- Using a jerk bait for bass can tricky but most of the time it’s hard to do it incorrectly.
Boondooma dam is a cool lake to fish with lots of different ways to catch bass, jerk baits have to be up there with one of my favourite ways to catch bass.

Sick video Dean! Love that sounder footage
Appreciate it! thanks legend
Nice man.
Thanks!
Nice work mate, you make it look so easy. Plus, I also have beard envy 😂 🤙🏻
Nice one! hahahahaha
That’s was a epic video Dean Thankyou so much you have really helped out refining techniques using jerk baits. Maybe one day I’ll get your autograph on one of my fishing shirts 👍🏻
thanks heaps mate, much appreciated. Comments like these help motivate me to make more videos
@@DeanSilvester Hi Dean , on the weekend I got to try out your technique with jerk baits , I’m in a kayak using 7ft rod so I had to adjust how I did it. But I caught 5 bass and dropped 5 bass as I didn’t get the hook set. But what you showed us has also showed me how to think out of the box and modify a lure to make it work for me. As I could see what the lure was doing at times and could see how I could improve the lure or improve what I’m doing to make the lure do what I want it to do. I really appreciate
you showing us that video Thankyou once again. 👍🏼
Already loved fishing with the jerkbaits. Livescope makes it even better!
So fun, just have to be careful not to strike too early 😂😂
great video mate
Thanks 👍
🤔 awesome vid mate
Thanks 👍
Quality video, as always
Much appreciated!
Great video mate. Those squirrels must be pretty good as I see you using them a lot. I'll have to suss them out!!
bass love them too haha
@@DeanSilvester looks like it! I reckon they'd slay the big sootys up in NQ too, I'm keen.
I have tried jerkbaits a couple of times for sooties and haven't done that well but they do love reaction lures up there which is fun, and have caught a bunch on glide baits as well.
Nice video Dean
And that place gets cold as miss fishing there as you can adapt so many techniques looks heaps low too a few of my marks would be high and dry now
yeah its the lowest i have seen it, it has been lower though that i know of. Seems to fish similar though even though its low
Really gotta get this down packed, I'll try the shorter jerks think mine could be too long
Just think, you don't ever want to feel the lure swimming/vibrating. Its a twitch. What Jerkbaits do you use?
@@DeanSilvester jackal I believe, also so cheap brand ones I picked up years ago. But im still new to it. Only really started 8 months ago flicking lures. Was bait or trolling.
Great little tips for jerk baiting mate👍
Cheers mate, such a fun way to fish
Great video mate. Got to love little boondooma dam. Whats your biggest saratoga from there ?
I have never chased toga in boondooma only in borumba and from memory it was 97cm in borumba. Have had a few crazy topwater sessions in that place for toga
@@DeanSilvester 97cm dam what a fish. My PB is 73cm. Hit the lure as soon as it hit the water. And even flew out of the water.
Yep they are acrobatic little fellas haha! so fun
Thanks for the video. I liked how you explained the technique and also talked us through how you fish the areas you did and why. I have never used a jerk bait, and will definitely try now.
Glad it was helpful! They are the funnest way aside from topwater to catch a bass. Its only going to get better now as the water warms up
@@DeanSilvesteri it good jerkbaiting during summer for bass?
Great video as usual Dean. Keep them coming.
More to come! thanks legend
I’m off to glenbawn next week hopefully I can replicate your jerkbait technique 😃
mate, you will have a blast. Great time of the year for jerkbaiting in that place
Great vid mate!! Love your freshwater stuff, great tip about using the bigger squirrels. I’ll start using them more!
thanks for tuning in mate, always happy to help out
Awesome video it isn’t super easy always too catch bass when it is hot but you sure know where too find them my favourite summer bait is a black Texas rigged senko and pumpkin seed tubes!
wicked mate, i have never had any luck in the usa fishing a senko haha too impatient maybe
@@DeanSilvester yessir make sure too checkout my channel I would appreciate it I am still very young but I am improving a lot!
