Victorinox needs to rethink the toothpick slot. We can easily carve a toothpick from a stick. We cannot just carve up a ferro rod. They need to make it official by giving each model an option to have ferro rod, or I would like to see a tiny diamond blade sharpener rod fit in the toothpick slot.👍😁
Totally 👍
The toothpick has more uses than just picking one's teeth. The ridge is used to open stubborn tools (like the awl), especially if keeping one's nails thin. The toothpick can also be used to undo some types of zip ties. And I saw a bunch more creative ideas on CZcams.
@@cv5w
I think the tweezers could do those jobs.
Don’t let this go to your head but when it comes to EDC you are one of the very best 👍
I try not to let it - thanks though Sassy
Jon's energy has like an indescribable effervescent quality that really cool, grate video 👌
That's very kind!
Brilliant video Jon, particularly interesting to see how you evolve your EDC by adding and editing. No matter what, it's always a useful exercise to stop and review one's EDC requirements as we move through life! Keep up the great work mate
Thanks for the review Jon! Great to see you using QL across so many different activities.
Beautiful. Thanks for your inspirational photography. ❤
Thanks, Jon. You always present good stuff in your videos.
Thank you for this great idea! I’ve been Journaling for decades since college using the ubiquitous spiral notebooks.
I like the size and quality of the Smythson Panama notebook!
That water bottle is brilliant. I may need one for myself.
I bought the Rovyvon A8 based on your review, I've been very impressed with it. Great keyring torch (punches well above it's weight) thank you. 👍
I have several Olights, but that A8 is my most used light. So convenient.
me too!
I don't think I can get tired of EDC videos from you Jon. It's always fun watching pouch carries or body or even bag since everyone needs are different. Im now looking for a nail clipper sissor multi tool thats tsa approved for those travels where i gotta be stripped of my beloved texas size knives and gear
Thanks for the kind comments
Worth checking spelling before you send, for clarity.
Never really been big into EDC, until I approached airport security with pockets bulging with crap. I’m now hooked. Need a sling bag.
You've got my dream job! I pend a fortune on edc gear gadgets. Great video pal keep yo the good work
It was worth watching the video even for water bottle itself. This is just brilliant! I’m going to order one soon. But really great recommendations on whole bunch of useful stuff.
I have a black version of that knife. Love it and had it for 30yrs
I’m traveling Italy currently and using the bellroy lite sling and loving it. The 9l looks like it would be even better! Thanks to you, I’m having a great time carrying my edc in the 7l lite sling and keeping things safe and accessible
great to hear 👍
Great! Always on the cutting edge of edc. Great editing as well.. 👍🏻
thanks - appreciated
Very similar to my sling load out. I carry a power bank in a version of your Urban Essentials Kit just to make it easy to move from bag to bag and not forget something!
I carry that one with a back pack 😊
Everything you need and more.
Brilliant video as always 👏👏
Thanks as always 😊
Hello Jon, I really appreciate your opinions and your style of presentation! Thank you!
I have a couple of items you might find interesting. First, for your bolt action pen that takes a Parker refill, you might like the Fisher Space Pen pressurized refill which fits any Parker pen too (as well as Rotring too). You have to get ahold of a little adapter to convert the Fisher to Parker, but they often come with the Fisher refills. Those refills write any where, even on wet paper, and they break-in to a very smooth, superior writing experience.
The other thing you might not know about is that the SAK carrying (parcel) hook can hold any Bosch style jig saw blade under the itself when the back of the blade is set into the trough of the hood and the hook is (partially) closed over it. It helps to wrap a little tape around the base of the blade to widen it, but that's not necessary. The carrying hook holds the saw blade really securely and the saw blade can be used fully! (There are videos showing the details so I won't try to describe it any more here).
I hope these ideas are helpful to you and others. Thank you again for the wonderful, inspirational and useful videos!
Love your content, from Wisconsin so I say cheers across the pond
Thank you and greetings Wisconsin
Another great video, Jon! Now I have to weigh out pro and cons of my carry and probably adding some of these items.
good stuff 👍
Great concepts that work as always
Great EDC.
I use the same wallet!! Have for years. I love it:)
That Bellroy Sling Bag looks pretty sweet. I just use one of my laptop bags if one of them doesn't have a lappy in it. They're all slings and basically the same size, but the lappy bags tend to have more options for storage.
영상 잘 보고 있습니다. 항상 건강하세요.
