  • The giant panda cub, born in August at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C., is a star attraction, with an online audience via the zoo's "Panda Cam." Correspondent Rita Braver reports on the birth of Xiao Qi Ji (whose name means "little miracle" in Chinese), and the shared efforts of China and the United States to protect a threatened species. There are very dedicated Smithsonian Panda Cam watchers who create daily videos for everyone to enjoy. These are some very special people who have made watching the pandas and getting our daily fix much easier by editing to show the best parts of the day. I religiously watch at least one video every single day. Without fail, no matter what is going on in the world, Mei, Qi Ji and Tian Tian make it all better. Thank you so much, Mr. Rubenstein, Marty, Murial and everyone else involved in their lives. We are very proud of how well they are cared for. They are all very happy and it shows 🐾🖤

    I saw a small cage for QiJi and his mother. The mother barely can't move. The baby cry for milk, but the zoo didn't feed the mother enough to have enough milk for the baby. China should take them home before they ended up like Le Le or Ya Ya.

      Sorry, but this is nonsense!!- I just hope that China will take comparably fine care of them, with all the trimmings!!- 🥲 (In China, they once resorted to yelling & hitting some of their pandas with sticks to make them breed-? I know they desperately sought to aid breeding, but that just seemed mean, stressful, & inhumane?!. Plus, studies confirm that pandas like to pick their own mates!!) Well, the U.S. Pandas NEVER had any mistreatment like that, ever!!- Certainly, everyone was kindly & gentle to them!- 💗🐼

    I have only seen a few clips of the baby pandas at the National Zoo in Washington DC, but what strikes me is their endless loneliness. Would you have been happy playing alone throughout your childhood? There are many videos that show the baby pandas being extremely afraid of the workers. It is concerning that a 3-year-old panda would show a scared reaction upon seeing a worker. What have these workers done to the pandas? Has the National Zoo in Washington DC mistreated and abused these adorable pandas? If the workers do not love the pandas, they should return them to China where they can receive proper care.

      Yes. I totally agree with you. If the Smithsonian Zoo CAN'T AFFORD to look after the panda, please send the Tian Tian family (Mother Mei Xiang, Father Tian Tian and Baby Little Miracle) back to China.
      Why is the Smithsonian Zoo treating the pandas so HORRIBLY. Recently they sprayed water jet at Little Miracle when he was looking for his mother Mei Xiang? We could see the little guy running scaredly away trying to avoid the harsh water jet. The zoo keepers also give old and hard bamboos for the family (Mother Mei Xiang, Father Tian Tian and Baby Little Miracle) to eat. Sometimes can see Little Miracle eating the grass because there is nothing for him to eat. Then the Zoo keepers separating the mother from the child. Poor Little mIracle alone by himself, looking for mommy and daddy. Even daddy Tian Tian behavior now and look is similar to Ya Ya, frail and listless, before she was thankfully brought back to China from that horrible Memphis Zoo where one panda (Le Le) died. Please, if the Smithsonian Zoo CAN'T AFFORD to look after the pandas please send them back to China. Please don't let another casualty happen. Please don't let Tian Tian or Mei Xiang or even Little Miracle die too soon!

      No they aren’t abused. They’re solitary creatures and they aren’t scared of them, they’re actually never in the same area as the keepers for safety. It’s more likely a reaction of slight unfamiliarity as they don’t really interact.

    • @Mets2015WorldSeries
      @Mets2015WorldSeries Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@nmn2406they’re old. Really old actually. Mei Xiang is the oldest living panda in the world right now if I remember correctly, if not she may be the oldest female alive. Plus tian is also very old and they actually separated qi ji and mei at a very old age, usually in the wild they separate around 1.5-2 years old, and qi ji only got separated 6 months ago, at 3 years old.

      @@Mets2015WorldSeries - Yes, these Pandas have been very loved and spoiled in the USA!!- :) They have the most beautiful, big yards to enjoy, too!!- I think it's great how the Nat. Zoo makes sure that they have time to romp, climb trees, and naturally interact with their mother!!.. In other countries, sometimes the mother pandas don't even care for or Nurse their own cubs (?!), which is SO critical for their personalized Health and Nutrition!.. But, the Nat. Zoo has been very successful with allowing ALL of these 4 Cubs to have 100% Natural Milk from their own mother. Plus, they receive plenty of nurturing, bonding, playtime, and cleaning directly from their very loving mother, Mei Xiang, which is the absolute Best for them, overall!!-💖🐼

    This zoo mistreats pandas. They have been not only starving the Meixiang panda family, but have continuously used electric shock and artificial insemination for many years on them from 2000 until now (24 times for Meixieng panda and 22 times for Tian Tian panda).
    Please stop mistreat Meixiang, Tian Tian and Xiao Qiji.😭😭😭

      This is not true. There’s no electric shock and if there is it’s very minimal. Plus they don’t artificially inseminate every year, they’ve only done it around 5-6 times in 24 years. Please don’t spread misinformation, they are treated incredibly well.

      2 out of 6, very high survival rate actually. Around 50% of panda cubs don’t live until they are a year old. The only deaths are a twin (one is always abandoned in the wild and it’s still rare for both to survive) and one died from pneumonia in 2012.

    Um isn’t it natural selection to go extinct like dinosaurs? Most Pandas in captivity or out in nature can’t even mate on their own, so it’s not like we humans are killing them to begin with. Are Pandas really crucial in the food chain of things?

    • @anonmouse6337
      @anonmouse6337 Před 2 lety +3

      Pandas mate fine in the wild. It's captive pandas that have trouble because of lack of libido or bc they just don't know how to do it.
      Humans are the main reason for the panda's vulnerable status, through habitat destruction and (previously) hunting.
      As for the ecosystem, panda poop fertilises forests and spreads seeds.
