk for the sake of making noise. Like it's interesting (and unhealthy in its own way) seeing how horribly uncomfortable people can get here if everyone just sits there in silence, yet people in a country like Finland will just huddle around a fire to drink and merely enjoy each other's physical company / presence.

@@Shirumoon Scandinavians (at least Swedes and Norwegians) tend to drink mostly during the weekends. When we actually do drink we do it properly (get wasted) which makes it easier for everyone to socialize. I think that’s why they’re mentioning alcohol so much. It’s basically the easiest and most common way to meet new people here. Although this is almost exclusively during the weekends or the holidays, regular weekdays we barely drink and if we do it’s mostly light stuff which might be the answer to why we statistically drink less than in other cultures where it’s normal to have one glass every day.

Im Aussie and it sounds like people in Norway and Australia are similar in some aspects. In Anglo and Celtic Australian cultures people rely on alcohol to have fun and open up emotionally. Another similarity is the pressure to appear equal and not stand out too much. Wearing visibly expensive brands or showing off luxury goods can be really frowned upon but at the same time there is a big wealth gap here, its just more hidden. My partner grew up in ankther country and it still shocks me to see him wear luxury brands (he buys them from an outlet) in public as it is considered to be poor taste by the standards of how I grew up.

I was born in Minnesota so there was a fairly high number of Norwegian Americans there. They can seem cold, distant, quiet and reserved so I’ve heard people complain about their “lack of friendliness”. There’s a positive flip side to this stereotype though, once they gauge you as trustworthy and that you can mind your own business, they would give you the shirt off their backs. They also tend to be good employees, good neighbors & good bosses.

Regarding to the alcohol. My husband is Norwegian and he rarely drinks. In his friends and family circle is not common to drink either. People do drink lots coffee though, I meet up with Norwegian friends over coffee/tea and cakes(home baked of course).... I don't feel people need alcohol to speak to. Maybe to have small talks with a complete stranger, perhaps it is not their thing, but if you are in work place, your friends circle, or you are in a hobby club, society, etc you just talk with people like anywhere else. Norwegians are very easy going, friendly and fun. They are easier to get along with than the Swedes and Danes in my opinion, perhaps because they have less population, and the oil money make their society less competitive, everyone is just chill and at peace.

Yeah, what about suicides that it’s forbidden to talk?
Don’t think they get used to it.

Norwegians drink very little alcohol - only 50% of the EU average. We also drink weak beer with a low alcohol content.

Hahaha, yeah of course, that’s why you have all those restrictions on alcohol 🤣🤣🤣.
You can’t buy hard alcohol in regular stores, can’t buy alcohol in stores on Sunday, on Saturday no alcohol after 06:00 pm, weekdays after 08:00 pm. Vinmonoppolet is working from 10am - 06pm, on Saturday 10am - 04pm.
In bars they have bartenders and security that needs to tell you when to stop drinking or force you to drink water or they kick you out ect.
Yeah, you don’t drink too much 🤣🤣🤣, you definitely know how to drink and behave when drunk 🤣🤣🤣.
      You’re funny dude 🤣🤣🤣.

I would describe most of Norwegians as “super sweet and naive little kids that are also a bit…neurospicy”.

Alcohol seems to fix shyness for every culture. It’s universally used as an excuse to open up. I find tall blondes attractive from the Nordic counties but that std comment was a huge turn off.

I mean a doctor And hairdresser salary same
    Wtf is this?
This is not equality, this is u justice to their profession,
A doctor takes almost 10 years to become a doctor with High stressful study
A hairdresser who any one can become without even study
    Just high school student
    Earning equal
Pay structure is best in Usa
By giving equal salary doesn't make it sense of equality.
    Every profession has its hierarchy.
