    Best explanation so far. Draw card for the round. Replenish board resources. Place workers. Collect resource/play action. Repeat til harvest. Repeat All 6 times. Tally points.

    This was a terrific tutorial. I found the rule book really quite impenetrable, making even the turn sequence very hard to suss out. It works better as a summary of the rules for someone who knows the game than someone getting to it from no baseline.
    This, however. This was gold. I walked through the game a couple of times with the book, but with this one I grok it.

      Also, what's with the slip cases for your cards. The family has been getting into more board games of late and I wouldn't mind ideas for keeping them in good shape.

      Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad it was helpful. It’s a lot to take in a first. For the card sleeves I use Fantasy Flight purple cards. They are great quality and fairly affordable.

    • @TheLomdr
      @TheLomdr Před 7 lety

      Kinda goes along with this version of Agricola being 'lighter' than the non-revised versions, as a kidding aside. To help with resource, animal, vegetable, and food set up, I use 10 small tins for each, the tins are big enough to hold all of the wood and cows for the components that come with the game. Similar to putting out a plano, but more modular in case of table space issues. My tins are 2 1/4" square or so and about an inch high, for reference. Might remove the Major Improvement board if I get the revised Farmers of the Moor expansion, since my box can just barely hold everything.

  • @AppleZaider

    Amazing job! I’ve never played Agricola; to be honest, it never drew my attention (shocker I know). But I decided to give your video a shot and because of you, I want to buy and play this game ASAP! You just simply took your time explaining the set-up, every component, all the do’s and don’ts of this game. It was just a really awesome video! Hats off to you and thank you for inspiring me to play this. 😀

  • @julianpearce218
    @julianpearce218 Před 4 lety +1

    Thank you for this video. This actually seems to be a very simple game to pick up (although it may take much longer to master it). This new version seems easier to understand.
    It seems to be a common problem (at least for the older version) that the rules that come with the game are hard to understand and many owners of the game could not even get past the set-up phase. In the older version you need to select a different set of action cards depending on the number of players This version appears to avoid that confusion by instead utilising an extension (interlocking piece) on the left hand side of the player board.
    The second big confusion in the older version is the "family game" recommended for novice players. Essentially the family/novice game is just a game WITHOUT occupation and MINOR improvement cards. In the older version there is also a reverse side to the player board without options for occupation or minor improvements (That side has a round circle depicting an adult and a child, representing "Family").
    Once you get past the set-up the game seems pretty much the same.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  Před 4 lety

      Thanks so much! Yeah the newer version seems to be streamlined based on what I’ve heard about the older version. Everything was pretty easy to understand the more I played it solo and I did a lot of BGG searching as well. In my opinion it’s really worth it to learn this game though such a great strategy game.

  • @TakeshiNM
    @TakeshiNM Před 6 lety +1

    Awesome tutorial! I'm not sure if it was already brought up, but in the scoring part of the pastures, you only get points for each enclosed pasture, and not for each individual square, so you'd get 3 points for pastures in your example

    @sasakijune Před 4 lety +1

    This is great, thank you! I couldn't make sense of the rulebook and your tutorial cleared everything up. One minor thing is that I wish you had gone into the details that you purposefully left out, as being able to learn all the rules (including minor nuances) off of one video is invaluable. Since it's a video people could just skip the parts that are not relevant to them.

    • @thediceyreview

    with the accumalating resources leave them on the other side of the arrow than he has put them example the wood should not go in the forest until it has not been taken in previous round at the end of the round slide everything that has not been taken this round over as the arrow suggests and put the new now accumalitive resource on the eg 3 wood spot while the exisiting eg 3 wood stays on the other side of the arrow in the trees this will help to eliminate any confusion as to whether said resource has been or not been replenished

A passerby who played before gave us a hand (thankfully) and we made it to 1 harvest before Mayfair had to close the grounds for the night. Great tutorial - very easy to listen too and clearly explained. I much prefer your very straight-laced form of instruction rather than the individuals who already think they are mini movie-stars and spoil the games by being irritating - so well done you for keeping it informative and to the point. It's a fairly heavy-weight game I have struggled with in the past, and have played solo - your video was a good reminder of what a good game it is - thanks.

