Studio Pierrot honestly picked a fantastic series to adapt, but picked the worst time to do it. They made it waaaaay too early and this caused the anime to stray from its source material. However, I have to thank the anime for introducing me to this because it's genuinely fun, heart-warming, and action packed and I love it.

Unlike this offtopic case when the moment both Dragonball Super anime and its manga had "same story but different execution" is due to both are made at the same exact time (or sometimes anime first, manga later) just like the moment of "fused Zamazu were cloned instead of killed upon slashed in half" in manga at time after the anime episode of same arc/moment is finished,...
Yeah, that anime Twin Star Exorcists learned the hard way since they adapted it too early even the manga's arc isn't finished yet

      @narukamishirou284 Před 6 měsíci +1

And not only that: he healed the big hole in his chest but restored only back to his first form of right arm when Seigen's new black talisman was meant to strengten his right arm with not only unsealing more of his kegare power but also boosting it with an extra enchantment. In the manga, he doesn't use his kegare arm instead the final hand to hand brawl is literally Rokuro turning full human with immense Yang aura through the help of chibi Abe no Seimei cameo against full kegare form Yuto which is actually Yuto's strongest form. And then in the anime final battle against Yuto, Rokuro manages to use that form much longer but somehow knows how to activate it like a Devil Trigger. I agree on the part that the anime didn't have consistentcy

As someone who hasn't watched the anime or read the manga (and honestly only knows about this series because of you), I'm baffled. 50 episodes is a lot to plan in advance unless it's an extremely popular manga, which this obviously isn't (at least not in the West, no idea about Japan). If this was made in the 2000s it would probably make sense, but 2016? Usually the only series that get so many episodes right off the bat are Shounen Jump's big series and Gundam. From what you say about it, it sounds like the first arc could've been covered in half that or less, and that would fit right in with the ~12 episode seasonal anime productions that we've become used to since the rise of streaming.
Edit: oh, Studio Pierrot, that makes sense.

Spoiler for later half of the Manga:
I am 100% convinced Yoshiaki saw the Anime and thought: "F*ck no, they ruined my Manga!"
and Just plain made Rokuro + backstory better, Benjo actually stronger, took the anime Basara and made them far better with his changesand overall had better Story and pacing.
heck the VERY new Basara and the Basara Village are just mindblowingly good, world building wise.
Then again i should not be surprised at this point, since so many great series get a sh't adaptation.
    Berserk 2018 is Sh*t
Gunjo no Magmell anime didn't even cover the first F*cking Volume and didn't even introduce one of the 3 MAIN PROTAGONISTS, because apparently you can now do something like this?
UQ holder took one of the Main charakters and just cut him and his whole 2 and 1/2 volume Arc (not even starting on Negima)
Whatever the f*ck Terra formars season 2 is supposed to be?
Tokyo Ghoul in general was a trash adaptation.

Have been following the manga for the longest time. One thing I enjoyed the most is probably how freaking powerful those manga kegare are. This always make me on the edge of my seat compare to what the anime shown. Even made me hate monthly release. Plus I feel like it is because of these guy the character get to grow plus Yuta who joined their forces
    Spolier:
    1. Chinu: This one is basically the kegare goddess and judging for I have seen recently she probably just runaway before you even get to kill her.
    2. Sakanashi: remember the beginning of the chapter where he fight Arima, that already shows you how powerful this guy is. He is so powerful he survive the fight meanwhile his opponent did not.
Former 3: this one is from a novel, if I remember correctly this guy is kijin killer, he even stop the homing missile blade of kijin. I think he die due to the combine of Kijin, Suzaku, and Byakko.
3 Gabura: This one is over leveled up Rukuro and a mass killer. Just like former 3, Kijin alone cannot beat him.
4 twintail hijimaru: This one is almost unbeatable during that part of the story. He only die because of that resonance miracle and a lot of fighting.
5 Shiromi one can argue he is on part with 4, due can basically shapeshifter and combine anything. Only die because Arima
6 Kaguya: I remember it is the military uniform lady she was send to kill Benio, well she lost because Benio awaken and Kamui switch side plus awaken.
7 I forgot is it Gaja or shoji I will go with shioji this guy make zombie and can control other kegare. He die because he was caught off guard by Tatara
There’s also a former 7or 8 who Shoji replaced, she is from a spin off manga. That one is a bit weak just creat sleeper zombie to human. She die due to Byakku gang I think that includes Arima.
8 Gaja he is magneto and always survived
9 yuzuhara punch bag and not even awaken Benio beat her
10 Hagano king of lightning he only lost because of dark Benio, plus he only lost not die.
11 Kamui this one I say he survived due to plot