doing well so far mate
@@DeanSilvester awesome 👏
Hey, Mate! I switched out my treble hooks for Mustad #4's. I have to remind my self. How sharp these treble hooks really are. Bass fishing is still tough this summer. Waiting for the fall frenzy to start. Thanks, Again for the fishing Hats. Wishing you nothing but wet lines and live wells full of Bass. Shawn .
haha, did you see KVD also found out how sharp they are again the other day with one stuck in his foream. Ouch. Thanks as always mate
@@DeanSilvester No, But I will look up the video. Those Whopper Plopper hooks are viscous too. A one pounder wiggles alot and Bam! Now, He's hooked and so are you. Then the Wriggling starts. Oh, That hurts! Mate! Shawn.
haha makes me shiver at the thought of it.
Awesome video mate. Loving the bass content again!
Glad to hear it!
How are you finding active target Dean ?? Have you compared it to any of the competitors??
mate i love it, such a cool way to fish. I can't give an unbiased answer on that mate, i used garmin once on a trip and didn't like it but thats more to do with not liking the interface etc with their units and thats mainly because i am so used to Lowrance and Simrad interfaces.
Hey Dean, good to see the different technique. Looks like a half way between bream and Barra style fishing. Good Fishing 🎣 👍
Pretty much! haha! heaps of fun on jerkbaits, i don't mind what i am catching on jerkbaits to be honest from trout to barra
Great video mate, i haven't been up there for years. Look forward to the next video
Thanks mate, next one is killer. Finally got it dialled by the afternoon haha
@@DeanSilvester haha yes can't wait then. Look forward to it. Even more Dialed then all the spoons out on the deck hahaha
💯 mate! Way better haha
how do you find the lures track when got the dots on em???
still work perfect mate
@@DeanSilvester thank you for your input, as I seem to find they float way to quick on the down time of my pause as I leave it hanging there abit long in my case...cheers again as I will definitely give it a try(atomic) ones?
Yeh spend the time to get he suspend properly with dots or different hooks and rings and you will get more takes on the pause thats for sure.
That boy was almost bigger then that bait ball.
Atleast you got out to fish and bring us more great content.yyyeeewwe
thanks legend and love the name haha Tiller Gorilla
@@DeanSilvester i thought it suited.🤣
awesome
Have you ever used the Jackall Chubby's on the Bass Dean?
I sure have mate, one year in st clair they were all over them but haven't done much since.
@@DeanSilvester They work on our local impoundment Bass down here in the central tablelands fairly consistently. The Megabass Siglett or Megabass Grand Siglett top water go well also.
Whats your local mate, yes i used to use the siglett many years ago in St Clair and Glenbawn. I found if you run a swivel and two split rings (one each end of the swivel for attachment) to the treble you get a much better hook up rate
@@DeanSilvester Lake Lyell. We run a single hanging assist-hook, works well.
@@FishandHunt Yeah nice, i don't think i have ever fished Lyell. Don't you have big trout in there as well?
Catching bass is better then sitting on your .......
hahaha so true!
I’m gonna try adapt this tomorrow at Maroon. I know you said the 67 squirrels aren’t as good for the technique but I don’t have any 79s haha!
I like the 61's for maroon mate, let me know how you go
@@DeanSilvester I went, ended up fishing a weedless rigged plastic and got 4 plus 30s off the edge up the back. Going again Saturday so will give the smaller ones a go
wicked mate, glad you got a few
Cheers for the vid. Will have to swap out the trebles on my Barra Jackalls. What size you running?
i don't replace the trebles boss, the DD comes with bass trebles and is set up to suspend with those hooks and the super DD hank tune is set up with barra hooks etc to suspend with those.
Hey champion! Frothin the vids
If it’s not too intrusive to ask I’m looking at building a boat as a project over time and am liking the style of how you built yours. Just a rough price how much do you think you’ve spent on her all up? Minus the Sounders/Motor/s
Thanks mate! 🎣🍻
Minus all the electronics etc it was about 1500 eva and 1200 on aluminium for the flooring etc
