In my experience, swedes don’t tend to do the casual dating the way they do in the US. We don’t really date for the sake of it, but rather because we want to get to know that particular person. I also feel like the whole pressure of being in a relationship is a lot less here than in other places, hence when we meet someone it is usually because we like them as a person, and not just because we want a boyfriend or girlfriend.

When I date, it’s because I want to be with that specific person, I don’t date for friendships.

Swedish man who has dated quite a lot here. It's no wonder that it's like that in dating, because even if most things were in the man's favor
before not everything was, I think many men look forward to, for example that girls take the first step as often as men, or ask men out to the same extent as men do. For many men I think they see it will be one of their gains with more equalit, unfortunately we are not there yet.

I live in Sweden and swedes are generally well intentioned , I am sure they would invite but when you go out with your friends and drinks cost minimum 15 euros it puts the mood down and forces to split a bit
Problem is that the high cost of living for leisure kind of ruins the party mood, and if you invite people éventually will give it back to you so it is about to show that we can have a more convivial approach and then Swedes are hooked 🤗

Well intentioned is more of a self-evaluation on their part. When it comes to the jobs market, they're mostly frauds and liars, the company people that is. Whether when you are applying for a job or have signed a contract, they will try to find as many loopholes as possible, and they make outrageous claims of a shortage of workers while firing hundreds of workers. Volvo is a fine example of engaging in such scams, and getting away with it legally. Ruining peoples lives.

One thing that has to be added is that dating doesn't necessarily need to be a thing here.... Sure, of course, people are dating, we have dating apps, even hookup culture etc. But most people I know just met their partners through school, work, friends or at a party. That initial spark tends to happen naturally and organically in settings like those. An important aspect for a lot of Swedes (I think) is to feel a meaningful and emotional connection with another person. Dating, at least to me feels much more like an imported "American concept" that turns love into a commodity where there is a big focus on consuming goods and services and where it is implied that men should "show off" to swoon girls. I think most Swedes just like a more natural settings. The biggest cultural difference I can come to think of is that there isn't a large divide between genders. A friend of mine threw a big birthday get-together just a week ago, and we were basically just a big group of mixed adults ranging from 25-45 year olds, everyone was interacting with one another in a very mixed setting, gender, age or sexual orientation didn't really matter, and people mingled around quite organically. Something that objectively felt quite unique compared to what I have witnessed when traveling abroad (where people tend to group up in guy groups and girl groups)

This is what I'm hearing. Swedish women want some traditional traits from men without being traditional women themselves. The men are more feminine and don't question certain aspects of roles. My question would be if they were asleep and they heard a thump in the middle of night that sounded like someone was in their house, then who's going to go check on it? The woman or the man? Who's carrying the heavier items in the house?

Before you pack your bags and start singing ABBA songs, here are the things you need to know before moving to Sweden, my friend. First of all, the weather is as unpredictable as a Swedish fish playing hide-and-seek in a fjord. One minute it's sunny and beautiful, next minute you're hit with a blizzard straight out of Frozen. Secondly, forget about personal space - Swedes take their "lagom" attitude seriously and won't invade your bubble. But beware, they might confuse politeness for introversion, so don't be surprised if your icebreaker joke doesn't land like an Ikea furniture manual translation. Oh, and did I mention the majestic beauty of nature? From picturesque lakes to stunning forest landscapes, Sweden will give your Instagram feed a serious case of envy. Lastly, brace yourself for an invasion of surströmming - fermented fish that can clear a room faster than you can say "IKEA meatballs." Embrace the quirks though because once you get past them, living in Sweden will make you feel like part of their cozy little family.

I feel the most common way to get a boyfriend/girlfriend in sweden is still through your social circles. It might be a friend of a friend or someone that goes to the same activity on the weekend or someone from school. Other then that dating apps are not super uncommon. Just picking someone up at a bar or in town seems super weird, we don't really engage with strangers. 1. Swedish girls in most situations when you been here long enough always shut men down in different ways and are very cold, so asking girls out turns into a big negative situation(not worth it) as in other countries.
    2. Tinder desensitise an already very private social structure.
    3. Nothing said as good qualities in this video by the people interviewed is generally seen as something positive in Swedish society.