    This game is testing me in terms of getting a handle on the rules. The book is unclear and the you tube videos don’t touch on every aspect. Hopefully everyone doesn’t mind we bombarding you with questions.
    I played a two player game with myself to get a feel for playing.
    First question - major improvement cards sometimes show you can exchange animals for food. How do you do that ? You cant hold animals in your supply. Can you do it when you go to work ? Like the sheep in round 1. Can I take them and convert to food then?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  Před 3 lety

      So for those cards you can convert either animals from your fields or directly when you take them. So for instance during the harvest phase you could convert three of the sheep from your pastures and use that food to feed your people, or if you go to the space to gather 4 sheep you could immediately convert two into 4 food then put 2 into your pastures.

      P.S. 47 is a very, very good score. Typical winning scores, depending on the number of players, will range from the low 30s into the high 40s. Any score 50+ is extremely good, while anything under 30 ain't so hot.

    You actually made a mistake when counting points. A "pasture" in terms of scoring, is a fenced area, no matter how big. So you have only 3 pastures there. If you fence half of your board in one big pasture, you still get only one point for it. (But you don't get penalties for unused farm spaces.

    I like how these worker placement games are well thought out except the ending. Ending is always disappointing for me because there is this pause and it's not clear who won or did good until you count the points you've earned. It was same with Tikal and Carcassonne.
    I like when you try to reach a score or number of things during the play and first one who reaches wins so there is no mystery to who is doing better.

      I've never played the original. From my understanding though the revised version is more balanced and the cards are curated by the designer to be a better introduction. All of the content is available now as expansion content as well.

    Hi and thanks for the tutorial. It was really helpfull. But, I've got one question. When you did your harvesting, you've got one field of grain that contained three grains. You removed only one of them so there where two left in the field. Why is that? Is there anytime you can remove one of them so there it is only one left, og is the field "stucket" with two grains forever? And what about next round and next time you do go on a action card that allowes you to saw grain? There is some questions about this fields that I don't understand. Does every field that has been sawed automaticly refills to the next harvest? Or... How does this work?

    • @HansenRonny
      @HansenRonny Před 4 lety +1

      And there is two more questions:
      1: The accumulation fields. If one of the players moves his or hers worker to one of those fields, for ex sheep. The player takes all the sheeps that is on that field at the time, but when and how does the field refill?
      2: This is about the extra handcards, minor uppgrade and/or occupaition card, if one players run out of cards? What then? Does the player get new one on his or her hand after use of one?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  Před 4 lety

      Ronny Hansen Hi Ronnie! Good questions. Each time you harvest, you take one grain or vegetable off each field with good(s) on them. When those items come off the fields they are then in your supply. You can use grain that’s in your supply to take sow actions with.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  Před 4 lety

      Ronny Hansen each accumulation space has the number printed next to it added each round. So the sheep space has one sheep added each round. Players will never get more cards after their initial hands.

    • @HansenRonny
      @HansenRonny Před 4 lety

      @@thediceyreview Hi again and thanks a lot for good answers. But there is still something I don't understand about harvesting. What happenes with those grains and vegetables left on the field? Does they grow back automaticly to give more to harvest until the next harvestround? I guess the reason there is one item vegetables left on the field this is because it still growing until next harvesting, but how does this work? And so on. There is two grains left on the grain field. What happens to those two? Does these two grains grow back to three and and you can harvest one more time from that field to? It is okey with the crop you have harvested. These are for use to for examplefood and so on, but my question are about those left on the field and the field it self? In another way: Is the field possible to reharvest from next round, and if; how to do it?

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  Před 4 lety

      Ronny Hansen Hi Ronny,
      Every harvest phase you remove one vegetable/grain from each field. Any remaining goods stay on the field. So in your example you would take one of the grain from the stack of three. Those two grain would stay on the field. Then the next time you harvest, you would take one more leaving one grain. When the fields empty completely following this process you would then be able to plant in those fields again.

    • @thediceyreview
      @thediceyreview  Před 4 lety

      Hannah Alberson hey Hannah, in general I go with Fantasy Flight sleeves for non standard sizes. They’re a bit long for my taste but they have a consistent quality for each pack. In general for euro style games you can google “Standard Euro” card sleeves. Other brands like mayday are also good too.
