  • uh oh, cellulite is trending. this is not good news for the beauty industry and those who profit off women's insecurities! as far as beauty standards go, cellulite is fairly new. after all, prior to the 1960s, women's clothes was designed to cover us up - heck, even showing your ANKLES was considered raunchy in the 1800s! So even if we had cellulite, no one knew about it. it wasn't until the 1960s when women's clothes started becoming more revealing that suddenly cellulite was given a name, and the marketing and beauty industries realised that money could be made. create a problem (in this case, cellulite) create the solution (anti cellulite products). but cellulite is NOT a flaw. our bodies are intelligent creations, and our cellulite is there for a reason. it's not something to get rid of! as much as social media USED to make it look like the rich and famous had nothing but silky smooth texture free skin, cellulite is now trending. no more are we going to great efforts to hide it, under long skirts and longer shorts, or airbrushing it out, now we're trying to show it off. kendall jenner, kylie jenner, bella hadid, gigi hadid, iskra lawrence, ashley graham - women of all different shapes and sizes have it, let's cellebrate our beautiful bodies intelligent design!

    I asked my dermatologist about treatments for cellulite and she scoffed and said “what’s there to treat? It’s normal.” When I asked about injections, she said “women are scarring their legs with those needles to temporarily decrease the appearance of something beautiful and natural. I refuse to do those kinds of things.” It changed my outlook a lot.

      I have this weird obsession with my stretch marks, not in a negative way either I just think they are so fucking beautiful. They remind me of how amazing the female body is and the things it can do. I’ve had them since before I had my son too, I have always associated them with growth and as I got older I just loved them more with time. I’ve never been ashamed of my cellulite but I’ve also never really felt the love I have for my stretch marks(I personally call them my stretchies cause I think it’s sounds cute just like my stretch marks) and I kind of want to feel the same way about my cellulite because it’s just another aspect of myself I get to love.

    When I was 24 I was dating a man 32 years my senior. Very regrettable. I had just come out of the shower wrapped in a towel and he poked me in the side of my leg and told me I had a bit of cellulite there. I was mortified and furious at the same time. Judging only by the look on my face continued with "Oh, why are you getting so upset. It's easy enough to get rid of!". What I learned from that was there are men who would teach us to hate our bodies in order to control us. I've avoided men like that ever since and I'm glad I learned the lesson early. Thanks for the video Stephanie. x

    You forgot to mention WHY cellulite occurs in women far more than men. *Cellulite is a secondary sex characteristic.* Men and women have different skin structure (X vs I I). Women also tend to store more fat in the bum and thighs. The female skin structure allows more room for fat cells to increase in size between the connective tissue as the tissue remains the same length, tugging inwards and creating dimples. Losing weight can minimise its appearance, but this isn't guaranteed as we cannot spot reduce fat. In other words, it's up to genetics where we store and lose fat, so if you're bottom-heavy, you'll probably always have cellulite.
    Also, a lot of people confuse stretch marks with cellulite. "Treatments" (i.e. cosmetic surgery) for stretch marks are different to those for cellulite. I have little to no cellulite and a lot of light stretch marks, but when I move around, they can look like cellulite.

    • @mistypedhi
      @mistypedhi Před 7 měsíci +112

      To put it short, men have thicker skin and they also require less essential fat compared to women. That is why it is healthy for a man to have visible abs but it is not healthy for a woman to have visible abs.

    • @RR-kp5ps
      @RR-kp5ps Před 7 měsíci +88

      @@mistypedhi As I said, where people store and lose fat is down to genetics. Some women don't have as many fat cells around their abs as other women or they may lose fat there first, making it easier for them to build abs. As long as they are at a healthy bodyfat percentage necessary for normal menstrual cycle, visible abs on women is not necessarily unhealthy as it is only subcutaneous fat that is reduced. It is excess visceral fat that is unhealthy.

      Yes! And that connective tissue the fat is pushing through is our fascia. The more tangled up the fascia the more cellulite. If we address the fascia we can actually greatly reduce cellulite. What’s interesting though is that there are also a host of other health benefits that come along with treating the fascia and getting in its most healthy state ☺️

I hated mine but everyone has them. I didn't have them as a teenager and not as a young adult but now I've gained the last of the healthy weight I needed as I've fully matured. Even my mom has it and she complained so much when I was growing up but I always said I never noticed it because it's so normal and that she's still beautiful. Honestly all the women I saw on the beach on the vacation were so pretty and ALL had cellulite. We're so brainwashed by social media because we look on our screens more than real life so the new "normal" for us becomes super warped and different hence we now have more body dysmophia than ever and the need to change our appearances. We as a society need to work as a community to stop judging and falling for fake Photoshop.

