Conflicted is such a good word you used to describe how Hornet's character interactions are like with the player
Especially when we get the main theme sad variation at the end it almost feels like Its reflecting how hornet feels about the knight and their fate.
I would definitely recommend the song Sealed Vessel from this game it captures the themes of this story really well

This game is phenomenal, and the soundtrack in my opinion is a masterpiece. The motifs that run throughout the entire OST are so well done and perfectly accompany the gameplay. I expect the Silksong soundtrack to be similarly amazing when the game finally releases.

but of all the songs I've heard in my life, hollow Knight's music for me is art.
Of course, music as a whole is art, but some of Hollow Knight's songs make me look, hear, and think, "THIS IS ART!" Hollow Knight's music makes me want to verbalize how beautiful the music in this game is.
he already has a confirmed sequel and as much as I love the entire Hollow Knight game, the visuals, the art, the story, which I'm obviously looking forward to seeing in the sequel, I would be lying if I said that Ost of this future game It's not what I'm most looking forward to seeing.

Christopehr Larkin is a genius when it comes to video game OSTs. hollow knight is a game of almost no words, the main character you play as literally doesn't have a mouth. so being able to use music in order to give different environments, characters and enemies so much depth of character while also making it not distracting and sometimes even helpful is the work of an absolute genius.
even here, the reason why he only uses strings (piano is a string instrument, fight me) is because it is played during a boss fight that uses silk strings as weapons. and yet he managed to compose this song despite the constraints he imposed on himself to just make a little wink to the player.

OH MAN this is the first time im listening to this song actively while actually using my musical knowledge and experience. and OMG the way all the parts fit together with harmonies and the rhythms are literally bringing tears to my eyes, especially when remembering how thematically suited this is to the hornet boss battle.

One of my favorites of this OST is Nosk, which you can easilly miss, if you're not going for the full completion. Amazing secret boss, with a great build up to the fight and the score really stands out, out of other pieces I think.

Chris Larkin created the most absolute PERFECT video game soundtrack with Hollow Knight's OST, and I mean that without hyperbole at all. It both heightens the mood, sets the setting, and explores the themes of the game so beautifully, and his consistent mastery of leitmotif is across the entire game is just divine.
One of my favourite games ever. So much atmosphere. Every part of the game is hauntingly eerily beautiful.

I recently finished Hollow Knight and I recently found your stuff on CZcams so it's a perfect match for my interests!
I never noticed that this song only uses strings. That's actually relevant to the story since Hornet is the daughter of a Bug King and the leader of a clan of spiders so she has some string /silk powers along with royal blood. That's pretty cool!
When you are pleying the game so many part of the music were brainbreaking and how you could listening to the feelings was OMG. So fun. Would search for more of hollow to see if you did more.

Have you heard any of the 'Bloodborne' OST? Excellent game with an amazing soundtrack. I would describe it as 'Nightmare Orchestral'. 'The Hunter' and 'Ludwig, The Holy Blade' are a couple great ones but I love the whole thing and would definitely enjoy seeing your take on it.
I would highly recommend playing Hollow Knight. If you enjoy Bloodorne you'll definitely love it

the cool thing about that section you said was 4/4, it actually stays in 3/4! but the quick notes are groupings of dotted 8th notes, so 3 16ths fit in each stab
As a percussionist whoâs marched in a few drumlines, I loved that you talked about meters, tuplets, syncopations, and other rhythmic patterns.
Iâve been obsessed with some of the hollow knight tracks and looked at a few reaction videos. While theyâve all been fascinating in their own way, yours has been my favorite. Iâll definitely check your channel and twitch out!
You can hear connections to Hornet's theme in a lot of other themes in the game, from the White Palace of the Pale King to the proud Hive Knight, and really it makes sense as Hornet is the most important character in the entire game in many ways.
Hollow Knight OST is just perfection. I'm not the biggest fan of the game itself, but the soundtrack has a special place in my heart. Btw, other two games where the soundtrack is just beyond perfection are Payday 2 and the Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune series. Would love see you react to some of the songs from these games, because I'm sure you'll like it.
7:36 I believe the piano notes are just semiquavers, not sextuplets. the time signature is still 6/8, the semiquavers just fit into it weirdly. but the high violin staccatos are just crotchets
Really recommend more Hollow Knight, the ost is a masterpiece! You might want to listen to the main theme first, it's really cool to find pieces of that melody in many of the other pieces like Broken Vessel and Sealed Vessel

