    The last three giant pandas living in the US capital Washington were flown back to China on November 8, 2023. The trio, including Mei Xiang, Tian Tian and their three-year-old cub Xiao Qi Ji, will arrive in China’s southwestern city of Chengdu, home to most of the nation’s giant pandas. Beijing has been lending pandas to the US and other nations for decades as a symbol of friendship in what is known as “panda diplomacy”. Several of the animals in the US, however, have been returned against a backdrop of rising bilateral tension.

    Memphis Zoo abused Le Le to death and Ya Ya.
    Smithsonian National Zoo neglected Mei Xiang and artificially inseminated her 18 times! When Mei Xiang was in old age, National Zoo still proceeded to inseminate her and put her at risk of death. Small food portions to starve Tian Tian and Mei Xiang. Poor enclosure hygiene.
    US Zoos aren't capable of properly taking care of these beloved creatures!
    Return and let these giant pandas retire with peace.

    Since the instance of abusive treatment of Ya Ya at US, China should have this new rule for panda leaving for abroad "Should there any physical or psychological health issue, China can request that the panda be back immediately, any costs incurred should be the responsibility of the other country."

    The statement in the video is very incorrect. China has never given away pandas on its own initiative. Why is it said that pandas are China’s diplomatic means? Except for China gifting two pandas to the United States in 1972, pandas from other countries, including the United States, are all leased after 1972. The rent for a panda is US$1 million per year. You can understand that this is a commercial behavior, but you think it is a diplomatic means. , you don’t have to rent it at all. What does this have to do with diplomacy?

    • @Br0nto5aurus
      @Br0nto5aurus Před 7 měsíci

      The video was pretty clear. China uses pandas to soften their image on the international stage. That's a diplomatic move, and doesn't mean money isn't also exchanged. I'm certain China would rather keep their pandas than have the money, but the diplomacy is worth it.
      If you need a closer-to-home example: I like my house, I don't want to sell it, even for what it's worth financially. If someone offered me influence or power if I sold my house, I might consider selling. That doesn't mean I would give my house away just for influence or power, but that I would sell my house for influence and power. The money is a given. That's how China feels about the pandas.

    0:22 "The animals were fluffy gifts from Beijing". They're not really gifts. Foreign zoos pay about $1 million a year 'rental fee' to China, and all pandas, including all their offspring, belong to China and must eventually be returned. So gifts, no. Leases would be more correct.
    I have only seen one panda in my life, in the Shanghai zoo. It was pretty quiet and a bit dusty looking, but so were most of the animals in the zoo. I'd rather watch a sparrow fly outside my window than see pandas in a zoo. Not because I think it's cruel, but I just find animals in cages and zoos and circuses boring to look at.