I still struggle to wear shorts (especially in public) and it sucks so much, I really thought I'd be over it by now.

    I’ve had cellulite for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, all the way until I was about 17-19, I used to always wear shorts at the beach because I was super ashamed and embarrassed of my cellulite. This changed after I started university… seeing so many different people truly not care about how they looked most of the time gave me the confidence I was missing lol. Don’t know why I was ever ashamed. Everyone has it, and literally no one cares. Now I mostly wear very cheeky swimsuits, even a few thongs 🤷🏽‍♀️ and I feel gooooooood 💁🏽‍♀️

    I learned about the real purpose of the body - survival, in a basement in Ukraine in Irpen (see the photo on the Internet). At this moment, when you have eaten almost nothing for 8 days under the bombs, you touch your stomach and imagine how much reserve is still enough until the complete shit starts... At this moment, the social firmware is erased by standards to the level of basic natural settings...

    • @LeilaleilaZ
      @LeilaleilaZ Před 7 měsíci +4

      Absolutely. Caring about something as trivial as cellulite on parts of your body is such a "first world problem". There are real issues out there in the world, people starving, dying, getting sick, getting traficked, etc, etc and yet some of us are out here worrying about dumb shit like that. Myself included! For years and years.
      But as I said, once some real, earth-shattering problems happen in your life - god forbid - you don't even remember if you have cellulite or not, or other look-related issues. We should stop looking for stuff to be troubled about and enjoy what we do have.

    One thing my mom said once made me laugh so hard but it also stuck with me. She said “What matters is that once you are laying down, it all evens itself out” 😂😂 She was referring to ‘copulation’ 🤣 And this was when I, my aunt, and my cousin were talking about boobs sagging, skin issues, and such. She walks by us and graces us with that comment and we were all speechless for a few seconds because it took a minute for us to comprehend what she meant, but also, we’ve never heard her say something like that before 😂 Not gonna lie, it helped me and still helps me a lot when I have body image issues mostly because it creates a disruption in the negative thoughts and it helps me regulate better.

    Yes and some people are trying to make a comment about Victoria’s Secret models and how they used to look versus now. Uhm it’s called photoshop and film editing. Look at JLOs cellulite. In nowhere ever would she allow it to be shown even though it’s her *real* body. I do care about this and it does matter because 1. They are lying and acting as if they aren’t hiding anything 2. They often make money off of their appearance and their self-image/self-brand and 3. It perpetuates harmful beauty standards and practices

I realized that even my thinnest friends have cellulite and hip dips and there’s nothing wrong about it. Now I even LIKE my hip dips and I really don’t care about my cellulite at all. And I live in Miami, one of the most image conscious cities in the US (I think). I hope we all can come to this realization.

    Thank you for a video on this topic, Stephanie! I'm pear-shaped and got cellulite and stretch marks the second puberty hit me. I was (and if I'm honest, still am) ashamed of my cellulite so much, that I would not wear in public any clothes revealing my thighs. I tried workouts that promised to reduce it, creams, wraps, massage machines that promised to get rid of it, and none of those worked, so I felt even better thinking that there's something wrong with me. I felt like I must be just lazy and stupid if with all those remedies out there I still can't solve this problem. Unfortunately, I still have a long way to go because I still don't like my pear-shaped body and hate the way my huge butt and thighs look. But now I at least know that it's not my fault and it doesn't make me any less of a person.

    I never realised just how much I felt downright *terrified* being seen with cellulite when I couldn't even wear shorts without panicking when it starts to show the back of my thighs :\ I'm an 80's kid so you know just how toxic and how every woman was shamed for having cellulite back then. Growing up, it was ingrained in my very soul to fear the cellulite and even shame and mock women who dared to show theirs. I'm really happy that more and more women are pushing back and your video has slowly helped me accept my thigh dimples. It's s a slooow process though. Yesterday, I went to the gym wearing a pair of gym shorts and I had to constantly remind myself to focus on my workout rather than be worried over the fact that my cellulite is out in the open for everyone to see. I had to tell myself that the very fact that I wore shorts in public is already a huuuuge step forward to getting rid of these toxic feelings. I then remembered this video and your message, and honestly, it calmed my anxiety down. Thank you, Stephanie

    I like your content and your fresh honesty Stephanie. However, I think there is nothing cool about having cellulite. And yes, a lot of people have it, however out of my 10 friends (all over 50 years), only me and one more women have it. The others have not even a dimple. I always have had cellulite even though I am slim, work out regularly and eat very healthily. It runs in my mums family and it is a matter of your skin elasticity... A lot of my mums friends are overweight and have the strongest, even skin. I have tried all the treatments and gave up, because nothing really helps. So I learned to live with it but I won't show it off because it does not look cool.
