    You probably could use this project for a table top fire box using pebbles or rocks and the butane cans you use to keep food warm. I think it’s butane)

      You have to be careful with concrete it can explode when exposed to Fire! That's why they make fire bricks as normal bricks (can) explode if used in a fire pit.. it won't always happen but it's a slight risk due to the water and air content within the bricks or concrete mix. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

    Instead of dowels, use 3/4" PVC pipe cut to length; That way the holes are already there and you have ready all the fitment options (caps, 90/45 connectors, couplers, etc) that come with PVC.

    Only a few inches deep, the plants will struggle to thrive, not enough soil and nutrients and they will dry very quickly. Minimum dept for a planter should be 8 inches, even better 12"

      👀 It seemed to not give a clean edge since I'd have less struggle with an Xacto blade, a decent pair of scissors, or an average kitchen paring knife.

    very nice! Just remember, you will need to water those plants everyday -- as not only will the concrete absorb the moisture from the dirt, but the planter is very shallow -- speaking from experience - beautiful job!

    You can make these planters with hypertufa: 1.5 part perlite, 1.5 part peat moss, 1pt Portland cement. Must be Portland cement. Other ingredients can vary: vermiculite, sand, and some others

    FYI a little water in the bottom of the bucket prior to adding the cement stops the dry cement from sticking to the bottom of the bucket making it easier to mix 😉

    If you add equal amounts of Perlite to the mortar, it become half as heavy as just mortar.

    You could use toilet paper or paper towel rolls, instead of wooden dowels, to create the negative space for the drainage holes. That way, you could simply pull them out, rather than having to drill.

    Just a thought. Use PVC for your drainage holes. Grease them up, punch them all the way through then seal around them with silicone caulk. Much easier

    Look into creating hypertufa planters instead. Similar, light weight, and flexible in design possibilities despite still using concrete. You’ll like it!

    I have two plastic sconces on my fence that are lovely with wave petunias. They are worn out after four years of use but you've inspired me to make my own replacements. I'll use fast set concrete and they will be my inside mould. Any idea if concrete sticks to plastic? Perhaps a bit of vaseline might be good idea? Good clip - thanks!

      I made concrete slabs on top of plastic and it didn't stick and it almost looked like marble. So nice and shiny and you won't have to try to smooth it as much.

    Spray your box with cooking spray ( aka pam ). for a good cheep release

    It look like a good idea but your not realy making anything out of the boxes and your still having to throw away.and do they take boxes for recycling when theve had cement in them? Too much mess and faff.

      I was thinking the exact same thing? Like, before, she was going to recycle them. Great job! But now they're useless and will be in the landfill...doesn't make any sense. Cute tho, but maybe figure out a way to protect the boxes from the concrete so you can actually recycle them AND make a cute thing.

      Just maybe...she bought it, she liked it, and in this video, she actually needed to use it!
      If not, wouldn't she have mentioned the name of it, and the video would've been more geared towards using the box cutter, rather than how to make cement planters, out of used cardboard boxes?🤔🤔🤔
