    I think YYH did have a compelling Romance for a Battle Shonen of its time. It wasn't just crush or love triangle like most Battle Shonen, Yusuke -Keiko relationship actually progressed pretty well throughout the series at believable pace.

    This video is just amazing and as someone who has been following the manga for years now (I started reading it on the day the first episode of the anime adaptation aired) I feel disappointed that this manga never got the popularity it deserved (I blame it on the horrible anime adaptation which probably turned others away from it).
    But to me what I really like about it is how it manages to build up the characters and create a world that feels organic. A lot of shonen tend to have a problem wherein they delve deep into the main characters and constantly just show how they get stronger and consider the side characters as just part of the story. Sousei feels different because of how much it puts emphasis on character interactions as well as giving proper screen time for its side characters. It makes the story more immersive since you're seeing the world from all perspectives rather than just seeing it through the perspective of its main characters, as well as going into detail about how side characters share a bond with other side characters just makes it feel even more natural.

    • @NINJAMUSHI
      @NINJAMUSHI  Před 2 lety +6

      That's super cool to hear you got into the manga when the anime started! I didn't start it until Jan. of 2021 but I remember glancing at the anime when it was coming out and thinking "this doesn't look very good." I kinda assumed the same would be true of the manga but, all these years later, I was luckily wrong! I'm currently watching the anime (30ish episodes in) and it's just consistently a disappointment. I'm sure an even half way decent adaptation would've given the manga a boost in popularity. If anything, I think it may have hurt it in the long run.
      Totally agree with the side characters! I also really dig just how interconnected the cast is. It's like a big web of interpersonal relationships that all feed into the story and its themes. While this prior arc took a bit to get through, I'm glad the remaining few guardians had their stories fleshed out, leading to some nice character relationships!
      Thank you for the very nice comment!

    • @astigsyempre3490
      @astigsyempre3490 Před 2 lety +2

      @@NINJAMUSHI hopefully we can get a decent adaptation soon since the anime really didnt do the manga justice especially with how it treated the guardians and the basara.
      I'm curious though if the anime influenced the creation of some characters that didn't exist in the manga yet during the release of the anime (like kinako wasn't even part of the manga until a few months after the first episode aired iirc)

    • @NINJAMUSHI
      @NINJAMUSHI  Před 2 lety +3

      Oh yeah, it's kinda funny to imagine that Sukeno actually really liked/appreciated the anime adaptation. I mean, it may be trash to most TSE manga fans, but I'm sure it meant a lot to him to see an anime of it. I think even Rokuro's hair started being colored brown because of the anime, right? Either way, I'd love to see a better adaptation if it ever happened.

    I've been waiting for a vidéo like this about twin star for so long!
    I agree on every point. The way the romance is interwoven into the story and battle makes everything feel so natural, not just for Rokuro and Benio but for all the side characters that are part of a love story too. Love is clearly an important theme in the series, so seeing it elevate the story just how it elevates the characters is just wonderful to me.
    Thank you for making this video and vocolazing all of those points!

      Oh, I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed what I had to say! Thank you for the kind words! I know the fanbase for TSE is small but dedicated so, hopefully, I was able to add to that in some way.
      Also, that's a great point! I wanted to also touch on the side characters and their relationships but I felt it'd be best to keep the video a little shorter for the sake of convincing non-fans to check it out. The overarching theme of the manga is definitely learning to love and understand those that are different than ourselves (we're especially seeing that in more recent arcs), which is a positive message we should all take to heart. :)

      The anime only adapts the first few volumes (the weakest arc of the manga) and even that is done quite poorly. Some episodes from the beginning are entirely filler and, soon enough, everything becomes uninspired anime original story. I'm like 35ish episodes into the anime and have it rated at a 3/10 so far.