Thank you
Hi Jon, Thanks for the great videos. I too carry my compact everywhere. I slightly sharpened the inner tip of the combination tool so i can open packages and cut cardboard. This way the blade remains sharp also clean for food purposes. Thought you might like it. Cheers
Nice idea! Thanks for sharing
I always end up with a Classic SD and a Boker Urban Trapper ( petite)Love the flashlights you're using
Great video Jon. Instead of a beanie, what I use is a bandana/neck gaiter so I can carry less, and increase usability.
- Turn into a beanie if my head gets cold
- face covering for minor pollutants (ie., someone mowing the lawn)
- hankerchief for my nose, or sweat (just dump in the wash after)
- cloth for wiping whatever else.
Can get a merino wool one for more warmth, or just a stretchy polyfibre one for warmer days.
Jon - The Belroy Venture sling should have a square black tag inside that has a secret slot designed specifically to hold an AirTag. That’d free up the pocket you’re using now for other gear. BTW - Another bald guy here with so many of the same things in my EDC, many from my own experience (like the Arc’Teryx Rho beanie and/or a Buff which I keep rolled up in one of the end pockets of my 7L Venture Sling), and a few I’ve learned about through being a loyal subscriber to your channel, like the Victorinox Compact, Aurora A8, Nitecore NB10k carbon fiber powerbank, inCharge X and more. Keep up the good work, mate. You’re the best in the business in my opinion.
I knew the bigger Bellroy offered this but didn't even think about looking at the sling! I'll check it out. Thanks for the kind words, great selections in your carry 👍
THAT BAG ROCKS
The keysmart pocket clip for the Swiss army knife is fantastic
agreed
House of jack wallets, I got my slim minimalist wallet for $19.99, I looked at other but they pricey, this one has held up great, also got my pops the long wallet with a Mule deer on it.
Following the keysmart nano clip led me to their largest key organizer, which doubles as a Multitool holder. (tools sold separately.) that led to to a few other key organizers that also have Multitool capabilities, or built in flashlights, or Bluetooth support(!) for finding it from your phone.
Seems like there is maybe an episode or 2 to be had comparing different key organizer/multitool options. I'd be curious about your thoughts on them.
Great video!!! 👌
Great comprehensive vid John. Some great ideas in there as always. Cheers :)
Thanks Caroline
Great video, I got the A8 after watching one of your videos and absolutely love it, it's in my pocket every day.
What’s the A8?
The Rovyvon torch
great to hear
Another great video and one that answers a question I posted in relation to your Thai trip video regarding alternatives to AirPod Pro earbuds - I’m now going to check out those Soundcore Liberty 4 goodies. As a long-time user of Arc’ products I’d recommend their gear for wet weather and hiking purposes and that merino beanie looks the part too. I also shave my head and I find beanie hats slip off during the first 24hrs after I shave, so to address this I usually wear a fleece Nike ACG cap instead until my bonce gets a bit stubbly again. Finally, that Belroy wallet looks like my first iPhone case with it’s orange pull-tab so I’ll have to find that ow so I too can store my cards and similar sized EDC in it too…
I use a stainless steel Sampo swivel between the SAK and pocket clip.
I like Victorinox but I'm addicted to colourful Benchmades 😅😅👍👍
Rovyvon flashlights rock, i got the titanium overpriced one, i love it.
Blimey! Thats alot of items to cart around everywhere...everyday ! That said there's some really great items there. Especially the torches I'll be checking thise out.
There's not a lot of weight there (without the water) and plenty of room in the sling which I've found really useful.
Have you ever thought about getting a Lockard wallet? They are modular and thus customizable
The black Belroy label in the bottom of the Venture sling is designed as a pocket to hold an AirTag.
You should look into the spyderco roadie. I can’t tell you how much I love that little knife.
you should check out these Velcro brand "organizers"? its like a roll of double sided velcro you can cut them and stick them together, bundle things together, also im going to buy some kevlar rope and replace my shoelaces.
Another great video. Thanks. I have used your advice to build my own sling bag set up and refined it on several trips this year. I have been looking for a TSA friendly multitool and failing to find one I modified my own. I bought a used Leatherman Micra and ground the knife blade down to a standard screwdriver/small pry tool. First flight I let TSA know what I had and they looked it over and waived me through. Second flight they took my word for it and third flight it didn't even get flagged. I carried a small padded envelope and stamps in case it didn't pass and I needed to mail it home. Glad I had it as I needed it on the last flight. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great feedback - really interesting - thanks for sharing
Hello Bulldogs! I would try the victorinox jetsetter or Gerber dime (bladeless edition). In my country we are not allowed knives at all just for EDC so i have done a little bit of research :) Not sure if TSA allows small scissors so check that.
