Feeding My Goldfish - the fun way!

- Today I used Super Gold gel food to simulate algae growing on rocks for my goldfish to eat. Goldfish are part of the carp family, and carp are scavengers that search around all day for bits of food here and there. One of their favorite activities is to eat algae off of underwater surfaces, and since my tank isn't exactly growing a lush wall of algae, I took matters into my own hands. I apply Repashy to sticks of driftwood, backside of tiles, and rocks in order to feed my grazers. Using the sticks allows me to stand them upright so fish at all levels of the aquarium can graze. It is good in the fridge for a week or so, and in the freezer for a few months. I also will dehydrate it in a food dehydrator (or your oven at the lowest setting) to make "jerky" for some of my plecos. It is great stuff! I liked this video Jenny!
This was so adorable when you put the words of the goldfish talking. I do this for my goldfish, he loves Repashy gel food. All my fish do!

This is my preferred way of giving repashy to my BN pleco. My mollies also enjoy it in any way it comes.

The natural algae behaviour is why I let the algae grow on the back and one side of my tank and all over my terracotta pots. I have a little one-eyed telescope who really loves to peck at the algae. So cute!

Awesome!!! Culturing duckweed, azolla would also be great. The hair algea is really easy to culture with a bright light. All that zooplankton that comes with a fishless tank is great too.

I'm one of those "inhuman people" who find goldfish weird-looking. Especially the ones you find so cute XD With their swollen bellies and puffed out eyes they look permanently ill XD I've been following you for awhile now and I think the more I watch, the more I get used to their looks. I doubt, however, that it will ever get to the point when I decide I want to have a goldfish (maybe those small ones with a thin fish-like body). The reason why I keep watching your videos is that I love how you interact with your fish, you seem so loving. It's very pleasant to listen to you talk as well about something you like so much. I could listen to you chatter to and about your animals all day long XD

The way the goldfish are eating you would almost think they haven’t been fed in months. It’s so cute, mine do this aswell! I find goldfish (especially the fancy ones) are always so excited to eat no matter how much you feed them 😂
Thanks for sharing this video with us. The Repashy food looks like a great option for one's fish. It is a bit pricey compared to other foods, but it does look to be great addition to their nutritional needs.

This is a really good idea! Im gonna start up a hillstream setup soon, which is going to have a lot of algae eating loaches, and before all the aufwuchs (algae that fish eat) starts growing on the rocks, I might use this technique as a makeshift method! thank you so much for the advice

I don’t use gel food, but I may try growing some algae on some river stones in the sun outside for my Goldie’s, since my tanks don’t really seem to grow any algae 😊

I feed repashy as well. My goldfish get super gold and I take the morning wood and mix it with Community plus and schmear it on my Driftwood and rocks and my plecos just go absolutely nuts! I love hand feeding the repulsion cubes to my goldfish. But, mine are quite a bit bigger than Jenny's! Mine are comets and they are 9 to 13 inches....And I have three of them in a 150! With one very large pleco
I've also done this with plastic golf balls coated in repashy. Hehe.

Neptune is my betta's name! I have a couple in their own tanks. Their names are Neptune, Borealis, Rocket, Sub Zero and there were 5 but she passed away after living a good life. Her name was Celeste. A pure white female halfmoon betta.

I love Repashy foods. My goldfish get it every day and my freshwater community tank gets it every other day with a good quality flake food on the other days. The goldfish go crazy for it.
