      Hey mate, quick question, i have a monoblock that runs 2 parallel channels & 1 DVC 4ohm SUB.
      Can i stick one side of my DVC's positive and negative into one side of the amp and the other DVC positive and negative into the other?
      Does that break it down to two ohm as its a monoblock? How would i get it back to 4ohm? Do i just use one side of the amp to stay at 4ohm? Last question, Sound wise, whats better, running my 4ohm 12 inch at 2 ohm or 4 ohm? thanks a lot.

    What about showing us a final impedance of 4 ohms. This really is hard to find this info online. A single 4 ohm sub wired specifically to a 4 ohm amp. Why is that so hard to find?!

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  Před rokem +1

      Because it's a direct connection, if it is a SVC 4 ohm sub, simply connect your speaker wire to the only terminals on the sub, and connect those directly to the amp. There is no parallel / series connection being there is only one sub, and one coil to connect.

As well battery upgrade helps. If this doesn't fully solve the problem then look into a super capacitor. Much different than the traditional capacitors, they work same way.

And I wired my dvc sub to 8ohm and bridged that on a separate channel because I was told most 4 channel amps today can't handle 2ohm loads bridged. Is this true?I want to get the most out of my subwoofer without damaging my amp or speakers. Also this is installed all on a motorcycle which is why I am running them on a 4channel amp to save space. Should I be running my sub at 8ohm or 2ohm.?

    • @mikefrom1974
      @mikefrom1974 Před 2 lety

      The math here is: wiring speakers in parallel gives you the inverse of the sum of the ohms' inverses, in series it just adds the ohms. Since a DVC has the same resistance on both coils the rule becomes parallel = half, series = double. Since most car speakers come in 2 or 4 ohms you can not get to 6 with a single DVC. Somw workarounds / caveats:
      1) Ohms listed my mfr are not always exact. In fact the speaker demo'd in this video resulted in just over 6 ohms when wired in series (instead of 8). So "somewhere between 6 and 8" is a safe bet for wiring that specific 4ohm DVC in series. You could hook that up and if the ohms were a bit high you'd sacrifice a bit of performance but wouldn't blow your amp.
      2) If you had 2 DVC speakers you have many different ways of wiring them. Wire one of them in parallel to itself to get 2 ohms, then wire that whole mess in series with a single 4 ohm coil on the other speaker. You'd then have 6 ohms of impedance for the set. Verify with a MM.

      I assume the P3s are DVC 4 ohm, so when wired in parallel each, and then both subs together, it would be a 1 ohm impedance final. So I'd recommend a mono amp, wired at 1 ohm 1200w RMS. amzn.to/3BxW0iO

    Probably a stupid question. Is it not possible to wire 1 dvc 4ohm sub to a final ohm of 4?
    Also if your amp is stronger than your sub is rated.. like a 400 rms @4ohm sub and your amp does 600rms @4ohm.. you could wire it so that its 8ohms and REDUCE the amps rms output? Is that correct?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  Před rokem +1

      No you cannot physically wire your DVC 4 ohm sub to 4 ohms, only 2 or 8 ohms by itself. 8 ohms is pretty inefficient and don’t recommend. I’d recommend changing the amp or the sub.

  • @VALAREZ
    @VALAREZ Před 4 lety

    Okay I'm learning and make moves faster than I'm learning, here's the scenario I'm in.
    I had the Polk audio powered sub (pw10) for years, recently watched a show with clipping bass, and it half way blew the sub by the time the show was over. in hindsight, I remember the bass in those scenes sounding distorted, but I was too entranced in the show to stop watching.
    I already took the liberties to order a KICKER CVR104 dual coil 4 ohm to replace the stock woofer. (long before I learned anything about power matching)
    For videos I see the stock woofer is a single coil 4ohm so with that I know the amp can handle at least 4ohms, but there is little information on the amp other than it supposed to do 50-100 watts rms.
    The sub I ordered claims 50--400 watts arms ( 200 watts per coil)
    So my thinking is, I should wire it in series, and get a max power of 100 watts and it should match the amp's output?
    it's a small room, I'm not too concerned about using the full power of the sub, I know I'd need a whole new amp to safely to that, I just want to know if my line of thinking is correct before I hook the thing up.
    My goal is to get about as much bass as I got out of the cheap driver without hurting the amp, and hopefully having my setup last a few more years before needing to deal with this shit again.

      However wired at 8ohms AND still way underpowered it still sounds great either as good as the original driver or better.
      in fact I'm pretty sure it's moving more air because I'm hearing some port noise on low notes I didn't hear before, but once I sit in the sweet spot it just sounds smooth and clear, you just hear the port noise when outside of the sweet spot.
      SO I'm thinking of adding a second sub just to add more area to the sweet listing spot.