Thanks. I did pick up a Jetsetter and while good for what it is, it's more basic than what I was looking for. I chose the Micra as I couldn't find a Dime Traveler, or Style PS for a reasonable price for the experiment. The TSA website says scissors less than 4" from the pivot point are allowed in carry on bags. So, hopefully I'm good for US flights, but I suppose I will have to check when travelling internationally. @@corvus4eomer
Just an update. Just back from a domestic trip and the modified Micra didn't get flagged on either leg. However, looks like scissors aren't allowed on European airlines so I will have to look for another option for euro trip next year. Thanks again. @@corvus4eomer
Haven't watched it yet, but I know I like it !
🤣
Elasticated🤣😂 I love it
Awesome
Nice list. I've never seen that flashlight brand before. Thinking about giving one a try. - Thanks
You're welcome
As always a very good video. I'm already looking forward to the next video :) I'm looking forward to your review of the Ultrahuman Ring
Thanks for that. Good to know re ring - on test right now - will need a couple more weeks with it I would say.
Hi Jonathan, another great informative video. Love Victorinox, ordering the Cyber tool based on your previous review. Also, thank you for introducing me to Belroy, I bought their backpack for the days I go to the office! Love it! Thanks again, Carl in the USA. Ps also have the Royvon Aurora A28, again inspired by one of your previous resumes!
Reviews
I'm glad you liked it and great to hear about your choices 👍
I've found that the RovyVon is ridiculously finicky, but I love the NiteCore NU25 ultralite headlamp Jon has recommended. That seems to last forever charged in a kit when not used. When using regularly, the charge lasts a few days. It warns you when it needs recharging as it automatically dims itself, which is handy.
NU25 is a great light - especially for a kit - I don't find it works for pocket carry though 😊
My RovyVon Aurora A8 (1st gen I believe) was also "finicky" - often dead when I needed it (no lockout mode), lost the USB cover more than once, then the charging port broke loose from its mount. I LOVE the features of the light but my day is just too rough for it. I went back to an Olight i3t. A lot fewer feature but a lot tougher light.
Jon i have been thinking about the memobottle, especially the metal version. Seeing it in your video makes me more comfortable. Having carried it around how does it feel? Can you clean it easily? any drawbacks you have spotted so far?
That water bottle's pretty cool for that type of bag. A water bottle is an important piece of gear a lot of these videos forget. I've been using the same Patagonia laptop backpack for over 20 years now, though, and it has two outside pockets for normal shaped water bottles (I use a Sigg bottle). I don't know what Patagonia's backpack line is like nowadays because the one they sold me way back when was so perfect and durable I may never need a new one again. And that's where my "extended EDC" goes. And I use the Maxpedition Fatty and Maxpedition Micro organizers for a lot of the gear inside it. Maxpedition was one of the hot EDC brands when I first started watching these sorts of videos, and I've stuck with 'em!
My big miss about that water bottle is the lack of modern aspects. Its not insulated, has no carrying help like a clip point.
Without those at that price point? Hard pass
@@pretentiousname01 I prefer my water at room temp so I don't bother with an insulated one.
@@franticflintstone7999I mean, the nice thing about insulated ones is that it stays the temp (more or less) that you pit it in at.
@@pretentiousname01 I don't need an insulated bottle in my EDC. I do not live in Arizona or other desert areas with extreme heat.
it would add bulk - so I prefer as is - but depends on personal preference of course
Hey I would love to know what your recomendation for a pocket EDC friendly shopping bag is. My most frequent "ah, drat!" moment is when I realise I need to pick up some shoping and I dont have a bag with me. Just got one through the post but its eally too bulky for a pocket and doesnt pack back into its pouch that satisfyingly. would love to get your top EDC shopping bag recs.
Hi it’s great edc items. Can I know what shaver are you using for head to clean shave ? Thanks
Good choice on the different watch for mountain biking. I use to have a G-Shock when I went MTBing. I was going away for weekend riding and found my Casio was flat, so thought I’d just wear my GMT. Turns out the one thing they really don’t like is being shaken really (really) hard.. Seem to recall it cost about £700 to get it fixed, about 15 years ago. Next purchase was a nice new solar recharging G-shock. Not a mistake I’d like to replicate. Lesson learned🤣
Another great video
I did exactly the same! Needed a service afterwards - nit cheap as you know!! Glad you liked it.
I have a g shock cwg 2000 1a1er, literally worn everyday and never taken off.
