  • I finally got around to installing a brush guard on my Kubota MX5400. This project took me about an hour to complete. My Kubota MX5400 has about 100 hrs on it, so I've been pretty lucky not to have any issues with tree limbs and branches wreaking havoc on it. The next project for the MX5400 is to add lights on the ROPS rollover bar.

Looking good. I like your tool cart..... great choice. In my younger days I worked in a muffler shop as a wheel mechanic (shocks, brakes, struts, front end parts) and smooth wore out one of those carts.... they are great as you know. As always thanks for the video.

Thanks Jules! That cart comes in handy, I don’t have to hunt as much for a tool anymore!! Stay safe, Ed

The guard looks great! an excellent addition to the Kubota. I wonder if it will help keep that intake air vent clear from all the weeds debris and crap that pops up when brush hogging! Nice work :)

Thank you for the video. What size bolts did you end up using?

Dang! You just reminded me to change them out :-) So far no issues...

I wondered if you’d take the loader off. I never like working under the raised loader. I couldn’t see any cylinder stops, maybe I just didn’t look close enough. I have the Mx 6000 and I have to raise loader to clean pre screen. Thanks for sharing.

I do agree, taking the loader off is the safest way, I thought about it for about 3 seconds and decided against it. I tried to stay off to sides the best I could. You make a great point and I should have addressed safety. Thanks for watching!!

@@UpNorthNybergs the only reason I mentioned it was because I crawled under a brand new corn head on a combine and pulled a hair pin out. I slid back out and corn head came crashing to ground. I have never since crawled under anything hydraulic. God was sure watching me that day.

@@davidcharles3131 Dang!!! Good lesson for sure, I am usually cautious around equipment, but need to do better!!
      Glad you didn’t get injured!!

How does it affect your lighting? We have a MX6000 and I always wonder if these guards limit your headlights. Do you think you'll need to ad a lightbar to your ROPS for snowblowing? We have a cab so the extra lights at the top of the cab would compensate. We'd like to ad a grapple so a front guard will be important, but I'm leaning more toward expanded metal that you can see through a bit more. Interested in what you think of this over time.

Hey Andy, great question…it absolutely does affect lighting. I bought some Artillian ROPS lighting, that is my next project ;-)
I want to get a grapple too…need to add a third function first though. Thanks for watching!!
