As part of our video series marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2019, we posted the bios of 4 Holocaust survivors and invited you to submit questions to them. Here are their answers to your questions submitted via social media.
Topics include:
- Can you recall a memory that you have of your life before the war began?
- What was it like for you when you were in hiding? Describe the experience. As a young child what did you understand about what was going on around you?
- After the war, how did you decide whether to stay at the convent or to immigrate to Israel?
- Before you and your family were deported in 1944, did you think the Germans would occupy Hungary?
- What was your arrival in Auschwitz like? What do you think helped you survive?
- Why do you feel it is important to talk about your experiences during the Holocaust?
- After your experiences during the Holocaust, how were you able to restore your faith in humanity?

We must hear the voices of those who lived through this horror while they remain. Each year that goes by that collective voice wanes as we lose these first hand witnesses. While this is true, it is vital that we all must keep telling the stories of these people persistently lest the lessons of this time in human history is forgotten or minimized.

Thank you for sharing your stories. I hope the world will continue to better itself and humanity will repay itself for what it has done. My great grandfather was able to escape but many others weren't. I hope we can all remember their legacy