It survives proper heavy work use in sn environment with vibrating equipment, hand inside engine bays and dust and grit plus water.
A similar enviroment killed my breitling.
nice video..what is the model name of the iphone using this video for quadlock accessories please?
When you mentioned the pin hole in the Victorinox knife I picked up my A8 to illuminate it then you mention that torch - I think you're converting me slowly...
Vic all the way. They could stand to learn some things from other manufacturers though. It would be nice to see them adopt some of the newer tool concepts.
Great EDC setup! Are you going to upgrade your 1st Aid portion since you now have a 9 liter bag? A ziplock bag could protect your electronic items. Also, you could add a few regular size Zip ties in the pen sleeve and not have to cut them in order to fit them in the Altoids tin.
Thanks Jon for the update. I love the content. There are 2 items I found interesting. I'd love to hear what you think of the ring. The Rolex GMT looks great though it's my second choice as I really like the Explorer 2.
$$$s get an affordable G - Shock if you lose a Rolex or The Federales want it good luck a G - Shock no biggie
This vid is enjoyable. (Hope that makes sense) subbed because you introduced me to new flashlights
Great 👍 and welcome to the channel
idk if you know this but belroy bags have a spot made for airtags in the belroy tag there is a tiny spot that an airtag fits into
For me my edc is a samsung s23, a casio g shock mudmaster cwg 2000 1a1er, a swiss tool, a alox victornox limited adition pioneerx and a o light baton pro. I carry cards and cash in a grip 6 wallet.
Nothing more and nothing less than the above, although occasionally, i will swap out the pioneer for a compact.
When out walking in the mountains in my rucksack and in my vehicles I have many additional things but not on my immediate person.
The edc listed is literally what I won't leave the house without.
👍 thanks for sharing
I changed the scales on my Swiss army knife for ones with my email address inscribed on the side - with the idea that if I am ever parted from it and someone finds it there is a chance they will let me know.
nice idea 💡
What a great idea!
Thank you for sharing that tip. Cheers!
@@JonGadget At the risk of repeating myself Jon, great video as always.
Thank you
Casio g-Shock DW-5600 is an affordable and rugged option for daily use
hi Jon, have you thought of changing the lantern for the nitecore tip 2?
I also use the Keysmart but firstly, the glue on one of the magnets failed so it keeps slipping out of its housing and secondly, there is a weight limit. I'll check out that alternative, thank you
I had same issue with Keysmart Magnets
thank you for years of content,! an unsolicited question if all possible, for years ive failed to find the perfect item, the Alpaca zip clutch is almost there.. its, the right footprint at least, just not deep enough, Looking for something that has a sleeve on the outside for a passport, and enough inside for phone, AirPods, pen and a cable, that easily slips into the seatback in front for air travel, sorry, to ask and thank you for any suggestions
When i saw this video, i though i got a genius idea for the tinder to stop fraying, my idea was to wrap the tinder in those transparent cooking foil, and wrap it so it goes in the gaps aswel so it twist around the corkscrew, no luck unfortunately 😅
I see i am not the only one that widened that pocket clip for the victorinox.
Where do you buy the ferro rod that replaces the victorinox tooth pick?
Thank you for the cool overview. I often carry the Victorinox Compact, too - it’s definitely one of the best choices for EDC. The slim design is excellent. I also like to carry the Victorinox Deluxe Tinker and the Victorinox EvoGrip S18. Kind regards Clemens
Agree, I alternate between a compact and a allox pioneer x with a swiss tool for my heavier day to day work use.
Something about the compact always draws me back even against the heavier duty pioneer.
great options 👍
Great gear as always! Or should I say "Brilliant kit" ?
Do you have any umbrella recommendations? Might not be your normal subject, but it is still EDC. My cheap generic one broke (as usual) so I'm looking for a new one and wondering if there are any good premium options.
More awesome gear, thank you for the ideas! Will be interested to hear how you like the Ring Air! Looking for something like that without a subscription.
Yes, no subscription with this which is a real plus - will feedback when I can
Thank you@@JonGadget!
Hi, I’ve been enjoying your channel for some time! You’ve convinced me to get a Rovyvon - as a trial I got a A1 when they switched to USB C and I loved the form factor- sadly it died within 6 or 7 weeks and I struggled to get anything out of the supplier so begrudgingly it went in the bin. With this sale I figured I’llgive them another go and got an A8 and an E5. The A8 came with a bad switch and once again I’m struggling with a response from Rovyvon direct using their CS email. I hope they’ll respond as I still like the idea, I’m just not blown away by their after sales service… maybe they’ll read this seeing they’re sponsoring you. Anyway rant over, keep up the great work! I’ve incorporated a whole heap of your suggestions in my EDC!