When you listen to more songs from that Hollow Knight soundtrack you will hear a clear leitmotiv to the whole thing.
Definitely check out City of Tears from the OST if you have not already listened. As soon as that song hit my ears while playing, it changed my entire perception of what the game was going to be.
one of the really cool things about hollow knights OST is that very few songs have any percussion instruments in them, which was completely intentional by the composer because it makes all of the songs feel like they are missing a tiny core aspect, like all the songs are somewhat hollow. Its incredibly fitting for the entire game, and when a song starts playing that does have percussion instruments its incredibly impactful.
You should check the OST "The Grimm Troupe" or "Nightmare King" fom Hollow Knight too! They have some rock/metal things going on, but especially the second one

I very much recommend reacting to the "Mantis Lords" and "The Grimm Troupe" tracks from Hollow Knight as well, some of my favourites, Christopher Larkin is very talented.
Mantis Lords is a good one. Favorite boss fight and one of the best themes from the OST
It's amazing you made your way to the Hollow Knight soundtrack! There is a lot of amazing pieces in the soundtrack. One I would recommend is "Pale Court," which is a live recording session that was meant to be featured outside of the game.

There are a lot of different epic and sad songs in this :p Some of my favorites are the City of Tears soundtrack, the mantis lords soundtrack (of course it'd be a shame not to listen to the sisters of battle version), and then probably White Palace
Great commentary on this music! The entire soundtrack is quite amazing. I was wondering if perhaps you would consider the section with the triplets against the low string stings (just before hearing the reiteration of the soaring melody in the violin) as a hemiola in the sixteenth notes with the low strings being percussive on beats 1 2 and 3? It also sounds like when the sixteenth notes are first introduced there are hits on the & of 2 and on beat 3 to show that the meter hasn't changed? The piece seems to be in 3/4 (or possibly 6/8) with a sesquialtera rhythm bouncing between dotted quarters and straight quarter notes depending on the music.

I haven't played Hollow Knight yet but this ost reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus for some reason. If you plan on reacting to its music in the future i would suggest listening to "The Opened Way", it's a pretty short but epic song!
Genuinely so excited to watch this one, Hollow Knight is in my top 3 of the videogames with my favorite soundtrack. It would be great if you reacted to the rest of the OST or at least some of other popular themes. I would also really recommend some themes from both Mario Galaxy games and Undertale, the other two in my top 3.

Ohh yess, hollow knights music reaction, i was waiting this since you start reacting the dooms ost. Cristopher Larking is a genius, the music he made to this game is allways awesome, the leitmotives between some tracks than tell a story, the great use of the different isntruments and the great writing. He is just incredible, and the game is imcredibely amazing too.

This song using strings so much is super clever, as the character Hornet uses a needle and thread as her main weapons. Incorporating strings as her character theme was so obvious in hindsight, but adds that extra bit of flavor to the game/music

The way he said it sounded conflicted made me happy because thatâs how itâs supposed to sound in the context of the game. Hornet is conflicted in this fight. She knows she has to fight you but she also doesnât really want to.

Ok, if youâre listening to Hollow Knight OST, Iâd suggest The Grimm Troupe from it. That and Nightmare Grimm (which goes hand in hand with each other - both are for the same boss in the actual game but different versions).
I recommend mantis lords and grim troupe. My favorites. Everything with the mantis lords.
