I have an '01 bullitt with 105k miles on it that is screeching... Letting me know I need to replace the throw out bearing. However, I'm thinking that while I have the transmission out I should replace / update a few other things. Any suggestions on what other work should be done at the same time? The previous owner put in a new flywheel about 15,000 miles ago.

Hi Brando, definitely recommend changing the TB, quite of bit of labor to get to it again. Flywheel should be good still but once you get the clutch off you can inspect better. That's awesome you own a Bullitt, thats one of my favorite Mustangs that always eluded me, what color is it? let us know what you find when you bring the tranny out! And thanks for watching!
My McLeod bearing just went after about 400 miles. The seal went and it spit out all the grease that was in it. It was making loud squalking noises and my brand new tremec magnum was shifting like garbage. I’m pretty annoyed. The one honest tech guy new immediately what it was.
Oh man that sucks, thanks for sharing, it really upsets me when a small relatively inexpensive part causes you to repeat an extensive repair job like dropping a transmission, good thing like you said you got a good mechanic!
Would this make your car shake like crazy at idle and up through 2k rpms?

Good evening I have a question for you. I have a 2004 mustang gt 5 speed and i just installed a new Exedy stage 2 clutch kit and installed a oem ford clutch cable non adjustable and a firewall adjuster. I have whining noise in gear but goes away when I push in the clutch paddle. Do you have any ideal what it could be. Do you think I need to adjust the clutch cable with the firewall adjuster
Hi Tyrone! it is possible the TOB is making the noise. On mine I usually leave the cover off on the inspection window on the side of the tranny where the clutch fork connects, I confirmed a couple of bad bearings or loose cable by looking thru this window, I did it with the engine off for safety, some people like the bearing to have some preload and some a small space between the bearing and the fork, hope that helps! thanks for watching bud!
@@AlexAutoFun Thanks for responding back. So how do I go by setting the preload? Do i have the car running and then turn the firewall adjuster counterclockwise(tightening cable) until it starts chirping and then back off of it until it stops or do i turn it clockwise(loosening cable) to set the preload? I am Sorry for asking so many questions but I'm new to the mustang game
Away from the clutch. If it's spinning, it's generating heat.
Unnecessary heat in general is never a good thing on a car.
Maybe double-clutch if you want to ease it and not shock it. It's very easy to get used to double-clutching when shifting, even on a downshift.
Except with a t5 it pretty much has to be preloaded. Cant get enough travel without preload.
I forgot to grease the inside of my bearing when I replaced it, but I greased everything else. Would this cause the bearing to go out faster?
Hi Juan! it's possible you won't see much of a difference as the bearing slides over the sleeve which does not rotate, wear will likely be minimal. If some reason the transmission does comes down again I would definitely recommend adding a very small amount of grease.
Hey I have a 2014 mustang gt. I replaced my clutch and throughout bearing. With no pilot bearing since the car had low miles and no wear. I replaced the clutch with a twin disk clutch which is known for noises. My clutch or flywheel makes a chattering sound when it is let out and with the AC on. And goes away when the clutch is put in. I’m not to sure if the sounds Is coming from the pilot bearing. Hopefully u see this
Hi Matt! I don't thinks is the pilot bearing specially since you said it hasn't had much wear, typically what I see the always seems to be the TOB and once it does start making the noise. I have heard a very similar noise when I went to a twin disk clutch (McLeod if it helps). The key to reducing the noise in those cases seems to add some very little preload to the TOB against the clutch. On the New edge generation, we have firewall adjusters that we use for preload or changing the engagement point. They may have those for the S-197 generations also, it won't eliminate all the noise but I was able to reduce it quite a bit. Hope this helps man and thanks for watching!

if you look up the part number 614014 its a national bearing that ford uses and repackages in there own box you can get the same bearing for 35 40 bucks from summit racing

I have Just had my clutch replaced on my 04 mustang GT. I am getting a chirping noise When I let off the clutch my mechanic replaced everything including The cable and it still chirps know he wants to replace The clutch fork. Is there much evidence that The fork goes bad.
Hi Robert, sounds like the classic throwout bearing noise, I seen it happen with a good bearing but not enough pressure to keep it spinning always, the bearing hits the clutch plate intermittently making the squeaky sound. I would check that there is enough preload on the bearing to prevent the bearing from slipping and making noise or no preload with a nice space in between the bearing and the clutch plate to avoid intermittent squeaks. There are cases of bent forks but they are somewhat rare, let us know what you find and thanks for watching bud!
I disagree.mustangs are known for fork problems and it sounds like a bad pivot ball in the clutch fork. They will chirp and squeak when they are dry and have no grease.Look at the clutch fork.

I installed new clutch and throw out bearing my car makes noise when I press the clutch
Just pulled my transmission after changing my clutch out ....with around 35 miles on it....the throw out bearing that came with the Valeo HD kit I installed was broken in half with the inner seized to the shaft and the outer laying inside my clutch fingers somehow. 35 miles and it exploded and broke in half and took my fork input shaft and were about to find out what else right now. I'm pisssed. Do yourself a favor and buy the Ford bearing.

D fork that my car has..has no prongs for d bearing..is this ok??
Definitely not good, it possible they have broken off at some point, while it should be possible to install it, it will likely rattle or make excessive noise..
The clutch forks are wearable also. They're probably equally responsible for TB failure as anything else. They get fatigued and twisted. I have to drop my trans, and replace fork, pivot, and bearings, I dont want to pull the clutch for the pilot, but may do it anyway. My clutch only has 40k on it? No issues other than the tb OR pilot screaming at me.

@@AlexAutoFun I replaced the tob, pivot ball, and fork, used Valvoline impreg high speed grease, and my clutch works great.

Actually the teardrop on the bearing goes up to space to keep the tod from falling off the pivot ball

@@AlexAutoFun from owning a brand new Untouched clutch to changing the clutch the orientation of the tear drop goes up to not allow the Clutch fork from dropping from pivot stud if u put teardrop down the fork can be pulled or fall off pivot stud that is why teardrop goes up