I think monthly release is good for two reasons:
      1. It gives the author more time to plan and pace the story perfectly without rushing anything (current arc is fire)
      2. Gives us more higher chance for a possible reboot in the future if the manga is good and gets famous.
      SPOILER:
I do hope this isnt the last arc cuz seeing kamui and suzu working together with roku has been a treat, and that only symbolizes the begining of kegare and exorcists working together to put out the real threat, the king of impurites. Gaja doesnt have a backstory if irc and gabura is still a complete mess.

I absolutely agree with you on the romance it felt slow and forced at times and still was not as good as described in your video though I do love the ending the episodes could have been better used like the episode where Benio’s master forces the two on a date feels like it could have been scrapped or rewritten especially when you know the master is probably only doing this because she wants to have a kid quicker I also hated the whole childhood friend love triangle because you knew the series was about benio and rokoro getting together so no amount out third wheeling or arguing could actually make me believe benio and rokoro weren’t getting together and honestly I am a thousand times more excited to read the manga because of your video

    Great work btw!
I know the SnO from the anime and I liked it because I was younger and didn't pay attention much to the story. The aesthetics, RokuBeni's relationship, and Tatara (hell yeah Tatara I love you pls marry me). Later on I found out it's an adaptation and ended up reading the manga after painstakingly searching for it. At that time I don't really pay attention to the difference in story. I do know there are differences.
Then I grew up and joins a SnO group in facebook for a while and gosh do I instantly realize the difference between the two. I ended up rereading the manga only to tell my younger self: "You're a fucking idiot dude". Especially the part you mentioned in the video (Benio holding him back) which makes me horrid. Like bro respects and have adoration towards her and they make him says that?? Damn.
Also they make my man Tatara ugly as hell in anime. Ik his face hasn't been revealed that time but ugh.
Despite all of that, I'm still kinda fond of it. It's the anime that makes me start reading mangas and kicking me deeper into animanga world. Not even Naruto nor Aikatsu has this big impact on my young weeb phase. Also the opening songs are great. I don't remember much about the ending atm. Guess I'll check them out.
Btw did you know that it used to have a mobile game? I played it once back in the time but deleted it cuz it's really shitty lmfao.
edit: Came back from watching the op & ed and all I could say is that it has wayyy better direction than the anime itself. Especially the endings.

As someone who never read the manga and watched this anime when i just started getting into the medium all together ,i think it was fine ,without knowing about the manga its an enjoyable decent show ,i think its pretty harsh to criticize the animation and consistency tho ,doing 50 episodes weekly for a studio that either was finishing Naruto or starting Boruto its stressful as hell ,so its not surprising that the art suffered ,even studios like Toei that do mostly one show all year still have problems doing consistent good animation on a weekly ,i agree with the sentiment about the story and character dynamics but i think the studio's should have some leeway when it comes to doing 2 shows at the same time .

As much as you may have liked it, many more people did not like the anime and will never give the manga a chance. I really hate that, so this video is more for the people that didn't like the anime to tell them that the manga is good, rather than a targeted attack on fans of the anime. In fact, if people like the anime, I just hope it will bring them to also read the manga, which is one of my favorite series. If you like the anime so much, I hope you check out the manga, too! I've been reading the manga, up to vol 20. atm. And man, the difference. It feels like were as the anime started to resemble the manga by the end, just somehow not as depressing which is saying a lot given how it goes, volumes 15-20 really went heavy. Also the Basara are absolutely relentless, which was something I heard was a major issue with the anime were they turned into chumps. The one upside to the manga, as heavy as it gets, I'm glad the guardians to show their stuff far more than the anime rather than what happened to them around the animes end which while sad, felt more like a plot convenience. The only thing I can give the anime over the manga
    - Sae: Found her to bring out Rokuo and Benio well.
    - OST: The Twin Star theme, Benio's Dance, Sorrowful fight etc
    - Subaru's earlier appearance: Subaru's my favorite guardian and maybe even my fave character, in fact her moments in the anime were half the reason I watched the anime early on, hoping I could see more of her. And I read the manga too just to possibly see more of her. Though ironically the manga so far has maybe even less appearances for her compared to the anime giving 2 were she plays a big part in some way. Though judging by what I've seen online, and what was shown in vol 20, we'll get far more to her than the anime character and power wise.
If they remake the anime to be more manga faithful, having certain guardians like Subaru appear earlier.

