      Thanks a lot Trent! It's great to hear that you like our channel. I haven't played Ora et Labora yet, but definitely want to give it a try. Dungeon Petz is another that is on my list. Vlaada Chvátil and Uwe Rosenberg are two of my favourite designers, so if we get a chance, we'd like to play them for sure. Thanks for the comment!

    Some small corrections! At 23:00 Pat didn’t need to pay 6 food but just 5 because babies only have to be fed 1 food the first time (but it’s 2 in subsequent harvests).
    Also in the harvest before that, Glai reproduced the sheep before feeding the family :) That had no effect since she already had enough food, but in theory, it could have an effect if you didn’t have enough food beforehand and would have to slaughter a sheep and be left with less than 2.

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi Dan. Thank you for your comment. You are correct - babies do not have to be fed the first time. Also, as you say, the timing of breeding is important. Feeding must be done before breeding. Hope you enjoyed the video!

    Thanks to both of you for a very entertaining playthrough of a great game. I really like your channel. Your videos are well-produced, with good lighting, sound, and clear camera angles that show what's happening. I love your post-game commentary.
    As to your question regarding general or specialized development, I tend to like a more generalized development, as it provides more flexibility, especially in the later turns.

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Keith. Thank you for your very positive comment. We are extremely happy that you are enjoying our channel and the production that goes into the videos.
      As you know, in Agricola you lose points for things you do not have on your farm. So, it does seem to make sense to generalise. However, I think that depending on your cards, it can be quite difficult to do everything. Resources can be scarce, so you may not be able to build all the fences, stables and extra rooms you need. Having to feed the family every harvest is a great mechanic too as it means that sometimes, even though a player really wants to take the resources, if he or she does not have enough food then that has to be the priority. Sometimes I find it works to specialise early on, and especially try to get a food engine going. Then later, try to fill in the gaps to avoid negative points.

      Mark, thank you very much for your compliment. Agricola is pretty easy to play once you get a round or two under your belt to see how it works. @AllAboardBoardgames  Před 2 lety

      Hi Justin. Agricola certainly is very deep and it is tough to get a good engine going, but after a few plays you will get it. The hardest thing at the start is to make sure you are not spending all of your actions on just feeding the family. Your starting occupation cards and minor improvements can give you some direction as to what to do. Agricola can often feel as if you are just getting your engine going when the game suddenly ends! But it is a fantastic game all the same!

    Thanks for this playthrough. If it weren't for this video, I would not have been able to play this game. The instructions aren't the best. I did a mock two-player game, and one player ended with 18 points while the other 33.

    • @AllAboardBoardgames
      @AllAboardBoardgames  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Efrain. We're delighted to have been of help to you. The game mechanics aren't too difficult after you play it for a couple of rounds, as you would have seen in your mock game. However, making the right choices and getting a big score is much more difficult and that is what makes Agricola so good. After you get a few games under your belt you will see how different choices will affect your scores and how there are many different ways you can take it. The solo mode is actually pretty good also, and you might try that too as you are learning it. You can do it as a kind of campaign, where you can keep one of the Occupations you played as a permanent Occupation for future games. Your score target increases as each game goes on so you have to be more and more efficient. It is good practice for when you feel comfortable enough to teach your playgroup. When you play with other players, the big difference will of course be that resources are more scarce since you won't have a monopoly on them...

      Hi Dustin,
      Thanks a lot for your comment. Welcome to the hobby! Board gaming is an extremely fun and rewarding pastime. Agricola is one of my favourite games. It has a really nice theme and is very relaxing but full of strategy. I can see how it looks intimidating before playing it but I find that most games turn out to be easy enough to follow once you start playing and get into the rhythm of them. We're delighted that our video helped you to get over the intimidation. We try to make our videos as clear and easy to follow as possible so that you guys can really see how the game works and also feel like you are joining the game. Still waiting for my kids to grow up so I can have playmates, lol. Though my 7 year old son is interested in them. I am currently playing Parks and Nightfall expansion with my 7 year old and 10 year old. Thinking of getting viticulture next but the theme seems to be not interesesting to my kids, so even if I like it have to think twice. Researching Mansion of Madness next and wonder if the family will enjoy it. I guess they are probably a bit too young to enjoy the wine theme of Viticulture. Have you tried Marvel Splendor? My friend's kid really likes it and the theme works really well for her. The mechanics are fun for adults too! Mansions of Madness is a fantastic game, and it is also fun to play solo. However, it might not be so suitable for young kids. Arkham Horror The Card Game might be a bit too difficult for them too, as well as the theme being a bit too adult. Elder Sign could work though, as it is really just trying to match the symbols on the dice, and is good fun! We would love to get around to making some videos like that at some stage. Glei could have split her initial pasture with that last wood for an extra point, not that it mattered.
    Now that I've discovered your channel, it's been great fun working my way through your content. Of course, for me, an Agricola playthrough by newbs (no offense) is a must-watch, especially since I found you via your "Farmers of the Moor" expansion playthrough, when Glei was obviously more aware of the demands for growth in the early game (not to mention the value of doubled lumber).
    It's Glei's innocent mistakes that help make a video like this useful, of course (and your own; i.e. the Hearth can bake multiple grain in one go). Your presentation is clear, there's little or no confusion about how the game is played. I'd love to see you come back to the game after you have a few more sessions under your belts, just to see how your approach to it has changed.
    Keep on keeping on! Question: will you ever extend your coverage to 4-player games? I know the pandemic inhibits that greatly if you don't have other gamers in your immediate bubble, but maybe someday. As I'm sure you likely know, Agricola (for instance) is a significantly different experience at higher player counts.

      Hi Geoff. We're really happy that you have been enjoying working your way through our videos. I'd be very interested to hear which ones you have liked best!
      The Agricola playthrough was really fun for us. We have played it a few times, and have really liked the game (we are by no means experts so no offence taken!). We do try to make our videos clear as we want people to be able to follow what is going on and to feel like they are sitting at the table with us, playing the game.
      Maybe at some stage we would be able to extend to 4-player games, but as you say, that is not so easy with the pandemic. It is something that would indeed be great to do after we get over the pandemic though. There are a lot of games that really change with the number of players and that would certainly make for interesting viewing for you guys I believe!

      @@AllAboardBoardgames Hi, Pat, thanks so much for your reply! It's not every day that CZcams creators actually engage with their viewers (which I can understand entirely). To answer your second question first, I tend to prefer worker placement/action selection type games with complex decision trees; my current roster of favorites would include (besides Agricola, still my #1) Snowdonia, Dominant Species, Tzolkin, Hansa Teutonica, Terra Mystica, A Feast for Odin (I'm pretty bad at this one so far), Caverna, Caylus, Kanban. Dungeon Petz (which I haven't played in ages; I'm terrible at it), Village, Gugong, and Concordia, among others. I rarely play 2p, though, mostly 3- or 4-player, so I can't really say how you and Glei might like them (other than Caverna and Dominant Species, which both scale very well to 2p)
