China’s “new flying fish” Pan Zhanle, who clinched two gold medals at the Paris Olympics, disbanded his only official Weibo fan group on August 12, 2024. Pan’s decision has been praised as a knock against the growing escalation of so-called fandom culture, which many believe has eroded traditional sportsmanship.

If he lets excessive and unnecessary adulation get into his head, it’s the beginning of his downward decline. Let him just focus on improving his swimming technique.
After we all witnessed what Pan Zhanle had accomplished at the Olympics, there’s still room for more world records from him in the future. This man is simply “Pantastic”.

And it's really sad too because for all the gold medalists, there are thousands who didn't make it. At least in China, many ended up without any other skills since there was a singular mission of gold medals. That kind of single-minded focus leaves a lot of people behind.

During Tokyo 2021, it was the CHINADA (Chinese Doping Agency) that reported to WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) because their food that Chinese swimmers ate was tested to had one in a trillionth percent of an illegal drug. The reason why 23 were tested positive was because they all ate the same food cooked by the Chinese chefs which all has that drug. Also, the drug was found to be steroids, which is common in foods like eggs, meat, and fish, although they are not synthetic anabolic steroids. One in a trillionth percent will almost do nothing in terms of athletic performance. This makes it likely that it could be the result to If you are into statistics, we should also make the argument that American athletes have 6x higher chance of doping compared to Chinese athletes according to Hindustan Times article published April 2024. Historically, Indians have the highest chance of doping, and Chinese/ Japanese has been the lowest; American athletes are in the middle. Note that Chinese athletes also get tested the most, meaning they have a low chance even after high testing.
