I think the sting of not reaching the Stanley Cup has him completely focused on the season ahead, no time for revelling in personal glory or achievements, 💯team success etc I'm not even sure his celi after the goal didn't have much more to do with tying up the game than it did running thru 4 guys and scoring. He'd be happier to never score another goal and win the cup than get 300 points and lose in the playoffs.

I wouldn't say deserve it but are finally making good decisions at the roundtable. They had 1st rounders: Yakupov, Hall, Nugent-Hopkins, Draisatl, etc. but now they are finally doing something. It was a management that was our problem really. We should have been at this stage years ago but it was because of the Old Boys club Kevin Lowe, McTavish, Coffey, that put us there. Not to mention, Chirelli who was terrible and not fit to practice. We now have a proven, competent GM: Ken Holland, who is not related by blood or has ties the stupid glory years eons ago.

The new proline rules rock where you can bet on only one game!

Lowe, McTavish, Buchberger, and their ilk created a negative culture all around this team. As soon as they hit the road, players like Hopkins and Jesse P could step back into the team and start developing into their potential.
Goalies are a different point. Edmonton has had some terrific keepers over these last 15 years, but the teams in front of them had downed tools, in silent protest over their bosses. Keepers only shine with good defenders and backchecking forwards. Koskinen is fine and Smith is good. They don't need to tie up another $5 million of cap space there.

Those ranger players were literally too scared to even touch him because they know the refs were HOPING to see any sort of contact to call a penalty. Without hitting, fighting, or any reasonable physicality, hockey will lose it's credibility and authenticity.
