      I have a friend that has gone on a few missionary trips, I'm pagan BTW. I asked her what they did when they went. She said they sang them songs. I was confused. They spent all that money for flights, hotels and food to sing to orphans in orphanages. Wouldn't it have been better to send them the money they spent on the trip? They could've used that for things they needed. But I guess they wouldn't have that nice trip.

There's a large scale tourism as well, especially near Port Blair and Neil & Ross Islands, with fantastic resorts and 5 star hotels. You can look it up. You are undoubtedly correct about the viral threat to the Sentinelese, though not through smallpox. According to the World Health Organization, that disease has been eradicated in the world; the only known human disease to have done so. Smallpox now only exists on laboratory shelves.
      People older than 50 years are the last generation to have been vaccinated against that disease, so if there ever is a *real* "Wuhan," only some older parents and grandparents will have an immunity to it.
      I remember the huge push to vaccinate us, all the children in the country and I was one of them. We were vaccinated in school. We all lined up in the gym and got the vaccine via a 4-pronged stamp that we all got in our upper arms. Those vaccines have caused a starburst pattern scars on those of us to have very large scars that last for the rest of one's life. Some have more serious scars than others; it's always in the deltoid muscle of one of the upper arms.

      Another is that these are people who have been surviving as long as we all have, evolving as long as we all have, and yet they've made due with the technology they wield.
      They're not just a snapshot of neolithic life, they're also just as culturally developed and involved as any other human. What we miss out on in insight by closely studying them we gain by their purity. They're an example of indigenous life that was never colonized. Where else?
      It's interesting to think, though, that if one surveyor managed to find phosphate rock or some other mineral asset, things would have gone much differently for these people. They've done right by fragging every dude that comes ashore.

    These people are not harming anyone but for those who appear as if invading their home. They are within their rights to defend themselves and their families with all due prejudice, yes?
    We could learn some things from them if we were brave enough to build a bridge metaphorically, but honestly, what is expected to be learned? Their history as they know it from myths, legends and preserved stories of events that have occurred over 30,000 years? How they survive there? I'd imagine that the latter is very simple and easy to make out, so... we arent going to help them, will certainly be an interference to their lives, and a danger too with our cooties that can't harm us butcertainly can harm these pristine, unpolluted people.
    And the bit about seeking justice for humans they have killed, that's bullocks! Those who have died there due to iron-tipped arrows were breaking the law, sometimes many laws, and certainly seeking to establish their religion there in loving arrogance. They may not have a god or pantheon, you know. Christian Missionary efforts are causing far more harm than help, and it is truly arrogant to assume you have a right to force your views on anyone, much less an ancient people like the Sentinelese.

It’s within everyone’s best interest if we can communicate enough to say “we’re not here to hurt you, we’re just stuck until someone comes and gets us”. Other than that we really ought to let them be.

    What we think we can learn is surely not more valuable than just leaving them them alone. There's no scientific value, only curiousity. We aren't going to discover a new medicinal breakthrough or find a solution to our energy needs. Humans hate mysteries, but this one doesn't need solving.

    I say leave them alone. They clearly want to be left alone. And they're *far* better off without us.
    Would I love to learn about them and their history? Of course! But not at the risk of their health and culture.
    Every time an uncontested tribe gets contacted, a large percentage die due to disease and violence. And then, inevitably, their culture is irrevocably lost forever.
    Leave them be, they deserve the right to determine their own destiny, the same as the rest of us.

      frfr its such an utterly disrespectful mindset you have to have to go and try completely uninvited to convert people who already have their own religion and culture and who have already expressed multiple times that they don't want interaction. His death was 100% his own fault and i find it hard to feel bad for him at all when he could've done literally anything else instead. If you want to spread word of your religion and show that your religion is something to aspire to and has worth idk maybe do good works like you are supposed to for people who have turned to you for help instead of harassing folks who are just trying to live their lives. Like, just volunteer at a fucking soup kitchen or shelter like a normal person would@@Chris-hx3om

      And what really enrages me even more about this case? The leader of the extremist "religion", he belonged to, who had sent him there to convert the "savages" by any means to "save" them, said, that they would simply keep trying.
      Since we havent heard of a follow-up, I would like to think, that the authorities saw that interview too and took steps to deny visas to any more of those.... nutters is the most charitable description, I can think of.

      Imagine people trying to enter your land carying a group of deseases that does NOT affect them (because they descend from the ones that survived that deseases centuries ago), but can, and will wipe out you, all your beloved ones and your whole nation......
      Artillery and minefields would be the least lethal weapons used, and the nuclear option would be certainly considered.....
      Certainly the sentinel people DO NOT know about the deseases we had suffered (and survived) for the las 40.000 years, for wich they have no defense (a mix that would make the black d*ath look like a walk in the park), they only know that every time a foreigner arrives at their island, people die.......
      Imagine smallpox, lepra, covid, 40.000 years evolutioned stomach and lung flues, HIV, rubella, mumps, chickenpox, measels, (and whatever other deseases that we do not know about, because we defeated them in prehistoric times) all assaulting this poor people at the same time.
      In the conquest of America, 90% of the indigenous people who died, did so without ever seeing a white man, simply swept away by sucessive waves of deseases that the europeans brought, unknowingly to people who had no defense against them.......
      For all what we know, even the bacterias living in our stomach in a symbiotic relationship with us, (that are a fundamental part of our digestive procces) could be fatal for them.........
      Even if they didn`t realize it, it was self-defense.......

    It has become obvious we should let people alone to thrive where they are from. "Mixing" has caused strife for tribes worldwide, as cultures do best when left alone to do as they have always done. We should leave these people be forever. As we are not "God" to "Save anyone". They are happiest in their home. Respect leaving them there.

  • @JRS3540

    I believe hands off is the best policy. While the Sentinelese may "not know better", they've made clear that they don't want outside input (as with all societies, there have been some smaller groups that were open to it but the larger group isn't, and the larger group will suffer anything that goes wrong like disease).
    If we remain hand's off it will allow for future study as well. Today we can't study this truly unique society without being seen and interfering but in 10-20 years we could use camoflaged drones or higher definition monitoring techniques to study them without being seen.
    The Sentinelese aren't going anywhere unless we do something to hurt their people / damage their way of life. The only incentive to rush interaction is the pride of those who want to be the first to do it, most likely at the expense of the last truly autonomous group on the planet. Leave them alone unless we have tech that allows us to do it right, they'll survive until then.

    • @Tea_laBlue
      @Tea_laBlue Před 9 dny

      I mean, they could run into some sort of trouble in the future. No society lives forever.
      But they seem pretty OK right now. And we know what happens when isolated populations are met by not isolated people. Smallpox 😅 or maybe they would just get the flu, and they would still die. We don’t need to bottleneck their population, especially if they seem OK

    • @JRS3540
      @JRS3540 Před 8 dny

      @Tea_laBlue It's unlikely that they'll be brought down by anything on their island, they've mastered their small world well enough to survive this long. There is a small possibility that some of our pollution will wash ashore and introduce something dangerous, but if we directly interfere, it's almost guaranteed that the Sentinelese will cease to exist. I know you were agreeing with my post but I wanted to add some thoughts for anyone else that might be reading.

    "Tragic" is not the word I would use to describe the news story this video opened with and returned to fifteen minutes in. Stupidity is only tragic when it claims the lives of the non-stupid. In this sense, the colonization of the Americas was tragic, as were the abduction and return of the Sentinelese children and the initial actions of the salvage company described later. Proselytizing evangelical religion destroys everything it touches.

    • @Talisguy
