I agree it’s not as bad as when someone paints over old decorative wall trim, but pretty close. I also cringe when someone paints an old antique dresser. I just don’t get why anyone would want to ruin a great antique.
It's not like painting over oak furniture which a lot of thrift DIYs do. She used out-of-style cast-offs and gave them a beautiful new purpose.
You know everybody has their own view as to what should be repurposed and how to repurpose it. I've known many people that have cringed at painting any kind of wood grain. But look in art history and see how many beautiful pieces of wood were painted over. If this really bothers you then perhaps you could rescue things from thrift stores and yard sales and spend many many hours of elbow grease and chemicals to restore the wood to its original Beauty. I say hooray for you and celebrate your creativity. I also say hooray for people that see something that has been damaged and essentially tossed out to not be used for anything and turned it into something very useful and beautiful in their lives. Remember if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. Celebrate each person's individuality and creativity.

I literally cried when that gorgeous wood plate was painted in the second project. I know it's all subjective, but some things just shouldn't be painted imo.
Absolutely agree ...I am cringing right now! A newer wooden platter would have been more respectful to the handiwork of that plate!

There are very collectable Danish and Norwegian wooden plates and bowls that are worth $60+ USD. Please check the bottom of your purchases so you don't destroy an item worth $$. Anything marked R.W. Norway, for example, please don't paint.

I don't understand the second project. It was a lovely tray to begin with and then she paints it giving it a terrible, rough look. Everyone these days seems to think they're crafty.

The first idea had a touch of whimsy given the creative matching the pieces to create it and the colors. The second idea would have been finished just by staining the feet to match the wood of the plate, for the plate was just too beautiful to be painted.

The cupcake stand was cute. A child's birthday party or a little one's "tea party" would be perfect.
I’ve been buying single plates at goodwill or where ever, fo a couple of years now, I noticed now the stores are wrapping in either 6 or 8 plates in a bundle, really miss not buying the plates single, I’ve made some beautiful plate servers, only cost me about $4-5 dollars, all of the cake servers, snacks, meat n chez trays are so handy n will last forever. Wish I would of taken a pictures of them before giving them away, found awesome bone China 🇨🇳 plates n bowls, buying single plates for $1.00 verses $8-12 for a bundle, especially when I only need singles plates., I’ve picked up Sale plates at Hobby Lobby after a Holiday or Walmart etc for under a dollar. I love Goodwill stores n of course Dollar Tree, one can make beautiful gifts from these places

Im sorry but this just looks like a kids grade school art project. Something that is probably more sooner than latter going to end up back at the good will just in a different form. If you sell the idea like that then it makes more sense.

I like it. I would have stopped at too tiers because the spacer between the middle and top was awkward. I think putting feet on it and not adding the very top bowl would have been even nicer.

After watching This I would say, ONLY a degree on How to make a You-Tube Video.!! Also, How to spray paint and Paint with a brush.!! Would make ok projects for kids under the age of FIVE.!!

Some of you ppl are living in the dark ages with the comments against her use of these wood pieces. These original items were worn, possibly souvenirs , and def not collectables or of any real value in and of themselves. I def appreciate natural wood objects, but she just choose to show a way of repurposing worn pieces into something fresh and more contemporary. The end

She mixed something in that paint that is missing. It changed the texture of the paint.
She said it was sand stone paint or something. You can add sand to your paint and do it.

By the way seasoned smart crafters know you put food in clear glass or plastic containers then on painted surfaces.
Use a wood cleaner then oil the wood plates, both ideas were just awful, but to each their own.