Where can you obtain the tritium tubes for the Rovyvon flashlights?
Love that you take the bidet, clean bum is happy bum. But you'll need an extra bottle to use it I think, right?
Much prefer your GMT Noir to the root beer option you have. great watch.
I do too! Steel are more difficult to get these days.
Hi Jon - can help with an item / problem? … like many others I can occasionally leave my smartphone behind when leaving (pub/train/bus/public place) and it would nice to have a wearable / pocketable device to alert me if I leave my phone behind before I get miles down the road .. something like a Bluetooth separation alarm .. not aware of anything but it would an invaluable edc item for many I would think .. any help / ideas greatly appreciated 😊
Great choices Jon. We can agree with most all of your EDC carry choices. The only exception would be the watches. Quality choices indeed, but we chose the Apple Watch Ultra. Not only durable, but can replace your finger ring while adding an additional communication capabilities. Since you already have the Apple iPhone, this seems to be a no brainier. Save the others for impressing those who need to be impressed. We have discovered the new BellRoy Sling from you. Good stuff. Thank you.
The Ultra is a great option and I've been tempted many times. Part of me thinks the phone does everything with a bigger screen - apart from the health metrics of course.
@@JonGadget I was hesitant also ŕegarding the Apple Watch Ultra purchase. Being redundant was also the issue. Bottom line: since owning the AWU...I would rather leave the phone at home and take the watch. Auto crash and fall detection are better with the watch. Siri is now responding internally on the watch for internal requests, eliminating the need to reach out to the cloud and back. Very responsive! I could go on about the durability and high quality, but I don't want to be thought of as an Apple salesman. I have no affiliation other than being a consumer of their products. Oh, one last thing...I use Visible by Verizon for their cellular service. The addition of the Apple Watch for cell connectivity is only five U.S.D. a month extra. 5 bucks a month for an additional communication device with the same number...priceless! Enjoy and thanks again.
Great stuff john, I can’t seem to see the links for all your tec , any chance you can send it onto me ?
I like to use the victorinox hook for lifting my bike tires of the frame when I need to repair a leak.
Great use 👍
I see you went back to the SAK Compact over the James Brand Elis...
Clicked on the link but cant find that exact Beanie on Amazon. Please could you post another link.
I think you've done vids before showing pens from Tactile Turn and Bigidesign? Curious to know why you chose Bastion over those?
Love your edc Jon. I am very glad to see that your channel has grown so much (I remember it with 6k subs and look at you now! 124k not bad at all sir!) Gotta love the rolex gmt and the beanie suits you well!
thanks for the kind comments Chris
The less needed corkscrew… obviously you’re not french. But you introduced me to the Compact in another so video, so « sans rancune ».
Really nice video, you make a video talking about fvp drones please, i am really interested in knowing about your experience with fvp ❤
I haven't flown FVP for a long time - technology has moved on a lot since then
Very nice EDC. Loved the watches. I bought an Aurora A8 because of your reviews but I carry it as my secondary/back up light on my keys. I also carry at least 2 knives daily. What do you think redundancy? As in "two is one, one is none"? Cheers!
Totally agree with redundancy comment - but I usually factor in location or activity and associated risk 👍
@@JonGadget good criteria. Thanks for sharing! Keep up the great videos
My niece is going to get the Rovyvon a5 as a birthday present this year. Great little flashlight for her way to school.
Sounds great!
Thanks for talking about pockets and wearables v bag. I have a system I call OWN EDC. On Me; With Me; Near Me.
On me: in my pockets or attached to me. With me: a small satchel/pouch that is always within reach. Near me: a small bag that has a few of the larger items that I want to always have available. Which category each of my EDC items falls into depends on my day. It varies greatly between a workday when I am wearing a suit and working in an office, compared to the weekend when my clothing choice allows me to keep a lot more items On Me
Once again, Dr. Gadget, you've given us a very compelling, well-informed, and highly appreciated collection of essential, high-quality, well-designed, and somewhat-mostly-affordable regular-day tchotchkes. And you've managed to do it without even ONCE using the word "tactical". In fact, if I'm not mistaken, you haven't even included a single item of any kind with explosive ballistic potential. Don't bother on my account, sir, but might you not greatly improve your ratings if you went there? Best regards, Dr. Jon!
Not my area of expertise!