I watched it YEARS ago but I remember some aspects sticking out to me and I couldn't help but wonder why it didn't take off more. I forgot about most of the show but I figured that was more of a "me" thing and less than an issue, but watching this video- I forgot about the final enemy. Like outright. But I felt like this show had such a good set up. Romance, shonen protag archetype, a lil "13 court guards" type beat. But watching this video, I can very easily see why it never took off. Its chance was shot down before it could even really be launched and its a real shame.

I also agree they really butcher......sorry.....*undermined* the story and Rokuro Benio's Relationship by involving Kinako right from the beginning. Dude, I was so surprised when I started to read the manga and Kinako never appeared not until Rokuro arrived in Tsuchimikado island without Benio and hell he's not even as unbareable as he is in the anime. Compare to his anime counterpart, manga Kinako is way more supportive and bonded with Rokuro than his anime counterpart being a Benio fanatic.
Another thing they undermined is Kamui's arc with Benio and how he became the role of rival to Rokuro. Instead they made his character so bland he only wants a good fight that he only appears when the manga at the time (because definitely during production, the manga hadn't reached that chapter yet) showed him which was Benio's emotional struggle chapter and right at the final episodes fighting Abe no Seimei.
Another thing they undermined is the sheer cruelness of Arima's character as the leader of Exorcists. He's not always the clown of the story, he's the joker and heisenberg of the story. He cracks jokes and lame humor but when things are getting serious or when Rokuro Benio being too stubborn or jeopardize their values to him he will get serious even as far as silencing them with just a stare

Glad you were able to like it despite me totally hating it, you probably saw parts of what I love about the manga within the anime. You should for sure check out the manga! Only 1 of the 8+ current arcs were adapted, so there's a ton to dig into!

I actually read the manga when it only had a handful of chapters back in HS(god I feel old now), and I have been hoodes since. I heard about the anime back when Animax still walked the earth but when I actually sat down to watch I was immediately disappointed.

You know, I loved the anime so much that I binge watched it and cried. I am choosing to not watch the video(I live in my echochamber of love and happiness, no offense to you at all I'm sure you are correct based on what I'm seeing) and adding the manga to my to read list.
It's weird to see people hating on the anime, but I've learned long ago that my opinions on anime are considered controversial, (see profile picture(its one of my favorite shows))

And that's totally fine, I support people loving what they love. It's like I say at the end of the video, I wish I could feel any sort of love for it myself. That said, if you did love the anime so much, I do strongly encourage you to read the manga because it has everything you might have loved in the anime and takes it much further! Hope you are able to enjoy the manga as well when you get to it!

@@NINJAMUSHI I honestly wasn't expecting a reply based on this being a year old, so I was just shouting into the void of the internet at 3 am after a bingefest of anime, trying to cram in as much as I can from my crunchyroll free trial.
Now that I'm like properly awake, I definitely will check out the manga when I'm able to.
I completely understand your stance since I'm like that with the original FMA series. People praise it pretty often and I admit the style is great and I wish I could've loved the new story given to it, but something about it always felt off to me about the story, even before I had consumed any other fma material.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my silly comment, I really appreciate it.

I mean, I looked up the guy, and yeah, I know plenty of his roles, but I really don't feel anything towards the idea of him playing Rokuro. I guess it'd be okay? So yes, I am sure that it would do nothing to make the show better.

