The lack of flow through the solenoids CAUSES the heat buildup and it’s manifested under load. Great tip to check it again a few weeks after cleaning. Also change the fluid filter if it’s serviceable (under the trans pan or external). Coolers are nice for towing/racing but finding the root cause is best to have it operate as it did new.

This video put my heart at ease. Im glad it most likely is a solenoid/fluid issue and not a whole tranny issue. My 02 starts and takes off fine for about 10mins then starts to overrev into 2nd /3rd then just doesnt wanna engage after that

Thanks for your information. I have Honda Odyssey EXL 2006. around 2 months ago when I was driving 80 m/h on the highway suddenly I saw the RPM going up and down faster. Then I park on roadside open the hood found transmission oil all over the engine and phone there is no transmission fluid all drainage. Then I bought fluid put it in and drive to back home. Next day I change the transmission oil then till now there is no leaking in driving good. Only I feel little push when it shipped . But no problem I drive 70 or 75 mph. Could you please give me idea should I clean these valves all need to change transmission filter. I forgot to tell you actually I did not change transmission oil for a long time almost 50,000 miles. Oil was vary smelly and dart.

Love your vids, man. Have 2006 Odyssey Touring and I just replaced driver axle, lil fluid dripped out so I added equal amount. After engine oil change, trans slips/won't go into gear immediately once warm. Did trans fluid flush w Honda trans fluid and feels BEAUTIFUL...but same issue. Again, when cold or cool, NO issues. But once warm, same thing. Would replacing solenoids and cleaning screens possibly be the issue or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks a ton👊🏻

Great video. Thank you! The 740 code came on and it shifted crazy some times. Took it to a shop well recommended by many. First I watched other videos here and they all said to clean the screens. I told him about the videos but he didn’t like videos.
He tested and said it had three codes. The first was the linear solenoid. He replaced that and new fluid. Drove off and light went back on. Next he took two of the coffee k cup size solenoids off a used Trans. Drove it and same. The screens still has not been cleaned. I have a appointment at AAMCO next week and another at a different shop. I might even crawl under and see if these are in a place I can get to them Ok. Also had Honda parts tell me the gasket is $43.00. Is it likely the original gasket is reusable? Some videos say reinstall using silicone??
    Thank you for any advice.

Appreciate your video. Thank you. Hoping you might help us please. Do you have any idea why our 1990 Honda Accord Auto Transmission does not shift into reverse sometimes and makes the funny clicking sound? Other times we start it and it shifts into reverse perfectly. We've flushed the AT and put the Honda fluid, checked the lock up and shift solenoids and cleaned the small screens. Does the Honda Lock up solenoid lock up the torque convertor to make it go into reverse? Here is a video of the sound.. Thank you very much. @H9y4

That's a tuff one try going into reverse from parking not from neutral try engaging it in different ways maybe car slightly moving forward I work at a aamco and there's pads with brake type material that Tru years they worn out that's y they say is not good change oil cause the material could be in oil bouncing round sometimes in might catch sometimes don't maybe when hot or maybe when cold but old Honda's transmissions are easy change if I was u I save few bucks get a clean one with low miles and once u change it just baby it and prob last for long time maybe ad a inline filter u can cut one lines coming from tranny and ad a filter they look kind like the fuel filter ones but for trannys

The first time i had issues with my pilot i recently bought it and was traveling was 110 miles from home and the A/T TEMP light came on then started sputtering and losing power and shifting rough, i pulled over and popped the hood could smell a little bit of burnt trans fluid, the dip stick showed no fluid. Started driving home and it started acting up again and this time blew fluid everywhere and was smoking. Had it towed home and drove it fine the next day to my work at a dealership and thats when the mechanics told me to drain and fill and spray out the cooler been running fine since i did that and now the p0740 code.

Hi Rico, I need advice on my 2004 Honda Odyssey, the tranny pulls just fine when it's cooled down, but after driving it just a short while it starts slipping? The fluid is burnt and it overheated the other day and I had to be towed home. It has a external cooler but I'm not sure if the tranny is bad even though it pulls fine at first, it has a lot of miles, however my 2003 Odyssey has over heated before a few times and after letting it cool down and also changing some of the fluid later it still pulls fine, but my 04 is ALOT nicer and better shape big time, but I don't trust the tranny at all? I need to get the 04 fixed but I can't afford to have the tranny rebuilt, WOULD YOU GIVE ME YOUR BEST ADVICE ON WHAT I SHOULD DO? I could have the tranny out of the 03 put in the 04, but since it also has a lot of miles on it that would not be a good idea. Let me know?

1998-02 Accords, the Odysseys that Era, and the 3.2TLs have a warranty extension for 10 years/100,000 miles because of this problem.