As a Swede this series of videos talking about Swedish social culture has verily helped me gain a very good perspective on the whole dating situation here (I'm 24) as I've been trying to figure it out, decode it in a way. See, I'm not your typical Swede, I'm a traditionalist in many regards, old school, and you guessed it, makes it a lot harder to date here with all the casual hookups.
But now that I've gained better understanding, not only of dating in general, but this aspect of Swedish culture in particular, I feel like I should be able to find me a good match (out here in the snow). What really got me was the redhead girl encouraging us guys to not be so Swedish (coconutty) and actually be more direct and more brave. I've always been a person who stick out (a long haired creative with a mystic mind) and always been very masculine by nature, so I feel like this won't be a problem for me now that I got the confirmation that it is actually the better way to go. I've naturally already been taking this approach doing cold approaches and generally been more social with strangers, which's fun, I really like it most of the time, and I can honestly say that I've gotten some really great interactions, smiles I'll never forget.
However, finding a good woman to match my old school standard might prove to be difficult since this culture is so secular and progressive. But who knows, maybe some women out here are tired of meowing around and just want to settle down and have a family, I believe so. Though I might just travel to the eastern countries where traditionalism is already ingrained in the culture, just to better my odds.

    • @Ca11mero
      @Ca11mero Před 3 měsíci

It's more a matter of what you call "dating" I would say. When people think of "dating", it's more or less the way it's done in the US (and other countries).
From what I know, most of the Nordic countries have worked this way:
You meet people through various activities like parties, work, school, hobbies and so on. You find someone you like and you start to hang out outside of that activity. After a while there is this strange period of "are we together or what?". If both have the same thoughts about it, then it's also "public", but most people would already know by then anyway.
So there haven't been much of inviting someone over for dinner, buying drinks, going to restaurants, taking someone to an event etc. And as you might have guessed by now, alcohol has been a important part of "opening up" people to each other. Quite a few friends I have met their partners though getting in bed together at midsummer. @@newwaveinfantry8362

Hello good day, this is a great video. I think Scandinavian cultue is a very very special thing.
I just wanted to mention that I was a little shocked when after the talk of the woman in minute 6:30 she then said that swedish women would actually like that men be more galant... It seemed counterintuitive to me as she mentioned things like "swedish females are pretty independant, it´s not our greatest achievement or goal in life to get married", "dating a swedish woman you have to be confident and let her do her own thing." This all gives the impression that they would not approve much of the galant behaviour she describes as "american". What is funny is at the end SHE AND HER FRIEND both say the would "enjoy it if swedish men did that more (reffering to the galant things listed before).
Anyway I just thought it would be funny to mention this, hope somebody reads it and answers.

Keep in mind that in Sweden they don't even prepare food for their children's friends when they come over to play. Swedish families will eat lunch with their child while expecting their guest to sit in another room with no food. That's the cultural context in which Swedish men don't pay on dates. It's more because they don't have a culture of hospitality and are socially stunted, not because of gender equality.

To me, it seems like a very equal country like Sweden and Scandinavia in general strips away men's hunter nature. We know in general women won't approach men. These women need to increase their approaching rate and be okay with being turned down by men to actually make it someone what equal. While the Scandinavian guys are reputed to be tall and pretty everything that the USA women always talk about.
For a foreign woman going there, the question would be are you ready to make the approach?do you actually believe in equality and practice what you preach?.
Those guys seem the really embody equality without some afterthought. They don't seem to have that ''you wanted equality this is what you get attitude'' like in the USA etc.. Well, im sure most Swedish women will prefer dating Swedish guys in the end. From this interview, I can see why a foreign man from the USA.uk, and Spain. Australia and Canada could get there and get some positive results because their own men seem passive and dont approach.

Everytime she got to work in fruit picking or agriculture related jobs the money was given to the husband Because that was the law. Women were basically cattle, working for shelter and food.