First of thank you for recommending reading the manga your video has definitely piqued my interest secondly not saying the video was horrible or anything I just think I like both the manga sounds and probably is better but the anime was my introduction into this universe and I still experienced all the highs and lows of it and thoroughly enjoyed myself like the part where benio gets her kagare legs it really does work for me because it shows that she has fully moved on from her past in the sense that she fully understands her brother can not ever be redeemed and cares for rokoro enough to make a deal with the person she hates who I think if I remember correctly killed her parents and accept being part kargare the “race” she sees as nothing but vile rokoro being the exception because he was forced to be infected all in order to save rokoro thirdly and again I am in no way discrediting your in my opinion the anime ending slaps even if the manga is better because the anime ending represents the fate our leads were supposed to have and throughout the entirety of the anime they were told the only way they could make the world truly better is if they follow the prophecy that everyone would be saved that the future would be alright but they chose to refuse this primarily because it’s bs to have a kid just to train it to fight that and once the kid would have been born the exorcist would have taken the kid to train it endlessly for duty which they do imply in the anime back on topic though the final enemy is a physical representation of that prophecy and the consequences for not following it everyone including the universe telling them that none of this would have happened if they just followed fate and the two’s defeat of the villain while plot armor bs is cathartic at least to me because it finally proves that they had legitimately broken that fate cast upon them fully no more bs or big threats for now and they can be happy without an issue thirdly I personally do not think the anime version of rokoro is terrible is he as good as the manga version absolutely not could he have been better absolutely but I still loved for example the scene in which you mentioned rokoro telling benio she is weak is not just because he is trying to keep her safe but also he found out he is actually a kagare in that same episode and I think benio still hates kagare at that point can’t remember anyway rokoro was thinking she would be disgusted by him if she found out the truth and that the only reason the miko becomes so powerful is because he or she gets powers from both magano and earth and rokoro will lose his abilities when the baby is born but knowing that rokoro is probably thinking that if he dies then fate gets broken kills yuto and will able to stop himself before going on a rampage just in case it happens and helping “save” more people basically hoping and going on a suicide mission hoping to kill both him and yuto of course he could not tell benio because if she knew she would have stopped him or tried to die with him or something like that and while again rokoro is definitely wrong he is panicking and thinks this is the best solution for everyone and when benio gets there she finally makes him realize that a he doesn’t need to be a sacrificial hero and that b she will love him regardless of him being a kagare or some possible evil and that together rokoro turning evil won’t happen again all that could be a head cannon version of events but that is what they seemed to imply in the final episodes fourth the openings slap especially the final one and finally there daughter for her name was one of the best parts of the anime because she was literally the catalyst for benio and rokoro understanding what it means to be parents and the understanding that their vow to stop the kagare without a kid actually means remember they took that vow at the end of arc 2 because it was bs but they had no idea what they would have to do or what they would have to face for their decision they literally get told and shown multiple times throughout that arc that their decision was stupid and that they both are useless until they have a kid but their adopted daughter is one always telling them that their they got this and helps confront the nah sayers b helps them know what it means to be a parent by getting attached to the kid helping them confront truth about themselves and giving them a bit of peace between the chaos c is a sort of psudeo miko because she has the power to destroy the world and is the anime’s way of saying ok you want to not follow fate fine put your money where mouth is because they not only need to keep the child safe from everyone but are told multiple times I think that it would be better if they just let the exorcist kill the child d when the kid dies it proves the two correct in their decision because she sacrifices herself only because of the love and care benio and rokoro showed her so even though she still died it was her choice not forced upon her and finally rokoro benio and myself crying at her passing is important because not only did we get attached to her but shows that while they can change fate and make things better loss always happens and it sucks but we can always save everyone no matter how much we want to remember the have done all they have done throughout the entire series to save everyone and while sure they may know they can’t it really hits home after the daughter’s death plus her death really helps them understand the resolve they need to uphold their vow and reinforces their decision because they don’t ever want to lose a child like that again again not trying to argue with you or anything like that absolutely 💯 % love your video and do definitely think after watching it the manga is better just trying to say that I think both the anime and manga rock even if the manga is absolutely better

I'm still kind of confused why it even happened. I can't imagine the author was actually ok with it but I can't find anyone commenting on it. Just seems like the anime studio completed commandeered the IP to create an original work without having to build a foundation.
It's so obvious that they didn't consult the author due to the fact it becomes a generic battle shounen. Also the fact that the story didn't focus on the romance when that's nearly the entire point of the story. Nearly every part of Twin Star Exorcist is supposed to reinforce and works towards building the two main characters relationship. Which that's personally why I'm a little iffy on the current direction of the manga. Feels like the author is trying to play catch up with themselves and we've had quite a few chapters of just attempting to clean up plot threads.
At least with Full Metal Alchemist it's obvious there was author input. They just took the idea in a different direction. Which you get a similar vibe with the FMA movies. Here, it's not even the same story.
