  • This video is a quick "throw & go" mix on a Presonus StudioLive 24R console. Im still new to this console and I am trying to get my speed up on its GUI. This is a typical race to see how fast you can get a mix dialed in on a console you don't know without a sound check. Read: mixing a festival set!

    I just came across your video , have some Questions ,
    So you recorded the band first , and then used that recording to create a live mixing with the mixer app ??
    What you used to
    Record the band ? Thanks

      @@SrBarbasmusic correct. This was a performance of a band I mixed live. I recorded the performance then brought it back into the console at a later date to make this video.

    Hi Billy.. its a quick mix (15mins) demo. and i understand the message here.
    but just curious. is it because its just quick mix and just to get it done optimally that is why you don't switch the eq comp (pre/post eq). or you normally doest it like that.

    • @billylaguardia
      @billylaguardia  Před 27 dny

      I generally compress after EQ so that any boost doesn’t trigger the compressor unnecessarily. I can’t remember what order I had them in the video.

      @FMI_TheMixEngineEar Před 27 dny

      @@billylaguardia i was thinking the same thing. in the video you didn't change the processing order , just get on with it and mix. the purpose is to have a quick and good mix under 15mins. i would have done the same 🤣.

    Hi, Great Video. I have an issue when I trying to record on a DAW (logic, Reaper, Live) but I do not seem t have control over the gain trim. The term nob is not affecting the signal level, leading to distortion when the signal gets too high from source. Please help.

    @billy
    Billy- I’m a studiolive 24R user here. If I had to do it over again I would probably go M32C. Still, with a DBX drive rack as a substitute for your matrix output, I can work it.
    I always get stuck in the FX section. I never really even know where to start in terms of settings. Care to share a high level thought for drum verb, vocal verb, delay and pitch as you have set up here? Screenshot or just a comment good.
    Thanks and keep up the real world, practical advice. Taking an EQ knife to my subs in a judicious way has tightened them up so much! I am no longer living in fear of big moves!!!

      Check this video out, I show how I set up my fx: czcams.com/video/hnOaR16cr7A/video.htmlsi=G34P37-ySPGHLZFK. I generally start with a plate for drums, an ambience verb for vox, +9 and -9 for pitch, and an 8th note tap delay with 0% feedback.

    Do you know if any Presonus StudioLive consoles be used connected to a DAW using Studio One, Pro Tools, etc. to simultaneously mix multiple tracks at once as the song is playing (real-time) when mastering as normally done in studio? Or is it just basic live mixer with only the added feature of recording the separate tracks (which is still pretty cool)?
    From what I understand the older (‘classic’) StudioLive 16.4.2 (I have one) etc. models (and most other similar consoles) cannot actually be used in combination with a DAW app for the real-time simultaneous multi-track mastering and can only perform the recording stage of the process. Hence in order gain the ability to do real-time multi-track recording (using faders for at least eight individual tracks) while mastering with a DAW app requires the addition of a Presonus FaderPort 8 or 16 (or similar device). Please correct me if I am wrong or confirm if I am right. Thanks.

    • @billylaguardia

      They can be used with a DAW in real time. That’s how I made this video. Just change your channel input source to USB on the console and set the output of the DAW channel accordingly to correspond with the mixer channel.

  • @f.dproducciones

    how did you connect the daw with the presonus and mix in real time in the presonus.
    Did you by any chance connect the internet cable with the USB cable to the PC?

      USB cable. Just set your inputs to look at USB in the mixer, then assign the output of each channel in your daw to the corresponding channel in the Presonus.

      Set the output of each channel of your DAW to a mixer channel. Each mixer channel should be set to USB as its input.

    • @djabthrash
      @djabthrash Před 2 měsíci

      My guess would be some kind of pitch shifter effect used as a chorus to make vocals sound wider or something.

    • @billylaguardia
      @billylaguardia  Před měsícem

      @@URock_Live_Band_Karaoke it’s a widening effect. The pitch is increased by +9 on one side and -9 on the other. It gives a chorus effect to help mono sources get some width. It’s great for horns.

    • @billylaguardia
      @billylaguardia  Před 2 lety

      You can download the GUI for most consoles to get things roughly configured for show files. However, I don’t think that they pass audio.

    • @djabthrash
      @djabthrash Před rokem

      Just emulate the console workflow through your daw, using similar eq, comp and gate plugins.
      I do that in Reaper to train for the X32/m32.
