Who doesn't love Fannie Flagg? I have all of her books and they are all great. For a dyslexic she shows that you CAN do what you put your mind to. I love all Fannie's books, but Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe is special because my Mom and Dad live about five blocks from the real Irondale Cafe ( once neighbors of the real Fortenberrys ) I've eaten many fried green tomatoes there. I grew up in B'ham, graduated from Woodlawn High school and can identify with all the landmarks and places mentioned in her books. I agree that B'ham really is the Magic City.. Thanks Fannie
I remember you from when I was just a little kid, living about 60 miles east of B'ham, and watching you on the Tom York show. You were funny then, and of course also on Candid Camera, along with the many zany game shows you were on. However, I get the greatest pleasure by reading your books. I have them all! They're all terrific,& combine history and hysterics, imagery and sensibilities, and I miss Sonny-the cat, from one of your books. Please let us know when you will have more to share.
My uncle and aunt lived on 2nd Ave in Irondale just above the Irondale Cafe. I grew up in Montgomery but spent a bit of time there in the sixties as a kid. Julia S. when did you go to Woodlawn High? You might have known my cousins.
